honestly a crime this video has less then 300 likes. it's utter eye candy and beautiful cinematography, one of the best 611 videos there is. props to you mate!
Joe, this might be THE best 611 video ever made. The camera work rivals multi person film crews. I can not thank you enough for making this video and all of your others. Can't wait to see what's next!
Thanks for the kind words - especially the part about it looking like a multi person film crew. It was a single camera for this one! (Spread across 3 days)
By far one of the best videos made of last fall's trips. So few people are able to combine videography, editing, and sound for steam as well as you have. Well done!
One of, if not, the best video I've seen to date of 611. Great action, cinematography, high quality picture. A+. 100. Two thumbs way up.👍👍 Excellent job on this video.
I'm not 100%, but I believe my gf and I were on that train that day. Hope you got a chance to ride the train at some point too! It's such a beautiful train and a fun ride through the valley. Pretty cool how YT recommended this to me out of the blue. This is some incredible footage!
Glad you enjoyed the video! This video features six runs edited together across the three days (Nov 3, 4, and 5, 2023) - so if you rode any of those dates, then yes!
@@fuscoproductions I realized shortly after posting the comment that we were on the train on the 5th. It's almost a shame to be on the train because you don't get to see the engine itself racing down the rails, but it was still a good time. Keep up the good work! The camera work and editing is really well done for this.
Amazing stuff Joe! The Buckingham Branch trips were truly spectacular, and this video captures just how dramatic of a show #611 put out on those trips! I had a blast chasing them, and it looks like you sure did as well! Here’s to hoping we can all head to see her in Virginia again next year!
I knew this would be amazing right from the intro but when I got to the shot at 2:10 I was in awe. probably one of the best "pacing a steam locomotive" clips ever filmed
Thanks for the kind words. I know the pacing sequence wasn’t long (and for good reason - we didn’t want to hold up traffic!) but I think it did the trick. :-) Glad you like it!
Really beautifully done; you're sense of cinema, your artful and intentional use of Black & White and most especially your sense of story make this a fine piece of work.
1:58 Joe. This… is incredible!! Your production is unlike any other! I’m glad you could make it to see the J on the main! Quite the hectic chase at such speeds 😂
For sure. I've never chased mainline steam before, the combination of the speed of the train itself and the thick crowds of other chasers was definitely stressful.
Beautiful footage! Interesting fact: I'm pretty sure that C&O 614 under Ross Rowland's leadership ran this route or a stretch very close to it in the 1980s. If so, easy to see why a number of heritage groups would want to run excursions on it. The scenery is glorious.
Words fall short of the impact of this absolutely wonderful video. As a child in the 50s, my mother and I rode behind this J Class several times from Suffolk Va to Bedford Va, It's Boiler plate of May 1950 is the year and month that I was born. I rode it in the latter 1980s, on Saturday for the excursion between Norfolk and Lynchburg. The next day was the employee excursion, and I was waiting at the Suffolk Va station with other rail fans, they with scanners, I was the only one there with a VHS camcorder. I have all the scanner audio, unfortunately when the consist derailed in the Dismal Swamp, that I recorded standing next to the one's with the scanners. I have the only video when the remaining consist was pulled by the 611, and, no I did not take gratuitous video of the injured, did get the rescue vehicles arriving at the Suffolk Station, but respectfully have the best video of the true engineer bringing it in, for transfer. In all it's beauty and glory. Sad day for many, most certainly, but a one of a kind video. Absolutely wonderful video the previous day, walking as quiet as a mouse in the sound car as many elder rail fans were recording audio, which was a very unique video to capture. No match to the beauty of this excellent quality, framing, pans and staying in place while it continued to move, and the audio gave me goose bumps. Reminded me of the audio recording O Winston Link did on Christmas Eve, while the bells tolled Silent Night coming in, and departing. You are very perceptive and gifted with what you did with this video. We took our grandson to Staunton for the Santa Train last December, and the black and white effect was powerful. Reminded me of Lynchburg to an extent, around 70 years ago... thank you!!!!
Thank you so much for the kind words. I'm glad you enjoyed the video and that it brought back some memories. It's comments like these that make me want to keep creating these videos!
@@fuscoproductions I really appreciate you taking the time to follow up with your kind reply. Keep on doing what you are doing, you have an eye and a perspective that brings maximum impact to all of the senses, and really moved me to share that with you. I take heed and notice people who not only appreciate this once in a lifetime work of art, during an era many have not had the pleasure to experience, but know how best to express it. You succeeded in touching the deepest and fondest neurons from 70 years ago, job well done. I subscribed, and will be checking out more from your channel. Bravo and Thank You once again.... Side note, when my twin boys were around 7, I took 2 Radio Flyer wagons and built J Class bodies and put them on the wagons. For Halloween, I had recorded steam locomotive sounds on Tape Players, placed in each locomotive, and coupled them up together, pulling around our neighborhood. Black, Tuscan Red down the side, trimmed in Gold, and bent 1/2" conduit for the rails down the sides. You only live once!!
@@hsavage3350 That's quite the story with those wagons - I'm sure they turned some heads! I'd love to hear those recordings! I once again appreciate your commentary. I love being able to share these videos with others and hearing people like yourself are enjoying them. It is hard to put into words why I like trains, especially steam locomotives, but the videos that I make are an attempt to express that excitement. Nothing replaces being there, but I sure do enjoy trying to recapture the magic in my own way. While I may not post that frequently, I do have more videos coming soon. Stay tuned! :-)
From start to finish I'm floored at how good this is. Truly cannot out Fusco the Fusco! (Although I will die on the hill for my shot at Staunton Station!)
We as people didn’t deserve this video, you’ve completely outdone yourself Joe…. I don’t care whatever video gets released by anyone this year, this can’t be topped
I swear, every single compilation I've seen of this 611 trip includes the underpass at Swoope. Such a perfect spot, praying on my hands and knees that this becomes an annual excursion.
@@charonsferryold I hope so too, this is a great line for the 611 with some gorgeous scenery. Funny you should mention Swoope - I almost didn’t include that shot. (Running less aggressively than the other shots, but I felt the scenery made up for it)

Fantastic video, Joe! This is by far my favorite 611 from last fall. Those were great trips, and you documented them beautifully!
Thanks, Mark! Glad I was able to be there. Mainline steam isn’t something to be taken for granted!
This is worthy of an Academy Award!
Thank you for making and publishing this beautiful document. The images are superb!

Mr Joe Fusco for an Oscar please! What an incredible film. Colour, lighting, mood...it has it all.
Glad you liked it! I do not think train videos qualify for Oscars, usually. 😂😂😂 But I appreciate the compliments.
Un chef d'oeuvre 🎉🎉
I enjoy watching your videos like no others. You certainly did 611’s season justice
Another stellar video, in the bag

This videography is second to none even from the start. Well freaking done dude!
An abosolutely beautiful presentation of the Queen of Steam! Probably the best I've seen from those trips! Excellent work!
Those shots and pacing scenes are absolutely incredible!
Wonderfully and masterly done sir.
The station scene at Staunton, in B&W, genius.

A bit of luck and a lot of hard work done by the people who fought to preserve it - and continue to preserve it today.
