I am an American who came home from Viet Nam 100% disabled (Army Airborne Infantry)....am typing this because I fought alongside ANZACs and came to admire Aussies and Kiwis greatly, for WWI, WW2, and Viet Nam...terrific soldiers and brothers-in-arms!...with my deepest respect to all those
    from ANZAC lands.

So moved by this rendition of I was Only 19. I joined the Army when I was only 18 and heard this song then for the first time. After feeling I didn't live up to the ANZAC legend during my Operational Service in Iraq 12 years ago, I distanced myself from anything to do with ANZAC Day and Remembrance Day. Now I have processed the anger, trauma and stress of my time abroad, I listen to songs like this, read poetry and attend services in honour of our fallen men and women and instead of shame, I now feel nothing but pride. Thank you.

I was only 7 when my Uncle was called in 1969 ... the doll he bought home seemed so nice. a colourful gift for a kid in rural Australia.
Then I grew up and understood or tried to understand what had happened to the Sons of a whole generation.
In my heart I was always proud of our Nam Vets I knew no different... and as luck had it, by the time I grew up and had my own babies Australia had grown too and put aside the BS and nonsense that these Heroes suffered in the media, by our own people.
So many men and women for 100 yrs have paid with blood, sweat and tears, the families of our Soldiers pay that price too... No Veterans had to wait so long to be recognised when they returned as did the soldiers who served in Vietnam. A shame we will wear for a long time.
I sleep sound in my bed every night because of every single ANZAC and Allied Forces Hero past and present who has fought and fights for that security.
    Freedom is NOT free!
I have cried each and every time I hear this song since 1983-84 and I did again...
Grateful to ALL Vietnam Veterans .... God Bless you all.

I am a current serving member of the RAAF and my father also served in Vietnam. Everytime I have looked at this song tears have come to my eyes. The song reminds me of what my father went through and gives me a greater appreciation of his efforts on Australia's behalf. Every ANZAC day has been difficult for him for what he did. Love you Dad🇦🇺🇦🇺🇦🇺🇦🇺🇦🇺

Shared on Facebook, Twitter and Google+. The best version ever. Every time I hear this song it grabs 100% of my attention. The lyrics are powerful, emotional, descriptive and tells a story that only a select few have/will experience. Lest We Forget.

      +whosJoshie?
We all do what we can
To make the world a better place
      Some fight for our safety
Some take children to school in the morning
      Others clean the sewers
      A few fly commercial jets
And if we all work together
From before dawn 'till after dark
      Putting our backs into it
And our lives on the line
We'll make the world a better place
Achieving together what we could not alone.

Welcome home to all Vietnam vets.
What you went through would break a lesser soul.
My husband did three tours in Vietnam and they took their toll on his body and spirit. For lost mates and shattered dreams. But he served with honor and was honor bound to serve. That's just the way he was every day of his life until God called him Home.
Your sacrifice was not in vain. You answered a call and shame on those who failed to honor their promises to you -- To care for your broken bodies and spirits.
    Welcome home and thank you.
