SO great to have your site instead of hundreds of uncredited threads, thank you!! question: your description of mid era super 40s on the site (8:12 in vid) reads "super 40 is marked below the emblem", though that descriptor isnt as clear your pics... do you happen to have a clear correlating photo, OR would the text "super 40" not appear on the physical instrument? with your guide I think I have a regular mid model 40, but the "3 digit + C" serial like mine was linked to a special (or super?), so I'm stuck! also curious to know what you mean by "mid" - would that relate to release timeframe? thanks again!
Yes if you check this link, the "SUPER 40" is just above the emblem ... though being dark is hard to see. "Mid" is related to the 3 generation of Noblet emblems (before being sold) shown on this link www.woodwindforum.com/clarinetperfection/snleblanc-noblet/#EarlyNoblet40 the image itself of a SUPER 40 stamp just above the emblem ==> www.woodwindforum.com/clarinetperfection/galleryclar/Noblet/NobletEmblems/NobletSuper40Emblem.jpg
Hi! I recently picked up a Normandy Special at a garage sale and have been using your website to try to date it and get some more information on how to restore it properly. I’ve got a serial number of 6047 which puts it in 1971, but there were many other inconsistencies with stamping and posts so I’m not sure. Any information you have would be appreciated. Hope you see this and get a chance to reach out. Many thanks for your upkeep of the website!
Email me at gottalovetheknowledge@gmail.com and send pictures such as found here www.woodwindforum.com/clarinetperfection/help-identifying-my-clarinet/ Buying and refurbing and selling clarinets for a long time I noticed inconsistencies with the Noblet/Leblancs. I'm guessing, but I would think that they would make xxxx clarinets a year. If they weren't sold then they put the surplus on the shelf. At some point in the future they would pull those old ones off the shelf, put a serial number on them and sell them as "new". But the keywork or even emblem harken back many years.
I have a Noblet alto clarinet with a 38xx serial number, but that predates any serial number table I can find, including the one in this video, where it starts at 1964 with 4200. Do you know of any other serial number tables that cover the range of my instrument?
The Leblanc, Noblet & Normandy serial number lists I got from the call center of Leblanc USA back in 1998. None of the old serial numbers were in the computer so some old lady that called me back faxed the lists she had on hand to me. With yours of 38xx ... I assume it would be 1 or 2 years before hand. From 1964 to 1965 they made 365 (1 per day) so subtract that backwards and starting 3835 was 1 year back, and starting 3470 is 2 years back.

@@gottalovetheknowledge4749 I see, so it would've been made in early to mid 1963. Thank you for the information.
💯
My very first clarinet was a Normandy 4, followed by a Noblet 45. Great instruments built like a tank and easy to play.
