Thank you so much for showing the detail involved with considering relevant stats in Excel or Google Sheets! I can hardly wait for you to expand on this first video. I was totally stuck on how to incorporate multiple stats to come up with a final spread or total. But after watching your video, I now know to start heading in the right direction. I enjoyed it. unfortunately, I can't find any other of your videos on the subject. take it from someone who's looked for model building tutorials, there are almost NO good free resources out there that are feasible for an excel novice. do you plan on doing a series with step by step building of an actual usable model? more in depth formulas and formatting would help people like me learn!
Great video, I recently became a member because of how great these model videos are! I have gotten everything but the last bit. I’m struggling to find how you got to the number total and the 2nd projected game total. I was wondering if you could help me?
Any videos or resources about adding other stats? I see how I would logistically do it I think (with import HTML, etc) but I guess I don’t follow the math behind it. Like how can you factor pace or turnover rate or something like that into a projected spread/total?
Loved the video would love to see a deeper dive into it. Could potentially turn it into a class. I just created this one and have one for efficiency and compare and go off that. Would be cool to see one to see how individuals playing vs not playing because of injury would affect the outcome.
Hey bro i was just wondering if you could help me. I made the model in this video but i’m trying to extend it to other stats too like pace, rebounds, turnovers, etc. How would i incorporate these other stats into the projected team totals? Any help is appreciated
I think there is something wrong in this model. When looking at the home team for instance in PPG AWAY/HOME, why wouldn't we use the HOME numbers for the home team, instead we use their season average away stats? Same for opponent's away/home for the home team, wouldn't we use how much the team lets up at their home court to opponents?
This was such a dope vid. I say go as deep as you can go with these type vids - the info is priceless and I love watching your take every day. Keep up the awesome work EV and steer clear of the guppies 🐠🤣🤣
Great content 👏 I was really looking for something like this , thank you só much. I just have one question, do the IMPORTHTML funtion , update the statistics automatically everyday in our Sheet, as soon as new data is updated in the website? Keep up the good work 🔥
Yes it does - so whatever that table looks like on the site will be updated automatically. If you ever get #N/A errors, just fo to that "IMPORTHTML" cell and cut/paste it back in and it should refresh
Man, I look forward to your videos and picks every morning. I usually I have my picks already, but it's nice to see what you choose. Today, I liked Cavs. I saw you had them as well, so I took them with over in that game since you chose that at well. And you can never go wrong with the thunder. +7 Need a win today. Thanks
@GuyBostonSports Hey I was wondering if you ever kept track of the "NBA Crazy" model to see how well it did that season? I've been using roughly the same stat lines as 2:23 for this season, but I found that if you calculate heavier weights for the streakier/home teams it becomes a lot more precise at a cost (I'm at 13% ROI/unit on totals, but -8% so far on spreads).
Thanks for the reply@@GuyBostonSports, I'll let you know if I can put it all together. I'm currently in progress of manually inputting historical odds for each individual game to calculate the different model efficiencies. If I could streamline that I would be golden. I was a bit of an excel whiz but I could never put together the sports side of the spreadsheet until I saw this tutorial. Great stuff!
I’m looking to make a build like this. I understand how to get the predicted numbers for each stat (ie. score, rebounds, assist), I’m just having a little trouble bringing it together to help with the overall prediction (ie. spread, ML, O/U). Can you give any advice? I’m not an excel wiz at all. Lol appreciate it.
if i was to add more stats into this to dig deeper, would i just add more tables for the stats i want? how would those stats help get different numbers if it thinks those numbers have the same values as the rest? like say i wanted to add offensive efficiency into this. how would that help me get a better edge when spitting out projected totals and spreads
Hey man these videos deserve a lot more attention. If you could find a way to re-release these or talk about more with your new following, I'm sure you'll see these get a lot more attention. There are more number junkies these days!
Excel is better with large datasets and I notice you're using Google Sheets (Obviously). Would it not be beneficial to use Excel with all the data you're always referencing? Also, is there not more possibilities with Excel as far as functionality & formulas go? Great Vid. Thanks for takin the time!

Great work man! Keep up the spirit. Do you think you'd be able to share your googlesheet file with us? I want to make sure mine is set properly and would love to compare it to yours. If it is not too much to ask! Thanks!
Would you be able to explain why you would go with the away or home team based on the projected spread? Not sure if I completely understand it. So if a team is favored but the proj. Spread shows a positive number, based on the model would you choose the underdog?
Might sound stupid. But when you add stats like Pace and Offensive and Defensive efficiency, how would you have those data points directly factor into the point total or the spread? Is it "if" functions? Do you do like weighted importance of stats or something? Thanks!
Do you have a Model for MLB totals? If not, is it possible you make one? Can you show how one would import the last 5 games played? Is it possible to pick and chose what gets imported and automatic updates daily?
Hoping I can answer your question but what I tend to use is, insert > dropdown > criteria > dropdown (from a range) and then you can insert the range from either one of the datasets team names

Some sites just simply dont import well. However, if you are using a site that you HAVE successfully imported with before, try changing the table number in the import formula from "1" to "0" or vis versa. Sometimes formulas just break and need a refresh, sadly. But the function should be working completely
When you import the data from the home team column, you use (C$2;Data!$B$2:$G$32;6;0). Shouldn't I use 5 instead of 6? Because 5 would be the data column for the home team and not the away team.

Do I believe in positive EV ? Zero doubt BUT on their videos most of their plays are plus 1 to 3 % EV. Your average odds would need to be plus ( underdogs ) with so slim an edge. And their picks dont seem to reflect those average odds. ALSO do they really expect most people to open accounts at 7 to 10 books to shop lines ? Last but not least to justify a 150 to 200 a month fee operating on 2 to 3 % edge you would need to be betting like 40k a month at which point you would be giving them 25% of your profits at 2%. Technically it is just comparing what the projection comes up with for the final score vs what the book makers have the spread set at. Does that help?
