    If I need a great "go to the beach/pool" watch, I'm taking the Casio Duro each and every time. I own the Duro and the Mako 2, and the Duro is just a worry-free watch for water sports and performs very well. If it breaks, I'm only out about $50.

    I have the Casio Duro black bezel/dial model and the two tone gold/SS. Great grab and go watches. I may be a maniac but I spent $100 on a Strapcode two tone jubilee for an SKX, and put it on the two tone Duro. Looks like a million bucks.

    I bought 5 Duros with $40 each, 4 from Wm, 1 from Azm, the price ratio is 3 to 1 vs Mako. I preferred quartz movement watchs, grab and go, always keep the right time, replacement of battery or even the Quartz movement is cheap and an easy diy.

    For clarity, this watch is the Orient Mako XL, not the regular and smaller Mako 1 and 2.

    I hate to be a Debbie Downer, but I look at watches like these... Mineral crystal, aluminum bezel... janky bracelets- No hacking... I think there's SO MANY better spec'd watches out there for the money.
    The Casio beats the Orient for the prices, IMO.

    Being a dress diver kinda guy I have many dive watches. I own the Duro in black and the very dark green Orient Kamasu. You can never own too may divers and in my collection of 240 or so, there are probably around a 100 different divers. Enjoy your content!

    Great video Joe. Both are excellent watches with lots of similarities and some big differences mostly in cost, movements and straps. If money is a consideration and quartz is not an objection the Casio Duro makes for a terrific daily watch. If the extra money is not an issue, and an in house movement is preferred then the Orient Mako is the way to go. Personally I tend to prefer automatic movements, prefer a stainless steel bracelet, like the day/date complication...so my choice would be the Orient. I also like the green on the Orient's bezel. My only issue with the Orient is the 52mm lug-to-lug as I like to stay at a max of 50mm, but if the lungs bend down I could pull it off.
    Thank you again Joe for your comparison and thoughts 👍

      Thanks for watching bud! My wife just put a handful of watches on desk to sell on eBay. I can’t sell them because none of them are working. I have to buy a new battery for each and test and make
      sure they still work and then I can sell. Quartz can be a real hassle. I’ve replaced quite a few batteries in quartz where they never fired up again. Never had that problem with an automatic.

    • @felo6035
      @felo6035 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@AvgJoeWatchReviews I also have several quartz watches with dead batteries which I tend to push back out of lack of time to get batteries and replace. I don't like leaving the crowns pulled out which in some quartz movements will extend battery life out of fear that humidity can get into the case, thus I don't do it.
      Good luck selling your watches. Have a great day brother 👍👍👍

    • @AvgJoeWatchReviews
      @AvgJoeWatchReviews  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@felo6035 I never thought about the humidity piece re: leaving the crown out. I don’t do that simply because the battery loses energy with time any way and leaving the stem out defeats the purpose of a grab and go watch.

    The Duro is great but just too big for me, the good thing is I didn't have to spend much to find that out. The Orient Kamasu is a perfect size. I do wear the Duro but I think if it was 40-42 mm it would be perfect.

    • @luckybiby8968
      @luckybiby8968 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      It is the size of the footprint and the lug to lug dimension that matter, the dimension on the top looks big may not seat big on the wrist, as a diver's watch, a 44mm bezel is easier to use the fingers to grab and rotate, it is harder to rotate a smaller bezel under the water. I see the Duro is great in function, form and fit as is.

    Nice review !
    Are you planning to review the newer Stainless bracelet version of the Casio ?
    MDV-106DD-1A3VCF ?
    They're about $68 on Amazon now.
    I'm grabbing one soon - already have the black face & blue face Duro model, but love the color mix of the new black & green + I hate rubber straps & always prefer a Stainless bracelet.
    It's just a nice bonus to get them both simultaneously.
    My dream is a Duro with better Lume & Sapphire scratch resistant crystal.
    If Casio could offer that upgrade they could be $100 & FLY off the shelves.
    PS I just bought the Invicta Pro Diver Auto 40mm in Green face / dial. It's a very very good homage to the Rolex Submariner - but one factor I didn't suspect until wearing them alternatively is:
    The larger face Casio @ 44mm is quicker to recognize time - hand position versus the more compact 40mm Invicta Pro Diver.
    Further: the Black face Casio Duro has GOT to be the easiest "quick read" face of all -
    Plus it should be GORGEOUS with a factory Stainless band.
    God bless you - David in Texas

    I think an in house automatic movement has to be worth a bit more than a quartz offering, but man, that Casio is no doubt a budget watch king, very well known, but I would pay 100 more for the orient for sure, even though I just bought another duro only because I couldn't resist that batman bezel that I saw!!!!

    Nice video! My opinion: the Duro "Marlin" is iconic and unique (especially for to the marlin logo on the dial and the engraving in the case back). I just bought this hulk/kermit version. It has the full essence of Casio (quartz, inexpensive, durable). Regarding the Orient Mako/Kamasu, I am still a bit skeptical: at that price you can probably buy a Seiko 5 sports that I consider better (but I am biased for Seiko, the Orient is a very nice watch).

    Interesting copmarison. Great show, Joe. I have the Casio blue version and the dial is just gorgeous - deep blue ocean colour. I love the vintage diver style markings and the bezel (one of the best I have ever twisted). Even if it is large diameter, it fits for smaller wrist because the lugs are quite short, so you are not wearing "your father's watch". I bought an oyster strap and the watch looks awesome! For me Casio Duro is way long best diver for the price !! If Casio makes it 40 mm, it will be a best selling dive watch ever ;o) What I was quite surprised is the lume. On my Casio it is a disaster. In your video it looks much better !!

      Great taste in watches you have.
      I also have the full blue dial + Bezel Casio Diver Duro with upgraded Oyster bracelet and it's a true beefy stunner, beautiful especially outside in full sunlight.
      If I had a wish list it'd be to add:
      Sapphire Crystal
      Cyclops over date (+day feature)
      Better Lume
      Oh well can't have it all !
      But I plan to order the new Duro model MDV-106DD-1A3VCF, black face / green bezel / factory stainless bracelet.
      To that, upgrade to a Sapphire Crystal after my first scratch lol

    Great comparison AJ!!! I think both are fantastic, and in fact, I just ordered a new duro, with a batman bezel, boy did that one scratch an itch, I've watned a watch with a batman bezel for a while and why not the duro, great value for dollar spent. The orient Mako looks fantastic too, I did the colour on the bezel on that one, an orient diver is not something I'm sure I will add to my collection as I have enough via Seiko or Islander Seiko homies. Great video as always m8, thanks!!!

    I like both watches but prefer the Mako. I own the Ray and the Casio Bluro and wear my Orient much more. Great in-house automatic movement, better finishing on the case, an okay metal bracelet, and has a little more heft to it. As you said, both are great watches but Orient is a better overall value imo.
