    If we study how a lens actually works, this method is actually effective. In addition, adding a UV filter will also help eliminate chromatic abbreviation. Well done!

      What does the UV filter do for the aberration? I read that it was for analogue film and now use UV for protection. But I've noticed mainly that it reduces image quality. If you have bright lights shining in the filter (like headlights of a car) you see extra small flares and reflection on the filter.

      I just got one of these lenses last week: waiting for an adapter ring to match my a7iii.
      I'll try this.
      I tried my 30 year old Minolta 135mm zoom on the Sony but the fringing disappointed me. I don't recall seeing fringing back when it was on a film Minolta. Hmm.
      For these 800mm jobs someone lined the depth of the tube with flat black material saying it reduced stray flares. Don't line it so deep that it jams the sliding, twisting joints. FYI.

    This video needs waaaaaay more visibility. I tried it out and you were 100% right, these cheap super-telephoto are usable as long as you create an aperture mask, tripod mount, and use a remote/delayed shutter. My shutter speeds are a bit slower now because of the reduced light, but the clarity is much better and the chromatic aberration is basically all gone! I did it using a $65 Ultramaxx brand one from amazon.

    I thought this was a joke at first, so I applied the idea to my Centon 500mm Mirror lens, which BTW are know to have soft images and prone to CA. The results, although not totally removing CA from high contrast subjects, the CA and sharpness were improved 100% All I did was get a 72-58mm step down ring. 😊

  • @tomghzel
    @tomghzel ปีที่แล้ว +18

    I'm just thinking about buying a stepdown ring from 62 mm to 58, 52 or 49. That would probably be an easy and clean solution.

    Amazing way to address chormatic aberratic. I supposed, playing with the hole diameter, it could improve chromatic aberration at fixed focal lengths (400 - 800mm).

    It's so crazy. One of the biggest problems with these cheap lenses is the chromatic abberation, and now it seems like the only thing you can change. But removing it makes the quality several times better, and if you're not a pixel peeper or don't care about the quality being perfect, this looks like the best lens now.

    That is really sharp, i haven't seen anything close to this in other reviews. Great stuff!
    What is the inner circle diameter?
    Also, is that a UV filter to hold the paper cutout or just plain glass filter?
    Thanks a lot! Will be trying this myself as soon as my lens arrive

      Thank you for watching... my ring has 25mm inner circle diameter and stopped down the lens +/- - f 1,5. There is also a mathematical formula for this - but I did it "by feel". it's a neutral filter to hold the ring.

      Hi lucky haider
      thank you for watching! No, I do not use a special filter, the images and videos are not edited .they are published here as they come out of the camera(JPEG). on my computer they are even better because TH-cam compresses the data. I just use a clear filter to hold the ring. The rooster for example was shot on 2000 ISO,1/250sec and Tripod.Photographing the moon or buildings 100 miles away are bad examples because the distance is difficult to do even with expensive lenses.

      @ziachschorsch1743  ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Hi Francisco
      Unfortunately, I am not a scientist,but you can see it with older lenses,if you stop them down,the image quality improves. This lens is very simply designed,but has a fixed aperture,the quality can be improved with this simple trick. The effect is a little bit on sharpness and contrast but more on CA.
      best regards
