Was working graveyard shift in the mid 80's when this series was on the air. This show was on in the morning, Always looked forward to the next episode. Now loving the reruns.

So sad the recent fire in Lytton. Such a beautiful community with so much history.

I just discovered this series. I love it. This is on par if not better than contemporary historical documentaries.❤ I'd love to sit down with these two good old boys!

Oh Lytton our hearts go out to you. So many bad fires over the years. The heat and almost constant wind are no help. Stay strong. I recall some of the most beautiful and well constructed pine needle baskets ever seen from the area

One of my favorite shows of all time. I love the dynamic between Bill Barlee & Mike Roberts. Bill gets Mike all excited and they feed off each other. Brilliant. Besides the fact I love the history of BC and mining/mineral exploration. Thank you for posting all these videos.

I used to watch this show when I lived in the Okanagan years ago. Still awesome!

Love this show have collected over a hundred of the episodes. Most on VHS wish they would just put out a complete Box set of the series.

Leslie are those the episodes that you have uploaded to your page? Wish the audio was better they're very hard to hear. But they're still great thank you for uploading them. It does suck that there are no DVDs available. Here in the US, we can't even watch reruns like you can.

We used to watch this on CHBC all the time. My good wife met Bill Barlee through business and I've met Mike Roberts.
While he was usually correct as far as I'm aware, the rusty revolver found in the river by the diver is an 1873 Colt SAA, made from 1873 until WWII for the first run, then more after.

About a week before the most recent Lytton fire in 2021 that destroyed the town, I enjoyed coffee and food during a break before heading up into the canyon overlooking the confluence.
Lytton still has not been rebuilt, despite the federal and provincial governments promises to fund a complete rebuild of every house & business
    It’s sad.
Lytton is probably my favorite spot in the canyon. I’ve spent all my life driving the canyon , hiking the canyon and the mountains around the villages.

I drove to Lytton a week before the fire .so sad for the community and to lose the history. Almost stayed in the old hotel but decided to keep pushing on. I wish I slept in the hotel.

We used to catch this show religiously when it was running. Barlee was an absolute font of BC history (which is close to me heart) and hands-on experience. Even if it was just two guys talking on a corny set with a couple of props, I found it fascinating.

I also enjoyed the show back in the day - mike Roberts was one of the few good things on chbc. I would say: take it with a grain of salt. The show became a bit tainted for me when a couple of old timers - independently - told me they couldn't stand the show bc barlee was full of bs. I took that to mean he might be a bit of a textbook expert and may also be embellishing a bit. Lol

@@datacipher the oldtimers can talk all the shit they wanted, but who had the tv show?

    • @datacipher
      @datacipher 6 ปีที่แล้ว

Russell Loomis ...I’m not even sure what that means. Having a tv show didn’t make all of barlee’s stories valid....nor did having a show on Chbc make him an envied man. Lol Being on chbc was something more likely to make one laughed at by kids,
      Not envied!

I vaguely recall travelling up the canyon as a 6 or 7 year old and being terrified of the cantilevered roadway perched over the roaring Fraser. This would have been during the mid 50’s or so. If Bill or Mike travelled it in 1956, then it must have been true. I always thought of it as part of a nightmare!

I sometimes wonder what was going on in the Lower Mainland during these time. I understand Robert Burnaby stake a claim for coal at Coal Harbour. Somebody named Fitzgerald McCleery had a farmhouse that was built in 1862, located within the boundaries of present day Vancouver. Douglas Road connected New Westminster to Burrard Inlet since 1865.

Forget the little sacks of gold, the crevises under the 70mph current hold thousands of pounds of nuggets. Gotta watch out for the 80ft 8ft wide lumber floating by.

Such great stuff. But it blows my mind sometimes watching these 90’s episodes, guy be like 45 years old and go “I drove down that road in 1955”
Hopefully it wasn’t the twin pines farm cause Marty ran over one pine on the way out in the DeLorean. 😎🚀
Not twin pines mall… it’s the “lone pine mall”

Lytton sure has had its dealings with fires. The last one a couple of years ago wiped it completely out. Hopefully they will rebuild it. I feel for the people who have suffered. Terrible thing.
