Sorry I’m late to the party- just saw this and right when I needed it! Our new neighbors across the street cut down an oak in their front yard that had been there since forever. I asked the workers if we could take a log, and they helped us get the heavy thing across the street. I want to make a box of some sort to honor the original owner, that we knew, who has since passed away. Also- an owl would roost on it. We’ve never chainsaw milled before, so I’m looking up any and everything about that. But that board you just milled… that iridescent sheen that can only be made by a hand plane is just gorgeous! Thank you for this!

Hi Matao, Good Info. I just started using a chainsaw mill a couple years ago. I built a trailer so I never have to lift the logs and I mill them right on the trailer.

damn, you have way more patience than I do. I've been considering getting myself a small mill or even a chainsaw mill, but I would definitely use my jointer and planer. There's just no market for all handmade stuff where I live. It's hard enough finding people willing to pay for stuff done with power tools. That and I barely the extra time to make stuff now.
I do love watching people make stuff completely by hand though. Have you seen epic upcycling channel?

Yes he makes some amazing stuff! The way his mind works to figure out joinery is so cool. I have the power tools, but I usually tend to go to the hand tools, its more therapeutic for me than anything.
