As an English Teacher in Korea, one thing for sure is that Korean students are good at studying since that's literally all they do, however they can have the highest test score in English but their ability to speak English is below average.
Maria M they should honestly have oral exams for english in korea - there's no point having a high test score but not being able to communicate

Here in the Philippines it’s the opposite lol we don’t study much english even though its in our school curriculum, however, we use it everyday even though we’re not confident in speaking; we learn with our mistakes, we basically apply/practice it in our everyday lives. i guess that’s the main reason why we learned it easily (besides the fact that we were colonized by the Americans and spaniards before) we’re learning it by absorbing each word and sentences, we don’t force ourselves to be perfect at it or to know all of it. So everyday we learn new words and sentences because we’re using it everyday from grade school to workplace
@@berenice3626 I completely agree with you. I teach both elementary and middle school students. In my hagwon (afterschool academy), we try to focus on reading, listening and speaking so they can listen and speak like a native speaker. However, as they get older, middle and high schoolers could care less about speaking and mainly focus on making sure they get the right answer. Trying to get the older students to speak is a pain in a butt cos they don't want to be there and they lack confidence
If YJS spoke fluent English, he'd be so much more famous around the world. Because he's one of the best in the world at what he does, but so few outside of SE Asia know it.

This is very true. I have yet to see/hear an announcer/host/talking personality that can match YJS. He never makes a situation awkward and has the ability to control every little detail about a conversation to ensure the privacy of celebrities while being witty.

It’s all about confidence and practice. Speaking from experience. It doesn’t matter if you get the grammar wrong the first time you speak English. As long as you get your point across. It’s hard work, but so worth it!
I wish I had this confidence while learning Korean. I have been trying to teach myself through books and Rosetta Stone but it's hard to keep myself studying every night, I have been slacking. Sadly, the only Korean language class around me is on Saturday mornings and I have to work those days :(. I am hoping to actually teach English in SK and maybe many other places in the future so I want to be able to converse in their language as well (at least in SK).

Coming from a native English speaker: I really believe anyone who speaks even a little English does really well. Even those who say they don’t speak English well are often able to communicate their point.. and that is all that matters. Even though English is a really difficult language, it is still quite easy to understand broken English if you are a native speaker.

큰 동성애자 I’m no expert of world languages, but I do know that English does not have very many consistent rules: for every rule there are always many more exceptions to the rule. It is not phonetic, so pronunciation is really just a guessing game.
Even just taking the small issue of changing a verb from present to past tense:
Many times you add the suffix -ed to a word. Examples are skip > skipped, jump > jumped... but why did I add an extra p to skipped, but not to jumped? I don’t know... But then there are the hundreds of exceptions to this rule. Examples are sleep > slept, see > saw, write > wrote, go > went, be > was/were, and my personal favourite.. read > read. Yep, spelt the same way, pronounced differently, one is present tense and one is past tense.)
Basically, English comes down to memorisation. That means yes, it is definitely learnable, but it is just not logical.
sssnnn that is still easier than most languages. I speak 7 languages and English was the easiest to learn lol. If I was able to teach myself English at 10 then it shows that it’s an extremely easy language

In my opinion, English proficiency is not a necessity instead it gives you advantage for opportunities and be globally competitive for any career you want to take. What is important is to effectively convey the message across. Although, for some work overseas, TOEIC is a necessity or a requirement that must be passed.

He probably did 3-4th best. I've seen shows where he used to interview English speak celebrities, where he was in the States, and on Abnormal Summit during interviews with guests not residing in Korea.

I believe English is becoming a universal language, that's why it's important to learn speak, read, and write therefore it's beneficial to communicate to your fellow global citizens and for your profession as well.
Happy together somehow looks like a very different show, but it's better. It got nice quality camera and nice editing too! The show is less awkward and more organized. The topic is also good everytime.

It is much easier to learn English by watching movies without subtitles, listening to English songs and just converse because it not about tests and memorization. It should be natural way to learn.
It's hard for them if you're not familiar with it from the very start. Just like me. I want to learn Korean but i only know few words but if you talk to me in sentence, i don't know. Foundation is important. That's why there are Koreans coming to PH or in the US to learn english. Because just like in Japan they're language is much more important.
I think its necessary to have subtitles to learn. As a person who needs to learn new words, listening, reading and understanding the actual context is a double whammy to absorb fast

True! When I was preparing for my IELTS exam we were told to listen to the BBC news and those stations with announcers with Australian and British accents. We had to learn about those different inflections. It was difficult.

