Taking the bus from Siem Reap to Bangkok is an "experience". This was our first overland border crossing, and our first time taking local bus in Cambodia and Thailand. The trip didn't exactly make for a fun day, but looking back it wasn't that bad. If you're looking for a cheap way to get from Siem Reap to Bangkok, and you have time to kill, consider taking the buses.
If want to copy our bus trip from Siem Reap to Bangkok, this blog post from Move to Cambodia will show you exactly how.
    www.movetocambo...
We went with the casino bus option which I would highly recommend. Plus, if you watch our video, hopefully it will make find the casino buses a little bit easier. That was definitely the most challenging part of the journey.

Once again, I really like these travel episodes, when life doesn't give you what you expect. No matter how much you take, no matter how long your day is, you make the best of it and always have a smile at the end. Thank-you! I would rather watch your vlog than a professional travel program because it feels like I actually get to visit these places with you guys!! Y'all are awesome!! God bless you!!

True. Natural beauty and everything so natural - this is why it is so much better than “TV - even reality shows are terrible”. This is what we need to relax. Thanks Kara and Nate.

I loved watching this. I live in Thailand now, in Chiang Mai. Everytime I have gone to Bangkok it is an experience. Some friends and I want to Bangkok a few years ago and we were going to take the sleeper train back but we missed it. We hopped on motorcycle taxis and chanced down our train. I think that was the scariest experience of my life. They went even faster and crazier than the tuk tuks. Sitting on one of those carrying our food container, holding a Thai Ice tea and with my backpack on. I am so surprised I did not die.

I've done this as well, once from Nairobi to Arusha, which is across the border in Tanzania near Mt. Kilimanjaro. The other was by rental car (5 days) from Johannesburg, S. Africa, up to Victoria Falls in Zimbabwe, then to Chobe N.P. in Botswana, and back to Johannesburg through Botswana. Both were interesting experiences, to say the least, and both were solo.

+420yers Club The current plan is to return home in early December. That's a great question! As of now the answer is... we have NO clue! However, I'm a believer that life is made up of chapters. I've always been good at enjoying my current chapter of life. Hopefully this won't be any different. At some point we'll close the travel chapter, be extremely grateful for it, and move on to enjoying the next chapter of life. At least that's the plan in theory. We'll see how it works out in real life.

He had to by sheer determination because he is a responsible person and he knows that one person has to stay awake to be aware of everything.

Will you guys ever choose to live anywhere that you have traveled at? And if you would get jobs and work for a living besides doing youtube? Just wondering if that ever crossed your minds. I don't think you look at these comments anymore but if so thanks for reading this comment. Nate when you said cocaine I had to laugh about that one.

+Maiyo Herero The road between Poipet (just on the Cambodian side of the Thailand/Cambodia border) to Siem Reap took me 7 hours when I went, back in 1998. Now I hear it can be done in 2 1/2 to 3 hours, in theory (only counting when the vehicle is moving though; Kara and Nate had to wait for a lot of delays and transfers). Keep in mind that's not Bangkok to Siem Reap, that's just from the border to there. Bangkok to the Cambodian border probably takes about 3 to 4 hours by bus. In theory Bangkok to Siem Reap would take about 7 hours, not counting transfers, stops, and the time it takes to cross the border each way. 9 to 10 hours is probably more realistic, and as seen in this video, could possibly take as long as 12. But hey, it will only cost you $7 to $15 (depending what buses you take) so if you're on a tight budget and not in a hurry, go for it.
If you can afford a plane ticket, Bangkok to Siem Reap costs between about $89 to $150 each way and takes about an hour (from take off until landing, not door to door, but still that's a lot faster than overland transportation). AirAsia is the cheapest airline that flies this route (keep in mind they fly out of Don Mueang, not Suvarnabhumi, the latter being Bangkok's main airport). As is always the case with travel you have to decide whether you want to spend money to save time, or spend time to save money.

Those bus drivers make deals with the shop owners. They get money to stop at certain stops.

Live, cockroaches…you should not be traveling on these buses. Save money and wait until you have enough to fly or take a private car.
