That was brave indeed. Swans are no joke.
Really? Can they actually hurt people? Or do they just hiss and charge like ducks and geese? Serious question, I'm not being funny. I just assumed they chased people angrily and kept charging. I've seen videos of them chase people, but never saw them hurt anyone. I just assumed they had a lot of heart but couldn't actually hurt people.
@@HoneeyBee3 A swan won't seriously injure an adult, but they have been known to knock people down and then proceed to bash them repeatedly. People have gotten broken bones and concussions from swan attacks. Like most animals, though, they're inclined to avoid humans if at all possible, so the number of those incidents is rather low.

@@HoneeyBee3 I've read they are capable of breaking your back. I also remember reading several years ago of a swan drowning a dog who got too close to the nest. They might be pretty, but they can kick ass and take names 😬

It's beautiful how the father quickly settles down onto the water once he knew his baby was safe. Such majestic creatures. Indeed, a heroic deed from Frode!
Its reaction at 1:08 tells us that it does not have a single clue if its offspring is safe or not with the human. It "settled" simply because it accepted the fact that a predator took his offspring and that's it. No need to romanticize nature.
@@user-fx9rw7xc1e That's the worst part about nature and animal videos is people who over humanize wild animals. Projecting human emotions and thoughts onto them when in reality they can't even comprehend 99 percent of the things we can.

@@AnthonyFurnival you're right to point out that the male swan was not 100% settled, as being a father and protector of his family, he still needs to be wary of his brood's safety since the human is still within its vicinity. However, as compared to his previous agitated state, the male swan has obviously toned down his aggressiveness.
Unlike humans suffering from cptsd, animals in the wild have finely tuned autonomic nervous systems that can perceive threat within its' environment. This enables them to gear itself up for fight/ flight or freeze. But once danger has receded, animals can regulate themselves back to normal pretty quickly, unlike victims of trauma.
People are so irresponsible! Thank you for saving the little one. You are a hero! 😘

Probably not the entire human race, but it's definetly more than just a few.
I have dogs, so obviously we're outside a lot. Not in parks in citys, but in the fields and in the woods. The amount of trash out there is unbelievable!
Everything you can and can't imagine. We even found a fridge once. A f'n refridgerator in the middle of the woods! I still wonder how they got that thing out there.

@@Elijah8890 When did I say "all"? And it is the PEOPLE who are irresponsible, not the animals. Millions of wild animals, like birds and ocean creatures, even cats and dogs get cought in fishing nets and hooks every year. It's a terrible way to die.

Swans may be the most majestic animals, but that doesn't mean they're not defensive...or fragile. You did the right thing helping the cygnet, and I'm sure the parents will understand.
That swan is a good dad. He even settled down when he realized his cygnet was safe and free.
Good on you Frode for rescuing wildlife and also drawing attention to how irresponsible carelessness can lead to pain and tragedy when trash is carelessly introduced into a pristine natural environment.
I'd like to give those lovely ducks a mention too. The way they crowded around seeming concerned about the cygnet's distress before the rescue and also swam back around the swan family to check on the freed baby after the rescue.
this happened to me years ago, when we lived on a lake, two Swan parents and their baby who had its leg mutilated by a snapping turtle was up on our beach, I had to get the baby to rush it to the ER vet, and the poor parents were just so desperately trying to fight me off. They ended up not being able to save the baby, I cried for weeks... The parents sat outside my house for months just waiting for it to come back. It was the worst thing ever.

We had swans breed right on the (busy) bicycle path in front of our house for a few years. Mum always hissed and scared the sh*t out of all cyclists. But in reality she was very sweet, didn't do anything at all, we could even approach the babies. But I've heard they can break your bones.
I love how protective they are. They are very big and powerful birds close up. Don't fuck with swans.
I just went down to the lake today and found fishing line in a tree and cut it all out so nothing would get stuck in it...found three lures for my good deed..now it's was even more important...thank you for helping baby swan...

Honestly, nail clippers should be in your pocket at all times, they are great for helping all kinds of animals with string but particularly birds and they can get close up to the skin unlike scissors

That is so so brave. You heard the baby screaming? The line must have felt like cutting its food off every time it tried to take a step to turn and join the family.
And the screaming stopped the second she losened that fishing line. The pain and panic was gone. That cute little swan baby was so fluffy❤
I'm amazed the swan didn't attack him considering how aggressive they can be. He risked serious injury by helping but glad it all worked out for everyone involved.
What serious injury? The reason it didn’t attack him is because they can’t. They flap their wings to intimidate and can give you a little peck. That’s as much as they can do though 😂. Do your research my friend.

i am constantly finding fishing line at a pond i go to. along with lures that look like frogs, which could end up in the unsuspecting gullet of a hungry heron. makes me angry, the carelessness/thoughtlessness. thanks for helping, and spreading the message to pick up trash, most esp trash that can and does harm wildlife.

I used to fish and my grandpa taught me to never leave trash or anything behind. We brought trash bags and dumped them at the dump after fishing. It was part of the trip when we went fishing and camping. Even a fire needs to be taken care of properly to keep the earth clean and safe. We are part of the animal kingdom too and we are responsible for any damages we cause. We are the only animals that hurt the plant causing climate change to speed up and now we are suffering for it. The Earth is changing and massive deaths are happening. People need to work harder to help the earth. I am very proud of people who do help. ❤

That was a pretty calm swan, all things considered. Can be pretty aggressive.
So many water birds seem to get tangled up in fishing line it's a shame. Glad the cygnet got help before it was too tight.
