He repetatively says so many positive adjectives about each guitar, that it delivers the message , that he does not know what to say about each one and just randomly reads these words from "top 10 positive adjectives list" . So main takeway is : If you have too many guitars , you will have no time to play all of them and you will barely remember from where each one came from.

I can throw a Thinline Telecaster on and then a big heavy Les Paul and hanging from the strap it's not a big difference in feeling. Not something I would notice bothering me even over an hour or more. There is a massive difference in weight between those guitars. Tele is a little over 7lbs and the Les Paul is around 11lbs.
Might be because I'm a pretty big guy, 295lbs 6'4", so a few extra lbs on a guitar isn't really noticeable enough to even think about. It's not something I've ever given a thought about when shopping for guitars for sure.
I've got enough trouble making a decision when shopping for a guitar, I'm glad weight isn't something extra for me to think about lol.

I'm guilty of owning to many , in my defense I've been adding and subtracting since 1975 and 1/4 of my collection cost under $50 even one for $15. Then I have a bunch under $130. I do have very few from $1200 -$3500 and they don't sound better than some of my cheapos they just play easier and relieve so much hand pain (quality build). Just sharing.

I can appreciate the joy of having a huge collection, and no one asked me, but I would consolidate big time, while upgrading at the same time. Get one great SSS vintage style strat, one great HH or HSS strat, keep the Gibson Les Paul R9 get rid of the others. One t style, one great SG. One bass, one hollow PRS and one solid. One shredder Ibanez. You get the idea. Bank a few grand and have a manageable collection that you will play and keep up with string changes. There are only so many hours in the day. I have 6 and it is difficult to play them all enough.

    • @VintageRadius
      @VintageRadius 3 ปีที่แล้ว

I actually agree. If i were super wealthy I’d have a very large open music room with high ceilings, guitars on one wall and a collection of great amps. I might even find some local tech to come and change the strings on all of them once a month and check for truss rod adjustments. That said, I would only own so many guitars that I could still feel connected to all of them. That number for me is probably 15 max with the least favorite couple of guitars getting switched out every so often.

    • @khgear7160

I used to have 30+ guitars and agree 100% with you. I feel guilty that guitars SHOULD be played and I won't play it so I reduced reduced reduced keepin it around 10. Might seem excessive still, but I am a diehard gearhead lol. Way better to trade in a guitar you barely play for something you will!

Thanks for showing your incredible collection. One question, though. Wouldn't your American Standard Strat with the dent in the neck be a good candidate for a dent repair video? It's the technique where your place a wet towel on the dent then apply heat with a clothes iron tip or soldering gun to steam in moisture to make it swell and lift the dent out. Wouldn't this be possible because it's a basic satin finish on the neck and not painted?

I really like that you point out the weight of the guitars. Sometimes, I feel like I'm the only one who cares and feels like that should be a basic spec that sellers and retailers should specify. To me, it's a spec that matters to know as much as finish, body wood, fretboard radius, etc.

18:00 - Fender American Standard Strats in the 2015ish range are THE absolute BEST Strat for the $$ you can find! I had a 2014 Shawbucker model 10 years ago, sold it, went through many different Strats (some being much more expensive) and finally came back around to a 2015 Shawbucker. That one is THE keeper.

Hey Phillip, I'd like to thank you for making me feel OK for having a similar number of guitars. At times, I've struggled with owning so many guitars, feeling like I must need therapy. Ha. I've just loved everything about guitars from the time I was around 12 years old (and I'm now 64) They're in constant rotation so I tell myself it's "OK". I'll have to start selling them off someday out of a fear of my wife dumping the whole collection after my death for some ridiculous give-away price. Just being honest I prefer the sound of the heavier Les Paul because the weight relived ones are chambered (basically meaning they're a semi hollow body guitar). That being said removing the wood although it makes it lighter and more comfortable to play it affects the tone because of the removal of the wood.