Back when I was in high school, 45 minutes for a 100 item long quiz is the alloted time. The 1st part is Identification, 2nd part is Multiple Choice, 3rd part is Enumeration, and the last part is Essay.
Our Teacher will only dictate the items twice, even if you didn't hear or understand the item clearly, that will be your problem.😅

The reason why I love jae suk aka grasshopper because it's simple awesome host period, king of being the host of running man since he cares about all his co host jihyo, sumin, se chan, gwang soo, haha, kim Jong kook, even his hyung suk jin, and even kang gary, dont even get me started with xman, infinite challenge, happy together, and more. Cause jae suk is the most caring person who put other first before him and also he makes all co hosts interact with each other because he doesnt what them to feel invincible or feel left out cause that what jae suk hyung does and that why he is name nations korea without jae suk there wouldn't be all of those variety shows I mentioned because he earn that right and jae suk is so awesome and so caring to everyone including the guest he invites to running man
this is what i have done for more than decades as a student in malaysia😂😂 English is a secondary language in my country, and we learn everything in english except for Malay language subject. i think listening test is easy actually, but sometimes due to the poor speaker condition, the pronunciation sounds weird and i cant hear it very well😂
IKR.. When I took MUET I got lucky the speaker pronounciation is good.. Just need to listen carefully
I think that is because the speakers have British accent. And we Malaysian growing up with listening to various accents including American, Australian, Singaporean etc

Like some people said confident and hardwork are the main key point to speak and understand a language. I, myself, do understand English but didn't have the guts to speak it.
Many English speakers love communicating with foreigners. Especially younger ones interested in other countries!
I am curious for the next sequence of this show. I hope KBS Channel will upload the next sequence as soon as possible with english subtitles. I consider myself as a novice in learning hangul though and I do appreciate the subtitles because I can improve my grammar in writing. Listening and Speaking come in handy to me, and it was my cup of tea. Hoping for more shows like this.

TOEIC test isnt easy especially for first time takers. But there are techniques and ways to answer it easier and faster.😉
Even native speaker that speak fluent English and was born in the US have hard time doing this English test!!! 😂😂😂 We have this kind of test every year in the US from Elementary to High school.

It depends where you are from too because the TOEIC for whatever reason is done in American English and as an English native, teaching this to students can get super weird sometimes because I keep remembering I have to go to the American English word, instead of the English English word. But as I took TOEIC to prepare materials to teach it the content wasn't that hard as a native speaker apart from thinking about Americanisms, if anything I found IELTS (the exam students have to take to come to Britain to study) much harder especially at the higher levels.

Lmao I think listening test is quite easy depending on the speaker pronounciation.. You need to be fast and focus when taking listening test.. Or else you will miss the answer.. The TOEIC test is similar to Malaysian MUET (Malaysian University English Test) .. It’s not easy but but not that difficult as well
But muet have 4 section. Reading, listening, speaking, and writing tho.

MUET writing is harrrdddd... I can't. You can't even choose other topic cuz there's literally no other choices and it's only 90 minutes for 300(?) words long worth of essay. Maybe with a lot of practice you can do it in which case I don't and it was torture for me I was shaking too

It does not help that the person besides me talking in fluent english and keep adding more idea and making the person who supervises speaking test add a little bit extra time for him orz.. Though I do get lucky with the speaking questions.. It’s about where or is it whom should we take for vacation? Or is it the vacation inside Malaysia or outside Malaysia? I don’t remember since I took it way back then

growing up in PH, the "accent" thing surprisingly didnt caught on to me. truly a surprise. what isn't is me still stuttering because of translating words in my mind to english even after almost 20 years since immigrating here in the US

BakedMoMo not necessarily pride? People like going to where the language is originally spoken. For Koreans, the American English is what traveled over to Korea from the influence of the American missionaries after the Korean War, so it makes sense for people who can afford it to send their kids abroad to America to learn. But also, there are many Korean kids who may not have the funds to go to the US, so they went to Philippines to learn English and they love the country and can speak decent English from being there
I took toeic exam before, i only managed to score 765.. for me, reading is the hardest part, compared to listening it's way more easier.

