They should bring this lens to the first manned space travel to the Sun and see what the lens flare looks like when it really is the closest light source. Those brave men and women won't die in vain.
to everyone hating on this, you have to keep in mind that it all depends on your style of photography. This is obviously not made to be used on professional settings, but for people who shoot psychedelic/vintage looking photos it can be really useful and fun for some experimentation. Yes you could edit all those effects in post production , especially the color ones but that just takes all the joy and interactivity of photography out of the experience. personally i wish they sold the color filters and split images separately but oh well
I'm not into professional photography at all, but this looks like a lot of fun to me as I really like experimental stuff. Maybe people should think outside the box more?
No...just no. These filters are nothing more but cheap. You can buy filters that are specifically designed to be attached to good lenses, which would have a better effect.
@@gargarbad6047 exactly, also no one wants it to be sharp. It’s literally a toy camera effect and only 20. This an the plain holga lens are my favorite.
This set seems to do exactly what it was designed to do for the market it's aimed at. It's not meant for pixel peepers, photo journalists, wedding photographers etc. It's meant for people who want to get funky and creative, don't mind adapting weird lenses to their cameras and are willing to spend an entire weekend to come away with only a handful of nice artistic shots. The gels show that it's aimed at black and white as those are the standard gels used to modify the light when using black and film - for example the Yellow is used to darken blues so that clouds get more contrast and green filters are used to enhance photos of foliage letting the leaves pop more. Now we can alter the balance of the colours in editing using the RGB levels editors these filters aren't used as much so appear weird to shooters only used to digital.
God damn those video transitions between colourfilters look cool, especially those with no filter in the midlle. I wonder how they look on fullframe. Sure you can add the effect on post or just tape some colour gels, but that's no fun. I want to spin it!
It's surprising that they don't have an option to combine the turrets (i.e. have filters on top of the split effects). Would've been a simple change to just have a magnet on both sides of the turret wheels to daisy chain effects.
You've be commenting about the vignetting on the Holga lenses. This is actually a feature of Holga cameras, the lens is actually designed for 120 roll film. The lack of vignetting on APS-C cameras is possibly undesirable for for many users of these lenses.
Hi Christopher, great video and demo of this lens that I did not know anything about. Could you tell me how many lines of resolution this lens has (ball park), it seems that it has a very "soft" focus. Thank you, Ciao, L
I really don't understand the point of these Holga lenses. If you want to have all these effects on your pictures, just do them in photoshop later.....or did I miss something?
its all about interactivity and real time, plus deliberate low quality that unleashes other ways of composing stuff. low sharpness means composition matters more/in adifferent way. seeing something that expressive in realtime brings artistic challenge and fun to the exact moment, bringing some of the feeling of old style 1click photography. having worked much with all media from ultra classic to ultra contemporary 3D, i must say post-editing is not fun in an interactive way and it's also chaotic, too many options, too many things to tweak, bad for perfectionists because you can always try more ;)
I’ve been using this on my older a99. I thought it was something I could use on my a7r2, and got concerned when it wouldn’t mount to the e-mount... then I tried it on the 99 and found it’s made for my a-mounts! I think I have an adapter to use my a-mounts on my e-mounts so I may try it to use this on my a7r2. It’s fun. I find it helps on bright days, and agree it can be soft. I’m planning to use it for incorporating it into my fine art work. The vignettes are cool. If I used it at something more professional like a wedding it would be a secondary camera. Just to produce fun shots. Maybe let an assistant use it. I’d of course let the client know it was being used as a secondary camera, for fun odd shots. When getting hired you could easily have a contact sheet showing what it can shoot.
I think you'd be way further ahead to get some filters to use on the lenses you already have, much better images and no massive magnet near the delicate electronics. Prolly cost less too.
I've just paused the video when you were changing filters halfway through - different colours on top and bottom with the middle blacked out. Also makes for an interesting setup....
Hi friend... Once a site from here in Brazil, published a gallery of an english photographer, who took pictures of some cities with a lens baby lenses. He managed to miniaturize people, houses, cars ... well cool! Why do not you review these lenses?
I like some of the effects but they could have better made lens caps which perform the same effects since the softness of the lens is so extremely present it is unusable in practice. at least in my opinion.
This should be called: turn your DSLR into a 2008 cellphone camera to gain an effect you could recreate in any photo editing app in less than 20 seconds.
Actually the macro ones are really impressive
Only comparatively when watching in the context of the rest of this lens' footage, haha.
I’d love the color ones for shooting black and white, specially the yellow with a hole one as well as the split colors.
"Aim your camera at the nearest strong light source" points at a light source 96,000,000 miles away :P
still the strongest visible one
They should bring this lens to the first manned space travel to the Sun and see what the lens flare looks like when it really is the closest light source. Those brave men and women won't die in vain.

