    IDK why TH-cam recommended this to me, but this is some insane gameplay! I couldn't do that without the barbell! Keep doing what you're doing!

      @@i5lee8bit I'm trying to think back on two possibilities of what I meant here. I got hung up on work/ministry/FNaF projects/joggling until this week. It's either related to various FNaF games+Juggling on a DDR Pad or finishing the 10s while juggling on Extreme. I have both planned.

    Just when I thought that DDR was just fast twitch calves and quads, this guy decides to throw lats, delts, and biceps into the mix!
    I was kinda disappointed that it wasn't a complete OHP but, given the difficulty of play DDR above a certain level no bar, I'd be afraid to play with a barbell over my head. Props for this and giving a meaning of playing with the bar.

    • @i5lee8bit

      @@EbonySaints haha thanks man, and btw I actually HAVE tried full overhead pressing, but there were a few challenges: obviously keeping balance gets REALLY sketchy and one wrong move could end up with some serious back pain lol, but another unexpected (due mainly to my setup) is that the bar will likely hit the screen cam! And of course the proximity to the cable machine... It would suck really bad if it smacked the machine during vertical movement of the barbell 😬
      If I had all the space in the world, I definitely would have the machine away from everything and try more things! But obviously I gotta make due as best I can with the space we have. I'd love to be able to spread my arms all the way out to the sides for static lateral raise DDR, etc. But having 2 small children = half of that basement is covered in toys, aka tripping hazards 🤣
      Btw, I never made a video of it, but I've actually also tried overhead tricep extension during DDR... now THAT was super sketchy! I only tried it once and it was quite ugly, thus no video haha

    I've been playing DDR for over 23 years and I always thought holding the bar the whole time while playing was extremely lame and pathetic...
    ...until I watched this video. Major respect.

    • @i5lee8bit
      @i5lee8bit  3 หลายเดือนก่อน +3

      @@PurpleSanz thanks lol, and yeah my views on the bar have certainly evolved over the years. Coming from an old school perspective like yours, I also don't like the idea of holding the bar for the entire song and every song. Especially for the earlier generations of DDR (like up to Supernova). With the exception of 10 footers, it just always seemed to suck the fun out of the game to go super high speed mod and use the bar just to get a good score on ANYTHING and EVERYTHING, like Butterfly, lol.
      But unfortunately, combined with the addition of Marvelous to regular gameplay, that's how the gameplay itself evolved - go highest speed mod possible (IIDX equivalent of lowering the "green number") and use the bar 100% of the time, in order to maximize not perfect attack but marvelous attack. And I can't blame top DDR players of today either; it's somewhat akin to "wrist / palm scratching" on IIDX, and using really low green number and keeping a highly static hand placement style. It's just sort of how the game itself evolved and ngl the stuff they do these days is pretty insane. It just to me really takes a lot of the old magic and fun out of it when it's held literally 100% of the time 🙁. I myself haven't even ever had a chance to play anything beyond DDR SN2 and I'm really not dying to either tbh. I miss the days of walking around anywhere and there's a DDR machine haha.
      Anyway always glad to see a fellow old school player. Remember when we used to all call it something that rhymes with "bar graping"? 🤣

    • @PurpleSanz
      @PurpleSanz 3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@i5lee8bit Wow! I've never heard of that term before, probably because english is not my main language, but I did some research about it and yes, it makes perfect sense and I totally agree, lol! In spanish, we used to just say something like: "you are NOTHING without the bar".
      I guess I was lucky. And by "lucky", I mean the first DDR cab I played was DDR Solo 2000 (no bar, non raised platform edition), so we never had that bar argument back then. Afterwards, we got a DDR 3rd Mix Korea Ver. 2 and then a DDR 4th Mix, and I never saw people doing that bar thing either. Once we got DDR MAX2 and EXTREME, yes, I started seeing some people doing it, but I still saw a lot of people beating MAX 300, MaxX Unlimited and even The Legend Of Max without using the bar, that made me really happy and proud.
      I remember about this particular girl who was kind of praised because she could beat many difficult songs, including boss songs, but then we were all invited to a party, where they had a DDR machine without bars, and that's where we all saw her fail miserably, song after song, even she was shocked, all because her precious bar wasn't there. It was then that we realized how truly pathetic it was, and I will never understand people who claim that holding the bar makes no difference, because it does, it truly does.
      I'm 41 years old now, I got a pair of arcade pads back in 2007 when our local arcade shut down, and we still play at my place every weekend. My buddies already have kids of their own and they bring them here to enjoy DDR just like the old days, and we all still use the bar for a very clear purpose: to lean against and rest a little bit AFTER a song. I'm gonna show them your video, I'm sure they will all love it.