Last night I was launching my pencil across the room. I managed to roll it across my thumb 3 times out of at least 100 tries. I'll get there! 화이팅! ^_^

Back home in the Philippines speaking English is just a normal thing. We call it TagLish. Speaking in our own language then mixing it with English phrases is the most common. We're kind of used to switching English and Filipino in a sentence. It's different however from well to do families and yuppies where they speak in straight English while shopping for groceries or visiting bookstores.
Koreans also use English words it's just that the pronunciation sounds different due to them being used to end with vowels and difficulty in pronouncing R but comprehension per se I think the gp understas it.

Philippines is one of the TOP 5 english speaking country. In the age of 5 until you grow up kids are introduced to communicate in English language for them to be ready and to pronounce words well and to have right grammar.🇵🇭🇵🇭🇵🇭

Malaysian University English Test (MUET)? Thats because MUET was tailored based on acknowledge English test all around the world like TOEIC, TOEFL, etc..
I took muet for reading and listening section while the rain heavily poured outside and also the thunder were echoed in the hall..some of friend cried because we cant really hear the speaker..
I took MUET n the listening part is easy..just need to focus on the keypoint but the reading was sucks..😂😂 but still I managed to get band 4😚
we take Listening and Speaking tests too also writing and reading for ESL students

There was an mother that moved to the United States because her son was sick and needed many treatments and surgery. I can't remember where they were from but they couldn't speak any English before moving to The United States. They found them an apartment near the hospital and was in America for 2 years. They learned English by watching English speaking tv everyday all day. There English is not perfect but they can have a conversation with other English speaking people. Everyone learns different ways.
As a Singaporean, I am proud and glad that Singapore adopts English as FIRST language due to it being an international language which makes communication real easy with foreigners and when going overseas :)! Most Singaporeans are super proud to be English educated too!

I know, right? There’s a show that has similar aspects on Viki called Try It
this is kinda similar to korean TOPIK exam, I’ve took both Topik 1 & 2 and I gotta say topik 2 is a challenge because of the time limit to write an actual essay 🥵 TOPIK 1 consists of 70 MCQs reading (40q) & listening (30q), 200 marks, 100 minutes, which I scored full marks. 😭 However, TOPIK 2 consists of 104 questions, is combined intermediate & advanced test which consists of reading (50q), listening (50q) & writing (4 short-answer/essay q), 300 marks, 180 minutes which I just passed! Learning a foreign language is never easy, but if you study hard, the journey will be fun & smooth! 🤓👍🏻✨

As a Nigerian, I find this amusing. Of course, Nigeria was colonized by Britain which is how we historically came in contact with the language. English is Nigeria's official language: civil service, education and government and that serves a practical purpose in a multiethnic and multilingual country like mine. Academically I studied English for twelve years and in Nigeria, it is a subject that must be compulsorily passed before a candidate can be admitted into higher institutions so there's no escaping it. So, one way or another, you just have to be good at both writing and speaking English. Of course, outside academic environment, the focus is on correct grammar, people typically expect you to pronounce with a British or American, or Australian or any other native English speakers' accent. We are Nigerians, afterall.

I took TOEIC before and the exam was like for elementary to middle school students. Pretty easy.
No joke, sitting for the TOEIC gave me a migraine after.
Forget about language knowledge, I wanted to cry over having to answer 200 questions in a row; it was so exhausting. If I wasn't required to take it in order to work in Japan, I wouldn't have bothered. 😤
I had to take the toeic test in uni last semester and I agree with them, it's so fast, it makes it hard 😂
Wanna learn English well and dont have to spend too much? Go to the Philippines. A lot of Koreans go here just for that and they do really well. One example is Dara of 2NE1. Other than her living here with her family, she got to learn English and that is why when you see her interviews in other countries you can see she can communicate well without translators.

I have a different approach in learning english. Because i personally hate learning like lesson it stresses me out. I do it by listening to english song. I was a Taylor swift fan. And Taylor isn't play with her word choices. I force myself to google search her song and translate if i don't know. And if i find an opportunity to use the word i will. 'HOW RECKLESS' lol it's fun and i can learn pronunciation at the same time. Learning should be fun to fasten the progress. And I'm proud to say my IELTS is 7.5 lol

Helena Sh well theres a hot Russian super model there that works in korea 😘. That girl angelina. Rank first on the english test in this variety show. She also in a new show with super junior kim heechul with bunch of foreigner in differnt countries all fluent in korea call “ love in 7.7 billion. Angelina can speak 5 different languages fluently. In this show she was rank first in english but one of the mc said that was expected cause she was a native english speaker. Thats pretty mess up. She was born in russian so how is she a native english speaker. She had to study english like everybody