It’s called toy cameras for a reason. Anyone with any skill or creativity will experiment with the camera at times just for fun.
Sorry, are you asking people on TH-cam to _reasonable_ ?
Camera is like , wtf i'm looking at :D
These split-effects could actually be pretty neat when you're making a little movie and you want to portray some psychodelic effect ^^
overTIMe I like your comment. Kind and benign. Very rare on youtube. :-)
*****
^^ glad you liked it :D
overTIMe ^^get a room you two
hemoglobbin ;)
psychedelic *
you could do some nice 80s-90s videocamera music-videos.
This is a really fun idea! I wish there were more lenses like this.
cool little toy to play around with and do something different and creative. Has its time and place and for that I think its pretty dope.
You can shoot a remake of "The Cabinet of Dr. Caligari " with these color lenses.
Hehe yes! That's one of my favourite films.
My eyes are bleeding
Same here
If used properly, this lens can create some interesting perspectives, even on a wedding. :-)
I felt like I was at the optometrist while watching this asking me which lens are clearer, 1 or 2? 😂😂
A lot of these effects actually look really useful for doing some arty farty photography and video work imo
No...just no. These filters are nothing more but cheap. You can buy filters that are specifically designed to be attached to good lenses, which would have a better effect.
@@CalebWolf how many times more expensive for that many effects?

"pretty gnarly four point sun stars... which look cool" 😂😂
This seems like something I buy and throw away 20 minutes later. Great Review, though... Saved me the $$.
This lens is so soft that I checked my TH-cam settings thinking that the resolution had started at 360p. Lol
Glad you spent the money and not me ;) Thanks for taking one for the team.
I think the colors would be better for black and white.
AZREDFERN yeah they used to make color conversion lenses like that back in the film days when most people show b&w
God damn those video transitions between colourfilters look cool, especially those with no filter in the midlle. I wonder how they look on fullframe.

Omgosh, your humor about legal issues had me dying! 🤣🤣🤣🤣

Wow! I didn't expect the quality of the three macro lenses!
Could definitely have some fun with this. Great review Chris

Making your stomach turn as fast as the filter changes must be a plus too.
no test result from holga vs garage wall, did it break or bounce :P

No idea. In TH-cam video terms you might be looking at 360p hehe
The macros looked quite nice, they should make one serious lens specialized in macro around this idea, maybe.
Why? That's my only question lol
Hi mate.. great vid as always..one question, so did your camera eventually affected by the magnet?
No, but then again, I didn't use the lens very much
This lens definitely takes the lead in your weird lens playlist..one weird (but interesting) lens! :)
I love these reviews! keep them coming!!!!
I really don't understand the point of these Holga lenses. If you want to have all these effects on your pictures, just do them in photoshop later.....or did I miss something?
+Lee Lauer I suppose it just saves you having to do it in editing...but frankly you do have a good point
+Lee Lauer you might want to concider to take the picture with a 2002 cellphone too ...
No you are not alone ... I don't get it either.

Lee Lauer Maybe for video shooting. It is not thar simple to edit a video to have this effects.
It'll be fun to experimenting with this lens.
These would be great for my 1982 senior pictures.

