    Thanks! I originally thought this was going to just be a video of the Basics, without anything to help me improve. Instead I got great guidance. Thanks!

    A question: you break goals down into Endurance, Size and Growth, & Power & Strength. Can you get into the differences between these goals, & what role one's natural body type might play in achieving these?

    • @NerdFitness
      @NerdFitness  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Determine what you want out of training and then work in that rep range - are you look to lift the heaviest weights? Just build a bit of muscle and strength? Perform a lot of high repetitions?
      As far as body type goes - that's not going to be as much of a factor as the person's goals. Two people with the same body type might have to completely different goals and therefore would have two different training plans.
      But as mentioned throughout the video - if you are just starting off, it's best to stick with mid to high reps and ANYTHING will get you stronger - just start!

    I have a question... Like if we're doing 3 sets of 12 how much weight should we be using? I know it varies from person to person but should we be struggling to lift the weight at the 12th rep? Or should we use even lighter weight?

      Going within 2-3 reps of failure is a good place to start. If you're not sure if you're there yet - add a little more weight next workout!

    Very useful to get a basic idea how to!

    Is it ok to increase weight each set? For example let’s say I’m doing dumbbell bench press. I start off with 15 pounds but am able to reach about 13 reps on first set. Than then next set I increase to 18 pounds but could get 10 reps. Then last set I do 20 pounds but reach around 8-9 reps. Is that fine to do?

      Totally fine to do, and then you might decide to start a little heavier next workout.

    Should I be lifting to failure in each set?

    • @NerdFitness
      @NerdFitness  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Not particularly. Look for 2-3 reps short of failure.

    What does 3-4 sets mean cause I'm struggling

    • @NerdFitness
      @NerdFitness  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Sets are a collection of reps. So you might do 5 reps then take a rest - that would be one set.
      If you did that 3-4 times, that would be 3-4 sets - but do whatever you can and build from there!

    What about for toning? I don’t want huge muscles but I want them to look toned. I don’t even really care about strength.

    • @NerdFitness
      @NerdFitness  ปีที่แล้ว

      The mid-range of 6-12 reps would likely be best for your goals.
      We talk specifically about the fear of "getting bulky" and how it's about as probable as accidentally getting rich (i.e., it doesn't happen by accident!). - th-cam.com/video/U6c8HgnJoNM/w-d-xo.html
      So work on your exercises, work on reducing bodyfat slowly and sustainably through nutritional changes, and your muscles will look more toned.

    Maybe the bulk people are taking about is like comparing a body builder to a strength trainer. The body builders muscles should be bigger and the strength trainers muscles will be smaller but more dense or more firm to the feel.
    Stength trainers will be physically stronger then body builders

      Thanks for the comment!
      Picking up weights and stressing the body is good for pretty much everyone, and we just want to assuage the fears that you'll accidentally become Mr. or Mrs. Olympia after a hard weight training session.