Beautiful collection Phil. I was scared that my wife would see this I realized we're neck and neck. Wife and I are moving (not far from Austin), but what made us laugh is when I starting packing gear, I was like "whoa", when will the guitar straps stop having babies!
I have so many toys on my list, I don't know what's next. Gotta say that my three EBMMs have impeccable. Newest (yr ago) is my G&L ASAT CLASSIC Fullerton Dlx (adds belly carve). Ugh, love it! Light too!

Philip, faithful fumble fingered follower here. So I have an idea... supercharge a Glarry 170 with the following, better pots, your favorite trem, locking tuners, a better nut, aftermarket splitable humbucker bridge, better single coil middle possibly a bridge or hot middle, and a P-90 neck pickup with better strings... I think this "Franken RG" might be a truly interesting tonal pallet with the options... especially 2 & 4. Test it on your software just to get a mad scientist giggle before building it. But this might be a crazy good way to change the paradigms of pickup mixes on "desert island": guitars. I am also looking into something like that with a Glarry GST and mulling humbucker/P-90 (or just P-90 Bare Knuckles). I also asked Daniel Braun this same thing and was wondering what you think about it.

Phil, I really love your channel.I'll admit some serious envy on the part of your collection. I don't know how old you are, but I started playing in the late 70's when I was in Jr. High school. I was around 14 yrs old. But I always had to rent guitars back then. When I finally bought my first guitar, a bass, I had been saving up money by working on a farm in between my sophomore and jr. year in High school. I bought a new Rickenbacker 4001 and a Peavy Mark IV bass head with 2 10' and on 15' speakers. I only paid $650 for the bass, and wish so bad I would have kept it because now a good condition one is worth around $5k - $7k. It was a top end version with Grover tuners, checkerboard binding, and everything. I sold it to help pay for my oldest son's birth, but didn't get much for it.
Anyway, I now have 5 guitars and 1 bass (a highly modified Squire Jazz bass.) I've got at least three or four basses on my list, and countless guitars. But I also have to knock off a few priorities before I even attempt the quantity you have. I love EVH brand guitars. I really wish they would start building basses like Wolf was playing when he was touring with his dad. Of the three EVH guitars I have, two have discontinued finishes. I barley got one of the last royal blue with maple fingerboard guitars. I do have an EVH Frankie that I got at the 2020 price; which is at least $200 cheaper than the current price.
I don't know if you've done an amp version of this video, but I would like to see what amps you keep around. I recently purchased an EVH 5150III LBX-S and I absolutely love it. It's the only guitar tube amp I've ever owned. I've always just had small solid state combo amps simply because I could not justify the expensive tube amps. I've been raising 5 kids and that's a pretty tough job. Although those new EVH ionic amps are more reasonably priced. With my bass amps, I've just used a pre-amp, like a Sansamp RPM or the Sansamp Geddy Lee 2112 powered by a GK 700 watt head.
Sorry for blabbing on, but like I said, I really love your channel. I've watched it a lot more than I've commented. I hope to be around 20 guitars by the end of 2022. I want to get most of my must-haves out of the way by then. Have a good one and Rock-on!!!

I have about a dozen guitars, of course I have some LPs that I love and Teles and Strats. but there are two in particular that I wanted to mention. and they are my Gretsch G5122DC electromatic all bone stock right down the open tuning machines. it a guitar that if I had sell all my body parts I would keep my arms so I could play it it a fantastic guitar. and then the most unique guitar that I have, it's a mid eighties MIJ Jackson Charvel Charvette. it has a reverse headstock with Charvel logoed tuning machines. maple neck with rosewood fretboard with the truss rod adjustment at the headstock. with a Charvel logoed EMG style single coil at the neck. and a Charvel logoed EMG style humbucker at bridge. with an actual Floyd Rose (not licensed) with big brass block. one volume, one tone, stock knobs and a three position switch. your going think I'm crazy when I tell you the weight of this guitar. but there's a very important reason why I keep it and enjoy playing it. besides the fact that it has a fantastic feeling neck. it's my guitar that I use to prove that wood makes a difference in the tone of a guitar. and this is fact that weighs almost twelve pounds. I can grab it and compare it to any other guitar with similar specs. or not. and because the wood is so dense that it definitely has a different tone to it. so it's a great guitar to sit down a and play. but I wouldn't want to have stand and play it for long periods of time. but it's worth keeping because it proves that wood makes a difference in the tone of a guitar.

