    Wow! You said something I've always said... and when I say it, people just look at me like I have a hole in my head. Like they have no idea what I mean. But I totally get you when you said the ocean is like a desert! That is so right. That's exactly what it feels like after you're on it for a few hours or a few days. A desert of water.
    Loved your ambient sound and sights footage. That was awesome! I could watch just that for hours. That really gives you the feel of being on the boat.

    • @Bowmans-Woods
      @Bowmans-Woods  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks. If you feel that way after a few hours imagine 7 days of it, or 12 days in the next 2 passages? I guess that’s why sailors seem so excited when they see land and yell “Land Ho!” You get use to having a variety of things to focus on in real life. Then you do a crossing and you start to miss looking at the most simple things, like a bird or a tree.
      Many people seem to like the ambient sounds video segment. One viewer suggested I do one episode after the voyage is over of just one extended episode of just ambient sounds of the voyage. Then people could just turn that on and leave it running while they do other things around their tv. I just might do that.

    Absolutely loving this passage series! Loving the great camera and drone work as well. And your little aside about the ocean being like a desert felt very poetic and romantic.

    Simple rule of thumb with any spinnaker type sail . Every rope goes around the outside of any standing structure or standing rigging

      Ya. The blocks were directly under the seats, so that was hard. We eventually moved the blocks and got it working perfectly.

    So when you changed from 4 lines to two (@ the forward lower corners or clews) were you guys running essentially the 2 downhaul control lines or just two sheets? You said earlier in the video that it was decided to eliminate the downhaul lines & just run sheets but then later in the video when there's just two lines (yellow) it appeared to be the downhauls that were attached to the clews as the lines looked to be running through the forward blocks at the bow. Can you clarify? Thanks. On another note, the after sale service and support to the owners is nothing short of amazing. To my knowledge, no other boat manufacturer comes even close to Equisite in owner support. They certainly deserve all the acknowledgement & kudos you can give them! Everything else being equal, it's a very good & persuading reason to buy their vessels. A double thumbs up to you & Exquisite!

    • @Bowmans-Woods
      @Bowmans-Woods  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks. One line went through a block on the cross beam that sort of acts like a down haul and one went through a block about midship on the other side. We switched it when we needed to gybe. Hope that explains it.

    Craig....couple of suggestions. As a former sailor I would like to see the instruments occasionally. Also, don’t know what time of day or night you determine progress in last 24 hours but I think a lot of us would like to see how far you go each cycle, progress to date and distance to go. Hopefully you had your drone with you at St Helena. BTW, why is it named St Helena? Thanks for the great videos.

    • @Bowmans-Woods
      @Bowmans-Woods  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hey Scott. I do show the helm in this episode. I mention the wind speed and the boat speed. You you see the screen you can see the wind speeds and boat speed without me needing to read it out to the viewer all the time. I can't just keep giving wind and boats speeds numerous times every episode the bulk of the viewers that are casual sailor that wants to see a sailing story will get bored. This is not a technical specs series for the X5. I did the tour of the factory and the detailed tour of the boat. That will have to suffice for those interested getting into the details of the boat. Hope you understand. As for the drone question? Im guessing you didn't watch to the end of the episode. I do a drone flight of the port area and the town.

    Hey Craig, as always great video! I noticed that while below, especially in your cabin/state room, there are consistent squeaking noises from the floorboard and/or furniture. That surprises me a little. I have sailed on newer high-end (>$1M) mono-hulls (Oyster, Discovery, Hylas) and rarely heard that kind of consistent squeaking. Any thoughts? Thx!

    • @Bowmans-Woods
      @Bowmans-Woods  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thanks. The boat was pretty squeak free considering the constant waves but yes, I did have a squeak coming from the cabinet near my bed. I always sleep with gel earbuds in anyway, since I am a light sleeper, so it never bothered me.

    • @Bowmans-Woods
      @Bowmans-Woods  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks Miodrag. The X5 performs well for a Cruising Catamaran. It is not a speedy performance Cat but that's not the market they are going after. They want the liveaboard cruising market that is all about comfort. A heavier boat has a more comfortable ride.

    • @Bowmans-Woods

      They were both comfortable. It was hard to compare because the Discovery was sailed in really light winds. For much of this sailing trip we had heavy winds so we bounced around a lot more in this trip. If you mean which boat would I prefer living on ? The Xquisite wins in my books.

    • @Bowmans-Woods
      @Bowmans-Woods  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      What? We thought it made the boat look pretty. You don't agree? Ha Ha. Actually it was there to block the light coming out of the compass. There was no switch to turn of the illuminated compass so it ruined our night vision. If I owned the boat I would disconnect the wire to the light. You can always shine a red light on the compass if you really need to see it at night. So we did the next best thing and covered it with tinfoil. It did the trick. :-)

    • @Chris-zo5ze
      @Chris-zo5ze 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I'm sure the next boat off yhe production line will have a dimmer / selectable red back light. The service on this boat seems amazing. I'm sure they weren't happy seeing that foil over the compass.

    It's worth noting that Parasailor state right on their web site that the sail can be used with either 2 or 4 control lines: "Note - The Parasailor can be flown with either 2 or 4 control lines. In this walk-through guide 4 control lines are used, as they offer the most flexibility and provide the greatest control of the sail. To discuss alternative ways of handling your Parasailor then please contact us." www.parasailor.co.uk/how-to-use-your-parasailor.html
    One of the cool aspects of this sail is how it generates lift at the bow. This changes the moment of the boat under power and dramatically reduces the chance of broaching on a monohull.

    • @Bowmans-Woods
      @Bowmans-Woods  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yes. We figured that out. The training video we saw showed 4. The boat sailed way more comfortably with the parasail up. 😁👍

    • @TraneFrancks
      @TraneFrancks 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@Bowmans-Woods I think the lift aspect of the sail is a huge factor in choosing a Parasail / Parasailor over a standard spinnaker. It's definitely on my must-have list for downwind sailing.
