  • As some of you will have seen across the channel, my love for salmon is huge and we have had a few on the bank and on the line! However, personally i think salmon fishing is at a real low and thats because the number of salmon left is so low. Thats because of a variety of factors mind due, trawlers, hydro electricity, salmon farms, so much more! In this video i highlight on some of the issues and also talk about the damage that dams and hydroelectricity can do to this magical species. Salmon and Salmon fishing is a past time around the world and a gift that just keeps giving, we need to do everything we can to save them! I want to catch Salmon in the years to come but if we don't act now there won't be any salmon left!
    I wasn't going to post this video, but I felt i needed too. Salmon fishing is where i gained my love for fishing and having one of these magical fish is beyond special. And what you're about to see is just as special as having a Salmon on the hook!
    Enjoy folks.... and if you have hit that subsribe button :D

    Its all true and great you call all of this out. Unfortunately I've reached the point where I suspect the vast amount of the human population just doesnt care or perhaps more accurately they prioritise differently from us. The 1950's hydro developments in Scotland brought electricity to the population but changed the landscape for ever. Fish farms feed society and trade deals are done to support economies even though everyone knows they destroy wild fish populations. We dont control predators because no one can see the fish but birds and seals are cute. We cast mile long nets at sea and scoop up everything without much care as it feeds society and adds to the economy. It pains me to say it but the only people who care about Salmon are fishers. Hoping someday I'm proven wrong...

      Couldn’t disagree with anything you’ve said there mate and put so eloquently as well. It’s awful to be truthful and wonder what will happen to make this change? Probably nothing and we will just start making fish from stem cell research or something - it’s pretty tragic :(

      Right on bro .hydro electric schemes ruined the salmon runs of the Erne and shannon .Here in Ireland .both rivers were renowned for big multi years at sea Salmon .all gone .The Salmon have all but disappeared from the Erne .The shannon still gets plenty of Salmon still but the multi years at sea fish are gone ..Keep on enlightening us young man .and bendy rods

    From someone who has never fished fresh water and never caught a salmon in the sea this is a powerful message. I have bought salmon from time to time but that will not be happening again. Thanks Harry for bringing this to the attention of so many. Keep bloody fishing and see you back over here soon🤷🏽‍♂

    As an ex bailiff , I'd be worried about that fish ladder , smacks of poachers to me , knock the fish ladder out then net that weir pool at night .
    In all my years angling , I couldn't , and still can't bring myself to fish for Salmon . Toff have been bleating about salmon stocks for years .
    OK , here's a thing , the fish is on its way up river to spawn and make more fish right ? - so what do you do ? -you ambush it , kill it and eat it before it spawns - see where part of the problem might lie there ? .
    Thames water is apparently going bust , most of the privatised water companies are puking raw sewage into rivers - seems they are now trying to blame the Victorians , abstraction and sewage dumping has killed a lot of fishing because shareholders and bonuses are king .
    I hope somebody sorts that fish ladder out . Try contacting Paul Gaskell , he has angling contacts in Japan - think his channel is Fishing Discoveries , anything's worth a try to give those magnificent fish a hand . Agree with all you said .

      Well said and different aspect I’d never considered especially concerning fishing for salmon! Some of the dams here in Japan are for disaster prevention which I get but don’t all at the same time 🤣 it’s a poo show but in the UK I would say some very sceptical practises are going on in our water and sewage companies and the sad thing is they are allowed to get away with it!! 😢 pockets heavier yet no guilt or conscience! Ironically I bet a lot of them fish as well 😂

    Excellent Topic well presented I fished for Sea Trout on the river Nith in the 1960s same predicament for the sea trout numbers in the 1960s average 5000 in the last five years average returns only in the hundreds Shameful and Sad

      Sea trout are one that really doesn’t get talked about and I think it’s because we really don’t understand them and there habits, my old man was a sea trout fanatic and I’m glad he isn’t round to see it’s current state, as mad as that sounds haha!!

    Thanks for being so passionate Harry and 100%! However I must say in my half century of being on this planet. Your small voice will not doesn't mean anything. Now more than ever humans are the most selfish, disgusting and vile animals on the planet. I've always been an outdoor person, whether, fishing, walking or photography but these last few years I've never seen such destruction and selfishness out there. 99% will do anything and care about nothing as long as they get what they want and it's never going to stop until Mother Nature decides enough is enough and takes the planet back..for me..the sooner the better.. Thanks a mill for caring thought Harry and much respect!

    It is sad state when we all know that wild salmon numbers are the worst they’ve ever been. Not a legacy we should be leaving. The river Lune here where I live is a perfect example of how a river shouldn’t be, overly polluted with farm waste/fertiliser run off and barely any fish. No one even bothers fishing the lower stretches anymore. 👎🏻

      The eden in Cumbria is exactly the same open sewer bottom end used to be the best salmon fishing a one time enough for the netters and rod men

    • @japanesefishingadventures
      @japanesefishingadventures  ปีที่แล้ว

      Sewage pollution and agricultural pollution are massive problems and huge the fertilisers and chemicals we have in our lives are just deoxygenating every river from the UK to Tokyo haha and no one seems to care!!!

      Haha you’re totally right and that’s the bottom line answer to all the problems! Thank you btw. I was proper rambling but I really don’t care, what man has done to salmon across the world is heartbreaking and they are such a robust amazing species we can save them with very little effort yet all around the world we just meddle and screw it up !! 😢 I try and stay very impartial and positive when it comes to fishing but what’s happened to salmon is one of mankind’s biggest mistakes! Thank you so much for watching!

    • @japanesefishingadventures
      @japanesefishingadventures  ปีที่แล้ว

      It’s a funny one isn’t it! Recreational fishing is far from the problem as fish go back (on the whole!) and salmon anglers look after fish but dams and weirs are a killer, it stalls their route meaning easy prey for cormorants/otters it’s a very frustrating situation 😢😢

      @@japanesefishingadventures yeah I mean everyone including vessels, either eat stocked or don't eat atall , just for a period to let them recover but first pollution and many other issues need sorting, in edinburgh because of old mines part of my local river is literally Iron Red for miles on end, no life atall, and only mile or 2 from sea , not good , never caught or had bite there either
