Great video Danny. I’m actually awaiting my 20mm 1.8 which should arrive tomorrow. Found an Open Box for $700. I have the 35mm 1.4 GM as well and love it but thought this 20mm would be the perfect companion for it. I only shoot photos so I don’t think I’ll have the small issues you’ve had during video. Cheers mate
Also really good for Astro, but let's just say that with Sony's breathing compensation and active stabilization turned on this is actually a 24mm video lens. When it comes to Primes I think the 20 1.8 / 35 1.4 / 85 1.8 trio is the best bang for the buck.
I like to have the very best performing Lenses, but although the SONY 20mm 1.8 G performs excellent, I prefer more compact Lenses ! So I have the excellent ZEISS Loxia Distagon 21mm 2.8 T* which I highly can recommend !
Danny, I am doing a product review, would the lens above be good for it? It was more of a stationary review (think of like relaxing end YT) where the product is the center of attention, opened, reviewed but the camera never moves - just focuses on that location. Any recommendations?
I actually have one! It’s sharp, but it’s bigger, heavier and the focus motors aren’t as quick as i would like. For the size, i’d may as well carry my 16-35 🤷🏻♂️ However, still a great lens! Just wouldn’t be my first choice
I can’t really comment, possibly, possibly not 🤷🏻♂️ if you need a zoom then go for it, if you want the low light and stick to a lower budget, this is the way to go
Glad to hear it!!! I got another 2 lenses since making this… one of which doesn’t fit in my bag and maybe has taken the title of most used lens 😂 Hi, my names Danny and I have a problem with buying things
OK, question for you. I'm strictly using the 35-150mm for weddings (mostly video, some photo) on the A7rV. Been considering a wider option as I used one recently and with the crop at 4k60 it was nice in situations. Been going back and forth between this lens and the Tamron 20-40mm......what would you choose?
This, 100%. I have a 16-35 as i say in this video and i swapped it out. This is sharp, fast, and wider in aperture to help with the lighting situation. The 20-40 seems nice (however never used it) but i won’t be swapping this out anytime soon

Done. Decision made. Getting it !! Thank you ❤
This has been my most used lens for the last couple years! I keep buying other lenses, but I always come back to my 20mm. Something about it.
Fiiiiine, I'll pick one up
I bought this lens when I shattered my 24-70 GM. Since then I got the 35mm 1.8 and 85mm 1.8…. So much better IMO than zooms.
Yup, i have done pretty much the same thing, never been so happy 😀
What camera and any crop?😮

You persuaded me. I just bought it :)

It's really good! Im actually selling mine now though, wanting something a bit more wide than my 24-70
huh? Why sell the 20mm then? Or am i confusing something?
@@lonbecks I have a 24-70 and realized 20 is too close of a focal length. Viltrox recently made a 16mm f 1.8 I love way more
Which would you choose for street photography & videography. 35mm f1.8 or 20mm f1.8?
I’d be more comfortable on a 35mm, but that’s just me 🤷🏻♂️
I'm curious if you've considered the viltrox 16mm, which is significantly less and just as tack sharp

Curious if the 16-25 2.8 would make you change your mind. I’m currently debating between it and the 20mm
I can’t really comment, possibly, possibly not 🤷🏻♂️ if you need a zoom then go for it, if you want the low light and stick to a lower budget, this is the way to go
Any advantages over the Sigma 20mm f1.4?
Can’t say unfortunately, not had the opportunity to try the Sigma
It's always a trade off...630 vs 373 grams. Do you want to carry a 630g lens? Sigma is in another weight class...
The 20mm f1.8 is my most used lens… 😁

Some people love it, some don't... I donno what to do lmao
Go with your gut. Everybody loves a 50mm, i don’t. Yet give me an anamorphic lens which gives me a 50mm fov, i love it. We all have our own taste
Sony fucked up with 20mil f1.8. They make GM quality lens on the price of G lens.
