      Roger did have his own band and was the lead singer, The Cross, check out the album "Mad Bad and Dangerous to know". Roger had a few albums with them, also he had a solo career with several albums. He released a box set called the Lot with most of his stuff on it. He has just previewed a new song called, Gangsters rule the world, check it out.

      @taffyholvenstot8297 5 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Well, to be honest sometimes Freddie struggles with these songs too! sometimes only when he's in the fittest voice and physique can he do the songs, often not In concert.

    • @Motown-1966
      @Motown-1966 5 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      Ta H... That was because of the frequency he was made to sing with stacked concerts. The man did over 700 concerts in his career singing most of their songs live with a few exceptions like "I'm in Love with my Car." He'd developed those pesky vocal nodules from abusing his vocal cords from over use AND smoking. He sounds great during the front leg of concerts and often times sounded really bad (for him) during those last leg of tours.

      Totally! I guess I didn't include ABTD because it's only that small section of the song; while the songs on my list require constant singing on those crazy notes. Throughout the entire song, and not only a small part. But that line you mention has an E5, I think. It's like on of the highest, if not the highest note Freddie sang in his "chest voice". He sounds so so amazing in there. I'd definitely sound like a cat struggling to breathe if trying those. Thanks for the comment, appreciate it :)

Also Spread Your Wings, Save Me and My Fairy King deserve a mention and Under Pressure is definitely a difficult song when you have to do both the Bowie and Freddie parts like when they do it live. This is so interesting to hear what the challenges are from the singer’s point of view. I greatly appreciate Freddie and even more so after watching your video. The idea of writing a song intentionally or not to challenge a singer is not surprising but inspiring. Would you consider doing another video to evaluate how the current singer for Queen handles this very difficult job ? I hope the conversation looks to what he does well and not that he is not worthy compared to Freddie because each performer is unique.

    Queen's songs are the main argument that I would use against anyone saying Freddie couldn't sing the whole song live. He would've fucked up his voice. However, in rare occasions like Live Aid, he didn't have to save his throat and the number of songs was only a 6 (some of which were cut short) and we saw what he could do when he sang his ass off.
    Had Freddie had around only 2 or 3 songs to sing in a show each night, he would've sung the shit out of them.

    • @mori1bund
      @mori1bund 5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      From 1974 on Queen did 50-100 concerts per year, occasionally even two gigs per day - an afternoon concert and an evening concert (!) - which is crazy!
      Freddie Mercury who was extremely self consciously about his teeth didn't fix them because he was too worried that this would even just slightly alter his voice.
      Of course he wouldn't ruin his voice by doing every high note every time live.

    I'm an alto and I'm a girl. I've tried singing a few songs of Queen. For me it's Somebody to love that I find hard. It's got high keys and you need to give it lots of soul. I find Freddie Mercury's voice high and I'M A GIRL. He was just great. I wish he was still alive. I get the feeling he'd be a good voice coach, like on The Voice.
    He was truly a legend!

    Very interesting - enjoyed the video! I'm also a Meat Loaf fan - actually "spoke" a duo with him on stage in "The Storytellers" Tour in my city. I've heard Meat say that when he was cast as Eddie in "The Rocky Horror Picture Show" he was told, "Don't worry if you can't get all the words in for "Hot Patootie." Meat asked why that would be an issue and was told the music was so fast that no one could get all the words in. Meat immediately began singing it with all the words.
    Freddie Mercury & Meat Loaf - Both approximately the same age - both began their careers around the same time. Meat is still performing and, unfortunately, Freddie is gone.

    5:49 - Trope means "a word or expression used in a figurative sense." You're looking for "ballet troupe."
    6:07 - "Pronunciate" is not a thing. It's "pronounce."
    Freddie chose the name Larry Lurex as an insult to glam-rocker Gary Glitter, who he despised. He changed Gary to Larry and chose Lurex as that's the name of a "glittery" metallic yarn and fabric from which a lot of glam-rockers had costumes made.

    I tried "Somebody to Love" and "We Are the Champions" before you brought up your list and, I've got to say, your point about the high notes just absolutely nailed it. I do feel like Somebody to Love is harder because there's a lot of breath control involved, but MAN I REALLY do not like to hear my own recordings or Champions; it sounds VERY unnatural hearing my own voice singing it. (I'm baritone, but not Freddie baritone)

    6. Bohemian Rhapsody (His reasoning)
    5. Somebody to Love (His reasoning)
    4. White Queen (Sometimes the range is tricky)
    3. Spread Your Wings (You must have a very emotional voice and a higher range)
    2. Teo Torriate (The range is so far that you must be able to go low and very high)
    1. The Show Must Go On
    Honorable Mentions: The Prophet's Song, Under Pressure, All Dead All Dead, and My Fairy King.

    Agree with Show must go on. It's a beast. However, the rest of my list would be totally different. Believe I would put The Prophet's Song, Gimme the Prize, It's Late, Sweet Lady and The March of the Black Queen into the mix. Funny you mentioned The Prophet's song being a "studio song". They DID do it live with the same echo effects in the mid section. Mercury normally nailed the solo part, though different from the studio version and adding strange sound effects (ala Get down make love). However his main problem was three similar upward runs : first when he goes "I see no day, I heard him say
    , So grey is the face of every mortal " then with: ,"The earth will shake in two will break And death all around will be your dow'ry" and finally when he belts out "God give you the grace to purge this place And peace all around may be your fortune" . Those sections are just insanely difficult to do full rock voice, and Freddie Mercury normally lowered the thing a whole octave to get it done live :-)
