This has been my favorite locking tutorial for many years. I've studied and found inspiration in this video since I was in VA. I like how he demonstrates the different parts in locking over James Brown music. Really cool! Rest in Peace, Skeeter.
I'm trying to learn locking, and finding this video is a gift from heaven. He makes it look so easy, relaxed, yet awesomely funky. Thank you, Skeeter Rabbit, and may you rest in peace :)
Man, I've been only locking for three months, and this man has helped me so much I have a video, I'm probably not that good to most of you, but I think it's good for three months, practicing only on weekends mostly! RIP Skeeter! And thank you!
I feel that the way of making tutorials has evolved a lot, I mean, in most of old tutorials, dancers just repeat slowly their moves, without breakin' 'em down or explaining in detail. But this shit is still WAAAY more helpful than many other (recent) tutorials :-O R.I.P Skeeter
I first got into locking... because I was amazed seeing Skeeter Rabbit's Which A Ways... 6 years later and I've loved it ever since... RIP King Rabbit, the world was not ready for you.
You're very welcome. I started locking late last year and I think I'm getting pretty good at it. It's an amazing dance style and I really love old school funk so it's perfect for me. That, and it perfectly compliments popping when done correctly. If you wanna see some badass lockers, look up Gemini, P-Lock, The Boogie Pimps, Hurrikane, Firelock and J-Soul.
@MBirdDancer You, my dear sir, are a natural born talent for me ! Your video inspired me so much, I'm about to throw away the dance Im into, so that I can start locking. Ty.
Papa don't take no mess - James Brown. Rockin' Funky Watergate -Fred Wesly and the New JBs. Body Heat, The Spank, Cold Sweat - James Brown with a few repetitions and different versions.
this is an awsome video thats going to help so much seriously to be a good dance just be well rounded i mean i know poping locking waving c-walk hip hop breaking and im good at all of them it helps so much in battles
If you take a look at how Kid n Play in their Houseparty I and II and the running man movements, they have their direct relationships to the locking movements.
"Let's Groove Tonight"-Earth Wind & Fire, "Get on the Floor"-Michael Jackson, "The Groove Lin"-Heat Wave, "Ladies' Night"-Kool and the Gang, "Boogie Nights"-Heat Wave. These are a few of my personal favorites. Really, you just have look up a list of old school funk songs and you can even just search "locking music" here.
great tutorial. I got all the moves down. the only thing that pissed me off was not being able to look at his feet. Some of the moves, like the Funky Broadway, you have to look at his feet to get the move correctly. It's a good thing we have other tutorials like Professor Lock's and other guys like him.
Well locking came out in the 1960's and waacking in the 1970's. Waacking took inspiration from locking and vogueing. But it's not the same thing. Some moves from locking can be seen in waacking. But in the end they are two different funk dances
HEY!!! I know what I'ma be doin on the weekends...putting this video on FULL SCREEN and practicing. OK seriously...back in the 80s we did something like the Watergate, and the Funky Broadway...wish I can remember what we called it then.
I was told the which-a-way is one of the most advanced locking moves so don't worry about it :) i'm working on everything and saving that for much much later.
I THINK we used to call the Funky Broadway the Uncle Wully...but I also think it had another name too...I remember one of the rappers used to do something like it *maybe Kwame'?* And the Which A Way always reminds me of a sideways Roger Rabbit...so I can so that one pretty easily.
Everything was right on the money, EXCEPT the "Funky Chicken".... I remember the Funky Chicken done a little different. But what Skeeter was doing looked like a cross between "The Breakdown" and "The Washing-Machine" you tell me..anyways, sometimes when dances got out of the inner city, they tended to change and sometimes the names got mixed up. I'm from the Bronx and later moved upstate NY to Newburgh.
@bboyMojo2590 Thanks man! I hate being injured, (Just pulled a muscle, nothing serious) especially because you can't dance to your full potential. Get well soon though!
i like and yeah he teaches nice and clear buuuuuttttt,,,, tutorial is called that to teach not show right? i wanna learn these moves but i personally think they could do with being played in slow mo too
Well, even though the moves aren't broken down, at least he gives the basic moves and some combinations. At least to that degree, it's a great tutorial for those who can pick up quick I guess.

The moves are simple....yet the groove, the feel and the soul behind them takes years to develop...RIP Skeeter
I can see the true joy in him when he dances. That's cool, good for him for pioneering such a unique and interesting dance style.
skeeter rabbit had flavour. Simple movements but incredibly beautiful at the same time

the song where he does the skeeter rabbit is called body heat by James Brown
They do some altered form of the Funky Chicken in the Chicken Noodle Soup Dance.

the song on the Watergate move is "Rockin Funky Watergate" by the J.B's
HEY!!! I know what I'ma be doin on the weekends...putting this video on FULL SCREEN and practicing.
OK seriously...back in the 80s we did something like the Watergate, and the Funky Broadway...wish I can remember what we called it then.

And the Which A Way always reminds me of a sideways Roger Rabbit...so I can so that one pretty easily.
it looks like just a variation of floats in popping, just a lot faster.
The song is "Bodyheat", by none other than James Brown.

Maybe he was trying to say that he would live on forever.
