I saw them 3 times. 2007 Belfast. 2011 Los Angeles. 2012 Brisbane. Each time it was around $60. If they were charging what they do now I never would have gone.
in 2002 i was a junior in highschool and we were hangin out listening to music and this kid basically gave us the shut up and listen to this speech, but his taste was reliable so we did. said this is a new band called my chemical romance. he played "honey, this mirror isn't big enough for the both of us" and i lost my damn mind. immediately asked for a burned copy (2002 realness) and i might actually still have it somewhere. i've been a fan ever since. that memory is etched in my mind forever. 21 years later my favorite mcr song is still from bullets. our lady of sorrows 👑

I saw MCR live in March this year at a sold out arena sized crowd in Sydney, the first time seeing them live since 2007. The mosh was dead for most songs exact the Black Parade hits. They even played "Vampires Will Never Hurt You" and the energy in the mosh was so low. Compared to 2007 it was constant energy the entire time. Sad to see.

Damn, I'm sorry you had that experience. I saw them September 22 in Fort Lauderdale and the crowd energy was just as insane as it was the last time I saw them back in 2010. Here's hoping your next time seeing them is better!

Bands like MCR and Fall Out Boy were mainstream in my school and pretty sure at least half of my high school loved them.
I love the obscure internet memories. I remember there was a myspace account for Pete Wentz's bulldog Hemingway. My friends and I were all friends with him -- but we will never know if Pete was actually behind the account or if someone else made it up lol but there was one point I DMd with a lead singer of an emo band, we used to talk until like 4am about life and loneliness, just very cool conversations, and that was the absolute most emo thing I've ever done 🤣

I’m genuinely wondering if MCR is still considered “emo” like MCR has become so mainstream and overly saturated that any normie listens to it. Not saying it’s a bad thing but I feel MCR is more broad now than it was before.

I am surprised to see how being a fan of certain groups changes if you are European or American, let me explain, here we do not have so easy to see groups like MCR or Pierce the veil, so the fan base is much smaller and This type of music is considered niche. Fall out boy is my favorite group and I have not found anyone who knows them, however I find it funny that they are so well known there, they are even referenced in an episode of South Park 🤣

I have never understood how MCR is considered Emo. Real emo is Sunny Day Real Estate, Mineral, Christie Front Drive, Promise Ring, etc… How do I know? Because I was there! Bands like My Chemical Romance stole the name of the genre.

I mean it’s not like mcr wanted the “emo” title, gerard way was very much against it up until the early 2010s in which by then he obviously gave up trying to avoid it lol. not to mention, “emo” has widely changed meaning since the 90s. it happens. Get with the times
MCR was never emo, it was a part of the fanbase (posers) who started calling them emo by the second half of 2005, a lazy part of the fanbase who quit listening to them after 2008. They were the ones who thought that being an outcast was a cool thing. I've been an MCR fan since 2004 and I saw the emos appeared and vanished. Now they're back, the people who didnt care about the band after 2008 are back... i'm just hoping they go away once again

If pop culture in the 2000s decided to slap the label "emo" on them, that's not on them. I think if you asked them (then or now), they'd tell you they just write rock music.
they technically fit into the definition of emotive post hardcore (their first two albums, at least), which is, in fact, classic emo. but you can't say they "stole the name of the genre" when they never liked the label in the first place.