    @Isaac lee you are so Built man may I ask what 3 muscle exercises help the most with your legs and playing DDR In your opinion?

    • @i5lee8bit
      @i5lee8bit  9 หลายเดือนก่อน +6

      Hey man, sorry it took me so long to get back to you. I tried like a week ago but YT crashed in the middle of it and I just never got back to it.. crazy season of life as it is, ya know? Haha, anyway thanks for the compliment man. Answer (imo) to your question isn't quite as straightforward as I'd hope unfortunately!
      So a lot to your question (again, imo) depends on playstyle, i.e. bar or no bar. If you mainly use the bar, I'm not sure focusing on strengthening legs will do all that much to help. It's more of a balance of arm stamina plus the usual cardio (including legs I suppose) stamina. Seeing as how I'm almost exclusively a no-bar player (except when playing 10's), and of course do my weighted challenges and stuff, there's much more nuance to leg strengthening to play better compared to if I were using the bar. The other factor of playstyle would be whether you play flat-footed (heel/toe) or do the tip-toe thing. Most people do flat footed these days, and there's much more on your quads than your calves.
      Overall, squats in general are a great exercise for overall health and strength conditioning! In general just a fantastic and beneficial exercise. Unless you're trying to build muscle and get jacked, you really don't even need to do weighted squats just for helping with playing DDR. In fact, I think there's a point where gaining more muscle might make DDR harder, since you'll add more weight = less stamina to an extent. Of course I'm talking about when you get into the realm of bodybuilding and stuff. For example, I'm 6'3" and 240 lbs. DDR would be WAAAAY easier for me if I slimmed down and lost 60-80 lbs - but that just isn't within my fitness goals, and I like maintaining my strength levels 🙂. But anyway, squats (and research proper form and technique) can certainly help.
      Besides that - and again, being a no-bar player, I find it beneficial to just play DDR with added weights. You could even try ankle weights (I personally never tried) or using a weight vest. Most likely if you play that way for a while, you'll find it much easier after you drop back to normal weight.
      I guess calf raises could help, but again, unless you're playing tip toe style, I doubt it'll help THAT much.
      I say squats and deadlifts (not even at very high weights) could be beneficial in building leg strength (and core strength) and helping with DDR - but these 2 exercises are such powerful compound exercises to begin with, I think they're great to do regardless of whether you're trying to improve at DDR or not!
      Sorry if I didn't really directly answer your question. I actually really never gave it any thought before, haha, and I feel like my answer just ended up being very general fitness advice (though still, any gym guy would tell you how important squats and deadlifts are!)

      Um, there’s not that many for legs. Leg extensions, curls. Squats, leg press, lunges, abductors, calves raises.
      Most excellent ddr players skinny legs. The more muscle, the more oxygen they need thus breathing more. It’s more cardio and muscle memory.

      @@honesteagle98 he asked for THREE leg exercises. My situation is much different than the average DDR player's. I gave him advice based on the bigger picture while also considering DDR and also based on play style. I'd rather give a detailed helpful explanation than what could potentially be harmful advice.
      I do fully agree with the last part you said. But that also shows why my response would have made NO SENSE without the additional details. I like being good at DDR no bar. I do NOT want skinny legs or a skinny build. I like what I'm physically capable of, especially with raising 2 children. So imma keep doing what I do. Thanks for watching anyway.
