so artblock in short is the moment to remember why you want to draw if it doesn't work, start reaching out to do other newer stuff like learning more complex/dynamic poses, new characters' body type and/or animal species, challenges that requires you to push the limit, etc... and not to just head-first ramming into the artblock over and over by just drawing ordinary stuff again
I basically had 3 years of artblock over my 3 years of art school. I couldn't get myself to draw or animate anything other than my assignments with joy, no OCs, no fanart, nothing that got me into art in the first place. Wish I had this video back then! I graduated this year and even though I'm doing college now, I can finally focus on art as a hobby instead of a requirement! What I'm trying to say is basically you can never force yourself to make art, it will not make you happy (in my experience anyway). Taking a break can be necessary. You'll find that spark again before you know it
Literally!!! Going to an art school killed all of my desire to draw. I just started again after about 4 years! Art is finally fun again but it kinda sucks since my skills are kinda stuck at the level I was at back in like middle school lol. (I ended up never finishing my assignments and changing schools). It was a valuable lesson though: sometimes hobbies should just be hobbies.
The last advice is genuinely the most important, in your whole life even. I have never had artblock and I think it's because of this, I've always wanted to make something that would make other people feel happy and feel something like how I do when I watch shows or look at art. Listen to yourself and take all the moments in the world that you need to do the things you love and follow your dream.
Girlie . . . I don’t know why, but somehow I’ve never actually heard about that as a drawing hack???! Like dang. Introspection wasn’t on my expectation list going into this, but woah. That kinda made me get emotional and I was pleasantly unprepared?!!? Thanks for this stunning video 10/10
I think that the reason you and many others never saw this advice is because the videos we watch for those advise are done primarily by people who HAVE a purpose already or already Have a project they work on and it is not what they think about consciously when giving advice
With comics and stories, I highly recommend doing all the necessary pages until it’s complete THEN start posting it on a schedule (scheduled posts is a god) and secretly be working on other things or taking a break 😊
One of my biggest hacks for not just getting over art block- but getting through it- is to actually use a different creative process/medium in the meantime- I’m a digital artist- but on the side I also love writing extensive and short stories as well as sculpt figurines and it’s so refreshing pouring ur energy into a new medium that requires different inspiration, different techniques and different skills- even if ur a complete beginner at it- it also can really help learning wise- and with a lot of creative mediums I’ve learned- I’ve been able to take things from them and put them into my own digital art- it’s just a really fun and even productive feeling way to get through art block- highly recommend
Just started, but a foolproof way to at least make myself draw SOMETHING (or make something, ect, whatever craft Im doing) is to buy new art supplies. Buy an expensive marker you’ve been wanting, buy a cute pencil at dollar tree, buy more clay, or fabric, or whatever it is you use to mkae art! Digital Artists, try downloading new brushpacks, challenging yourself to use defult brushes you never use, or download a random drawing program and make art there, the apple default notes app can work wonders for art block! Creativity thrives on change, sometimes a small change is all it takes.
Also!! Try drawing the thing you draw all the time. You know, the thing. 3/4ths angle shoulder up, fanart, bodies, hands, if thats your thing, just, the thing you draw over and over and over, draw it again, stop feeling bad about making the same peice of art, because it’s never the same peice.
@@teddy_bear6122especially when you get a new sketchbook.A lot of people want to make amazing art at the first page of their new sketchbook, and that’s what stops them from starting.Making messy and bad art and „ruining“ the book at the first page already will make you care less if you make a mistake when you draw again later.
