    I actually have a MIJ Fender Mustang from the mid-90's, and yeah it plays and sounds great! It was my first and only bass for several years, and even now with a couple more in my collection, I still love playing it :)

    I have the Fender JMJ Mustang Bass. Playing it now for a few month it sounds great ... growl and even a certain amount of punch ... and flatwounds rule! Cool vintage fingerstyle, slap and pick sounds! Absolutely worth the higher price than the Squiers!

    I have one, and except for the stock pickup, it's absolutely amazing. Superb and perfectly flat neck, level frets and surprisingly even tone across the fretboard. The only thing I really hated about it was the pickup. Very cheap sounding, but I didn't expect anything else really. Now that it has a Lollar Mustang replacement and La Bella flats, it's one of my most played basses (and it sounds so good on recordings)! Should be noted that I've played other Squier VM Mustangs, and the most common issue I've seen is a dead/muted feeling E string. Don't exactly know why this happens, but I've also had a German made Warwick Corvette with the exact same issue. My Mustang doesn't have this issue though, so there are really good copies out there if you really look for them.

    Played one at GC yesterday that felt very light in contrast to the bass featured here. That skeletor wood must have a range of weights. Great vid.

    Indonesian guitar companies are making beautiful quality guitars for many companies that rival the Mexican Fenders. Great instruments for the price.

    I have one of these in Olympic White and I love it. It was pretty good out of the box - truss rod and intonation were fine but I had to adjust the action to my taste and style. I'm a light, finger style player using flats so I can get it quite low. Talking of flat strings, I've found the Fenders give me a little more twang than the La Bellas. I realise this is heresy as everyone loves them, and I don't dislike them, it's just easier to get my sound using the Fender strings. Overall this is a great bass for the money, and feels a little lighter than my Fender PJ Player series Mustangs. Now I've come to short scale basses I will never go back, although it's taken me over 50 years of playing to realise this.

    Excellent review! Slide up to those notes on Lounge Act. Mute those open strings. Jeez. I bought a Squire Mustang at a guitar show for $150. Took it to the local music shop and they said it was back-bowed as all get out, with a frozen truss rod. They put oil down the truss rod and pronounced it dead. A boat anchor.
    I was going to part it out because someone had previously replaced the pickups with really excellent ones. DH put some graphite down in the truss rod pocket. We pronounced it dead, and I hung it on my wall 'o cheap guitars, and forgot about it for a year or so. After all that time passed, I guess the oil made it's way down the threads and the truss rod loosened up. It's now completely fine.

    just want to say you guys are TRULLY the bass channel, alot of stuffs ive been wanting on bass you guys has truly done it, its really amazing, im only asking once, a VS video between the rickenbacker, gibson SG and Gibson thunderbid, and maybe include a fender bass, video could be what's best for what scenario/sound/tone
    example, for me i always go for
    rick: for overdive
    thunderbird: for that tone
    fender: for that super nice low end
    id like to see your guys choices/takes including the gibson SG bass
    it'll be a great vid

    • @TheBassChannel
      @TheBassChannel  7 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      No - just rewatching a couple minutes to confirm: the opening Nirvana bit was tone all the way up, the Bad Guy line was tone all the way down, and the little pop-punk line i did with fingers and pick was tone all the way up. The way this bass is set up, each knob's line straight up is 100%, and the line at about 2:00 is 0%. Halfway rolled off would have the line at about the 7-8:00 position.
