Dude, I SO appreciate you! Just wanted to say 1) I watched every second of this video; 2) it IS a tremolo and 3) you were born in 1989 - the year I graduated high school and you're down with Doug Aldrich and, one of the most underrated hard rock bands of all time, Hurricane! I LOVE that! Keep rocking and PLEASE keep making these terrific videos!
I love watching you because you are clearly super humble, and you are a great teacher. You have really helped my playing with all your videos and I love seeing your collection. I know you wont but if you wanted to show off it would be well deserved! Thank you Robert (p.s. love that hair)
My 1st electric was a Danelectro, the toilex on the side, the lipstick pups, & mine came with the small amp inside the case! How cool was that? My Mom purchased it from a music store here in our town (not the one I would have picked, but hey) & paid $35 for it, case & all. Course I 'think' she bought some lessons at the same time. Find a 60's one for that now brother! All I wanted to do is play my Led Zepp 3 album, & pick out peices and learn em! My Mom on the other hand thought this was all NOISE! So that didn't last long....she got her $35 back, & that was that, until I saved up to get my own; then she was stuck with me playing loud noises!
I have a '75 LP Custom that is also Tobacco Burst, and the guitar is exactly as you say: it's basically everything "undesirable" about 70's Gibsons... but it sounds, plays, feels so frickin' good. It's easily my favorite of my guitars.
I love the way 12 string electrics sound, I just never owned one because of the tuning issues! Others may not have this problem, but I sure do! I just can't keep em in tune! I had an old - old Gibson 12 string acoustic, that I really loved, I just removed the extra strings.
I really hope you appreciate your wife for walking beside and supporting you. Thank you for the videos and the time you put in. I'm 58 and consider myself an accomplished guitarist but always willing to learn more so planning on enrolling in your course to get me through the winter months here in Indiana! "all aboard the rock-n-roll train when you plug this thing in"...hahah.. that's what i love about rob, his little phrases he slips in whilst dispensing his knowledge and talent to us... lots of good guitarist youtubers out there but robert baker's easy going personality shines through
I did a "Nashville Tele," type wiring on one of my Strats. I swapped the 5 way switch for a 4: neck- neck & bridge- bridge- Neck & bridge in series. I wired a master tone and replaced the second for a blender for the middle pickup. It goes mid p/u to blender, and blender directly out to the Jack. So it doesn't run through switching/volume or tone. So I can blend it with the neck or bridge, it has more output and top end and doesn't have to rely on how the other pickups are doing. The only drawback is if you use the middle pickup on its own, you won't be able to do it.
Great vid Robert, you have such a good attitude towards people, I am a older player and have never got that good but still love the learning videos. I stopped playing several years ago so as to unlearn a lot bad crap I picked up. Hope when I get back to it I will have a different sound.
I used to be that one thought the gear made the player. I have many guitars and had to finally realize that the gear is only as good as the player. That's why I follow your channel in hopes of becoming a better player regardless of the gear I have. Not ready to get rid of my gear, just wanting to put it all to better use and knowing what to use it for. Thanks for all your teachings Robert!!!! Much Love and Respect!!
I ended up getting a Les Paul from 1979. Turns out it is also a Kalamazoo with one piece back and two piece top, maple neck. Weighs 11 lbs, but not a deal breaker for me. I came back to this video after I got it because I thought yours had similar specs. These are truly sleepers with incredible tone.
Just got a prs ce 24 last week and I honestly can't believe how good it is. Can't spot a single flaw with the build quality, plays great sounds great and looks great as well.
I'm a singer songwriter and I have been searching for different sounds for my my own music and we are really close in the sounds I'm looking for!!! I'm in the same boat as you with the jazz master sounds!! Also a new subscriber. Have a blessed day!!
I also have a Friedman Cali and once I tuned down half a step it suddenly became the best Floyd guitar I had ever played! Friedman pickups are so good!
Pretty cool of you to share all the guitars and I can totally relate to having unique tones. Why would anyone want multiple guitars that sounds pretty much the same. The tone and the feel of the neck is sells me on any guitar
I haven’t seen any one say this so I’ll say it. The part in the vid where Robert doesn’t know what the push pull does on that one guitar. He was on the neck pickup and pulled it out played and pushed it in an played and it didn’t sound different. I think he has to be on the bridge pickup for it to do anything. Take the humbucker to split single coil. I think he knows this but was just over looking it.