I WON the Contest (that I invented in my head... and no other contestants) and get my pick/s of the T5, the JS, the JEM, Framus, the Somiun, the Solar, the Gretch 130th, and the PF..., when do you ship them?... gimmie! Considering all of my dozens of upgraded guitars are Black (some have Red, Gold, Chrome contrasts), I guess I'd pick the JS or JEM. *lol* Seriously, I'd like to suggest you try something: With the T5 or the Gretch, put a fluid Audio "Strum-Buddy" suction cupped to the base of the center-line of guitar back (probably near output jack) fully locked onto the flat surface. The 5 w output is fixed and your volume is controlled by the Guitar pot, (get the Blackface not the chrome StrumBuddy). It's easier to use than the magnetic Tonewood Amp or the dangling Spark mini. just turn on reverb and delay, but opt out of the OD and ENJOY!

The other day I put every single new guitar and amp I want into a cart on sweetwater. By the end I had over 200 guitars, and about 50-60 different amps and dozens of cabs. Came out to around 1.3 million. What’s funny is if I actually bought all those guitars and amps, I wouldn’t have enough room on my walls to display them, much less enough room to store all the hard shell cases. I just really want a custom shop dual humbucker tele thinline 72 without a f hole. Heavy relic burst. Played through a hand wired Marshall plexi stack and slo100 with a pedalboard filled with all the highest end origin effects, all the uafx, hand wired tube screamer, source audio equalizer, the fulltone tube tape echo, the trex tape delay, the dr. Z reverb tank, every moog and Erica synth pedal available, and then a rack with a h9000, their reverb unit, fulltone chorus, stereo decimator prorack, and a bunch of radial stuff to make it all work. Is that too much to ask for?

Very impressive collection Phillip! My favorites were the Suhr, the EVH, and the LP custom. I love your presentations, if it wasn't for you I never would have known about Harley Benton, I recently purchased a DC junior with a Roswell P90 in it. I never had a P90 before and I just love playing that guitar and that fire breathing pickup! Best off, it only cost me like $260.00 shipped to my house. Thanks again Phil and it always fun watching you play, you do kick ass, but you never disappoint with your selection of amps and pedals too!

Man, that’s guitar heaven right there. I have 2 guitars. A 2005 fender deluxe strat, and a Taylor gs mini. Thinking about selling the Taylor and picking up a Martin, but they are so darn expensive! The one I’m looking at is the Martin d10-e and that sets me back 1000 bucks if I would go for it. So far I just cant justify the purchase since I feel like as an intermediate player, I won’t get my money’s worth out of it. Especially not since I already own the strat.

I too like that sweetwater weighs each one and you choose the one you want. I bought my Brad paisley Tele thru them. However Price wise compared to Musicians friend they are higher priced and i was disappointed with "their" so called set up. I did the set up myself after having it at the house and it is a killer now. love the V neck, I have a lot of V neck guitars. it appeared to be about 50 guitars or so that you showed us very nice.. I only have about 33 mostly all Fenders and Gibson's and a PRS but a 10 top and it has the eagle and Piezo pickup system as well and killer 10 top with quilted maple neck as well a 15,000.00 guitar new, also the suede case the eagle. A 1963 Gibson L-5 C.E.S. and 1974 white Les Paul custom 1992 custom s hop Byrdland just to name a few of my Gibson's lots of Fender Clapton guitars and my All Original 1956 Fender Stratocaster just to name a few. happy picking'..