I wonder if you could use it in conjunction with a lens that does have focus
I kind of get the idea of that lens but that softness kills it looks like a 0,3 MP image out of a potato
I think you'd be way further ahead to get some filters to use on the lenses you already have, much better images and no massive magnet near the delicate electronics. Prolly cost less too.
magnets don't pose any type of danger to modern electronics that don't use any magnetic stuff (so, nothing in a camera)
theres no metal in a camera?
Thanks!!! I hate LSD now!
Well, that was certainly a product. That's about as far as I can stretch the praise XD
Some of these effects might actually be useful for a fantasy scene.
I've just paused the video when you were changing filters halfway through - different colours on top and bottom with the middle blacked out. Also makes for an interesting setup....
Am I just not enough into cameras to understand the advantages of a lens that creates effects which could easily be recreated in post production?
Absolutely weird, but still interesting to see.
would be nice to have at least 3-4 step focus and a tad sharper image. testing it on portraits and well composed arcitecture would be interesting too.
Thank you very much for this review!!
Binge watching these videos and this damn piano song is driving me crazy 😂
Hi friend...
Once a site from here in Brazil, published a gallery of an english photographer, who took pictures of some cities with a lens baby lenses.

Why do not you review these lenses?
Hmm...maybe one day!
can you use this on a sonya6000 ? also pleaaseee make a review on the " HOLGA SPLIT IMAGE FILTER SET SILS-HL FOR DIGITAL " tnakks! (:
I like some of the effects but they could have better made lens caps which perform the same effects since the softness of the lens is so extremely present it is unusable in practice. at least in my opinion.
This lens now costs $140 on amazon lmao you can get a nifty fifty for that price
Do they have one for a Pentax K mount?
At first I was like naaahh...then the splitting started and I was like yayyy ❤️
Thank you Chris. That was an interesting review.
Excellent Review!!! Made me buy this lens! Subscribed :)!!
In the video you say and write HLT, in the description HTL... which one is correct?
Ooops! Thanks for the heads-up. It's HLT.
Reminds me of those trippy movies that tried to recreate an acid trip in the 70's.
That's why post production was born =))
I bought one and when I try using it, my display screen just looks pitch black. would you know how to fix that?! thankss :)
+Teresa Arce Check it really carefully to see if you're using it correctly
is there a link to buy it anywhere?
nice to see that some lens engineers still take LSD
Great review. Thank you for saving me money :-)
Where can I buy one of these for the Sony A 6000?
Hello. Do these lenses fit on Film cameras? Thank you.
Yup
Puts it on a Red Gemini
Red: Am I a joke to you
A lens for making more creative photoshoots
Great Review! Thanks!
Could you not mount this to a small lens?
Mr. Rob Zombie, take notes for your next movie!
Im late but should this work for a canon 500n?
The old film camera? I think it should do
This guy has the loveliest voice 😉 x
This should be called: turn your DSLR into a 2008 cellphone camera to gain an effect you could recreate in any photo editing app in less than 20 seconds.
seems awesome for video
Captain Beefheart must have used this.
isn´t that obsolete on digital? just another thing you want but do not need...
Will this work on a full frame camera
Watch the video, and you'll find out
Too bad it has so much vignetting on Full-Frame. The color filters might be very useful on 35mm B&W film.
super good review! Thanks :)))
the cross screen filter is nice
Where can i Buy this Filter ? I have A Holger and want this
Try eBay or Amazon
Why I’m I watching this, I don’t even own a camera
Diego Shinoda same but my question is also how did I get here
It’s one year later. Have you bought a camera yet?
aww, cute little lenses
Haha, laughed a lot! Your humor is so frkn dry, you must be a brit! Thx for the review, helped alot!
Can I use this lens in my canon t5i dslr?
Yup
cool review, thanks :)
This is perfect to do some psychedelic "Pink Floyd-ish" stuff with that, hahaha!
That's suitable for 640*480pixels photos :D Perfect for instagram :D
this video is cool actually
Diameter of each lens?
I almost expected to see Schroeder from Peanuts in one of his pictures.
I got dizzy while watching the samples 😂
I just watching it in 20.11.2019 - how it's possible? I mean it's not a mystery, but more like a funny thing. 😁
I lovee this series
never point your camera to the Sun. just don't. You can potentially burn your sensor and thus destroy your camera.
Where can i find this lens? 😍
Check eBay or other places on the internet
Music video worthy lenses here...
Normal is good
Nice effect
