    I have always been interested in sonerai. Your video renews my interest. I have a set of Sonex plans but don't like the view out front. Having just retired, I plan on building something, hopefully soon.

      The Sonerai is fun - I'm just getting comfortable (but not too much) with take off and landing. I decided to install a larger engine and gae been working out getting oil temp under control so haven't posted in a while , but will soon.

    Your Sonerai videos are great. I'd love to see a walk-around and some more details about your aircraft! Maybe even a video of you flying through some basic some maneuvers. I have one that I have not flown yet, so videos like these contain helpful information.

      Thanks fo the comment!
      No flying lately because of work and/or weather - but we'll get a break here soon.
      I'm working on a video that shows how I trailer the airplane to the airport, put the wings on, preflight, fly, post flight and take the wings off and then trailer home. The process takes about 45 minutes before and after flying plus the drive. For maneuvers, top priority has been making sure I can manage the airplane and land successfully and that the systems are sound. Maneuvers so far are really slow flight, and gentle turns - nothing steep yet, and a couple of near stalls but nothing too slow. I'll get there eventually as I work my way through the EAA flight test program.

      @@edbell3631 what app/device do you use to record the telemetry? and how do you put it on video?

      Hi there. I use a GoPro Max 360 for the video/GPS data and Telemetry Extractor and Telemetry Overlay for the instruments - I highly recommend these tools!

    Very cool! Feels like I’m right there with you! What video camera are you using? How do you create the gauge overlays on the video?

    • @edbell3631
      @edbell3631  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      The camera is a Gopro Max 360. I like the camera because you don't have to plan the shots in advance - you can select the shots you like after landing.
      The gauges are from Telemetry Extractor - some of the coolest animations around for this type of project. As you can tell, I didn't spend a lot of time editing but I'm learning.

    Nice plane. What’s your height and weight if I can ask?

    • @edbell3631
      @edbell3631  ปีที่แล้ว

      I'm 5' 11" and 225 - but, to really fit in this plane you need an inseam of 28". Mine is 30" so I end up slumping some to avoid hitting the canopy with my headset on. I have a IILS under construction to "fix" that problem.

      @@edbell3631how’s the plans for the stretch? I’ve heard the plans are not that good and hard to follow

    • @edbell3631
      @edbell3631  ปีที่แล้ว

      The plans have a lot of information. Careful scrutiny of the plans plus joining the community at www.homebuiltairplanes.com/forums/forums/sonerai.92/ is a way to develop a comprehinsive understanding of the airplane. There are some "gotcha's" but for the most part, things go together as planned. The plans are definitely not step by step instructions on methods and materials as some kits may be. This is a scratch built plane with an assumption the builder knows a lot! I've certainly learned a lot!

      @@edbell3631 good to hear. I’ve wondered if there is a way to cut the 2l frame in the front passenger compartment and right in front of the pilot, slugs the frame with new tubes and make a stretched version?

    How difficult are these planes to fly?
    The sonerai doesn’t seem to have the best reputation for ease of control.
    I would like to build a Sonerai 2 and convert it to a single seater with a front baggage area for a less expensive cross country plane.

    • @edbell3631
      @edbell3631  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I have 51 hours and 99 landings in mine now and it's getting more natural. Like others have said, the airplane is honest flying but requires a higher level of attention than a 172 and the controls are much more sensitive. I can fly mine hands off with just slight rudder input to keep the wings level. Take offs and landings are completely different from the SuperCub I got my tailwheel endorsement in. With such a small tail, wheelies are not really advised. I always land 3 point. . There is plenty of advice on how to fly this little airplane on the Sonerai.net website. Was scary at first, but I'm getting more comfortable. It's not "that" comfortable as an X-country machine - but my next one will have a slightly larger interior and a better seat.

      Mine isn't that bad. It's no 150 but as long as you're looking out the window it's pretty easy.