I have a piece of mind to share about artblocks and hacks Lets compare it to depression. Number one why: I am a specialist of dealing with if. Number two: depression has all the different nasty flavors, kinda like an artblock. Every artblock is different. I had one cause of perfectionism, overworking myself, selfhate, loss of why I've been doing that, etc. And it all comes to a recet Like methods for panic attacks. You are distracting your brain and kinda resetting it. It can include naming 5 sounds around you, things corresponding to every color of the rainbow, walking barefoot on some stones, focusing on breathing on specific pattern With art, it's easy to get yourself into a corner and get stuck Thats why not all "hacks" work for everyone And understanding where the root of the problem is, would be your way to find a solution If you have a specific way of making art, like, sketch with pencil, line with liner, color with marker, add shadows, then throwing that scheme away and trying something opposite, like, just take gouache and do every step with it, is gonna help. You may hate it at first, but it will work, give it time. Does not have to be gouache. It has to be you still making art, but another way. And switching supplies is good anyway, you work with every one of them a bit differently Also if you struggle with perfectionism, that's also a good thing to try, you can't fully control a material you are not familiar with And every artist had their own "hacks", which really should be called "methods" For lack of ideas there are also some ways you can just let out every silly one. For me now it's inktober About drawing every day...well, that's how I got my first artblock. In half a year of practicing daily when I just started, it gave me an enormous boost. When I had ideas, I would go with them, otherwise time to study stuff. So, I would say, give yourself a limit of how long to draw every day and when are the days off when you do not even touch your supplies. Yet it has been like 10 years since. Now inktober is not draining me. I spend around an hour every day and it's done. Feels awesome. Basically if you got an artblock, sit down, relax, take a minute to think why and how it's best to deal with it. I hope my explanation would help some people and please take care of your mental health, especially those still in school who can't catch a break. For you guys, I want to say, don't make evey study assignment perfect. Some of them just need to be done. You are gonna lose most of what you've done for good, cause you will get much better quicker then it feels. And, even though it's sad, but a lot of people don't find job right after graduation. It's possible that you would take a good enough job, that will give you time to improve even further. You'll get there. From personal experience, it will only be possible if you won't also have depression. Moving slowly is way better then laying on the floor crying and not getting anything done at all. One last thing. Do not mess up your wrist. Watch carefully, don't put pressure on your tools, I know people who lost their jobs and it took them years at worst to get it healed
a lot of the gods from the myths had multiple things that they were god of. So as well as Athena being the goddess of wisdom and strategy she was the goddess of arts and crafts which is really important to the myth of Arachne
Oh my god, you literally made me cry 😭 It's been a while since I wanted to draw and every time I start drawing I didn't want to anymore, just like you I usually wait until the art block is gone, but as soon as you asked why I draw? What is my goal? It reminded me that I'm doing this for me and that's because I love drawing and designing characters, I love writing stories and building worlds, I love animating and working on my characters, and I enjoy the whole process, not just the result. Thank you very much! You have a new subscriber 😉😍
Taking a break. Getting out of the house and doing something, hanging out with friends, reading, writing, maybe exercise if ur into that (hopefully something fun). Also input, consuming media that inspires you, maybe something new you haven't seen before. These are the only things that work for me!
Here’s a tip, you know how late at night is just bright enough to see silhouettes and shadows look around during that time, and see if you can make out any shapes that are reminiscent of objects or people or places or whatever remember those shapes and then draw them
honestly subliminals (except for those “change your eye color” kinda ones) work rlly well. its probably the placebo effect, but honestly thats also great!! If the placebo effect is gonna help it’s acceptable yk?? (Also ur supposed to listen to it while ur drawing i think, at least that’s what i do)

Hi, hello! I'm new to your channel, and I already find myself captivated by the energy you put out. Like rooted trees that accompany burbling streams, you seem like you'd be a great friend to hang out with and to have in one's life. You've inspired me to try and do that one last sketch/doodle I've been meaning to on a page I've slowly been filling out (five months in the making now, started back in May!), so hopefully I can finish that up tonight :)
This is so random but I just got a cavity filling and i cant eat but im hungry lol. Anyways what im trying to say is that your helping me be distracted lolllll.
I got art block while in College/University. It went away a few months shortly after I graduated. Lowkey going to be real here. Some times it may be your work load on classes, or even a jerk professor.
so artblock in short is the moment to remember why you want to draw
if it doesn't work, start reaching out to do other newer stuff like learning more complex/dynamic poses, new characters' body type and/or animal species, challenges that requires you to push the limit, etc... and not to just head-first ramming into the artblock over and over by just drawing ordinary stuff again
As an aside, Athena was a goddess of crafts. Weaving in particular is pretty significant to her (Arachne myth).
I was actually heading to the comments to say just this. Especially her Roman counterpart, Minerva.
Well there are interpretations of her being the goddess of wisdom and warcraft, but I can see yours as well.
I basically had 3 years of artblock over my 3 years of art school.