It IS a tremolo arm, because it’s on a Fender Strat and Leo Fender called his Strat bridges “tremolos”, even though it’s the wrong terminology musically. Some people say that Leo named this wrong (and the “vibrato” effect in his amps, which is really tremolo of course) on purpose, which may be true, as people are still talking about it more than 60 years later and still giving his products free publicity (which they don’t really need now, but certainly did when he was starting out). 😜
No Robert, you're not boring. You're quite talented, and without someone talented such as yourself to make them sing they are nothing but wood and wire.
No one should step on someone's dreams. I someday I can sit in my chair and kick up my feet an say this are mine. Keep going! You can never have enough. 💖🎸✌
What a great opening Jam. I love slide it adds so much to a tune. Let your inner Lynyrd Skynyrd out. You can keep them all I will take the vintage Esquire.
I expected him to have more. and here I thought i didn't have G.A.S. cause Robert baker, guitar max, darrel braun, phil Mcknight etc all had more than me. I try to limit myself to one of each type, but I have 40 and counting. But 5 are extra LPs and 2 are extra teles. All the rest are unique. 6,7,8,12, and 20 strings. regular and multiscale, acoustic, hollow, semi hollow, and solid body. headstock and nohead. fender and gibson scale lengths - and a PRS of course. all types of bridges and pickups. I think i have most of the bases covered now, except for body shapes and finishes.
I had a CE24 that I bought new, sometime around '97-'98. I liked it' okay. I had two main issues with it. For my relatively small hands, even the wide-thin neck was wider than I preferred. The other issue, and my main complaint was that 5-way rotary switch. Drove me nuts. It was only a few years later that the mod to replace the switch with a 3-way toggle + push-pull pot was becoming widespread. By then, I had already offloaded it. Back then, they were still doing the set-in knobs which was such a better look. I'm thankful that I still have my 2000 Singlecut. Amazing guitar (beautiful quilt top too).
I bought a Tobacco burst 77 les Paul custom in either 85 to 86. Beautiful guitar. Think it was my second or third guitar in life. It was $600 used obviously. I’m not a strat guy as a player but I love the red super strat. The emg retro sound like monsters very cool sound.
Great video..fantastic collection..thank you for the Vola Oz review..local guitar shop has one for $800 ..seriously thinking about pulling the trigger on it..again very cool video..keep rocking homey😎🤘❤️🎸
Wooooh, the big vid we have been waiting for. All of the gitfiddles!
That funky tune you played on the baritone was badass! Wow.
I really love that Acacia. I think it's my fav of all your goodies. But maybe it's the blend of instrument and pickups.
Great video, many lovely sounding guitars. Especially i just love that neck tone from the Pearly Gates in your Gibson Les Paul 😃
Hahahaha lol that: “don’t show my wife” is very funny
I love the Vola...but my heart will always love that crackle charvel!!!!
That Les Paul Custom is the one. I dig that finish
That strat is one of the most beautiful guitars I've ever seen
I learned just this year, that the guitar I've owned for 25 years, (my first electric), had coil splitting. I had a similar moment to 46:10! #mightyfine
Thanks for the video Robert. It was cool to see all of your guitars. The intro was great.
2:59 King in the castle?!
King in the castle... hmmm... I have a chair, I have a chair... hmmm... go do this, go do this... hmmm...
Cool collection! Those teles kill! All of them, including the Friedman!
You keep mentioning the Friedman tele and saying you don't know if we've seen it while it's hanging in the back. Giggle from me each time
I know right lol. While I was editing I was like IT"S RIGHT THERE!
Robert, do you keep your guitars clean?? Everyone I've seen, they seem nice and extra polished.. I wipe mine down after each one I play, but that's just me.
"I'm not bagging on EMG at all ...I just don't like any of their pickups" LOLOLOL
Wives and our hobbies (other love) that help keep us sane under all circumstances
That 58' Esquire is so rowdy!!!! I gotta build one...
Tom Petersen of Cheap Trick. I bought one of his 12 string Dragon Hiroshi basses. Not inexpensive!
