- Here, I take a look at the cylinder head which the owner of this project sent to me with all the other parts. Some aspects of it are good, others less so, shall we say!
Thanks Paul.
I wonder if the nicks around the chamber edge might be due to contact with a keyed chuck during "porting". I have to admit I've let that happen myself, not paying attention and the burr catches and throws your hand off in a direction you hadn't anticipated.
The porting looks really good but the inlet valve seat looks very skinny compared to the exhaust.
Looks like a car tuning shop took on a motorcycle job.
Likely the knicks were caused by poor packaging when being shipped. The carriers are very rough with stuff and it's easily knackered in transit.
It was very well wrapped for its journey to me, that's for sure.
Is it twin plug or has it been re-positioned
No, it is single plug with a blank in the decompressor hole.
Evidently set up for dual ignition as well. Hadn’t seen that before. Have you used it on any of the race bikes?
That is a hole for a decompressor, which is often adapted to take a second plug. On one occasion while running our twin plugged RE 500 racer on the dyno, I disconnected one plug and we lost around 0.2 bhp and the pwer line on the graph went a tiny bit more ragged, leading me to conclude it is not really worth doing and our championship winning, lap record setting RE 350 racer uses just one plug.
Properly egg bound.
