    BEAUTIFUL PIECE AMAZING WORK

  • @grimskull416
    @grimskull416 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    I did the math on this.
    1.4mm gauge .925 sterling silver wire, cut into 130 rings with an inner diameter of 15mm.
    Equates to 47mm wire needed for each ring, or 6.11m for 130 rings.
    When you add the tools , time, and craftsmanship to make this, you can understand why it is priced the way as it is.
    What an amazing job. Liked and subscribed.

    Thank you sir, for allowing us into ur shop...I just enjoy watching ppl create. I have tried doing this on a much smaller scale , 18, 20. Gauge ... but I’d live to try it at this gauge..u make such complicated pieces. I’ve informed you I do want to order a couple large pieces for me and a smaller gauge for my wife. I also like the gold u use..I wear all 18 k gold...can’t afford 24k and it’s bends way to much...I’ve heard arguments clipping rings vs sawing rings? What’s ur opinion? Take care and stay well.

      As a budding chainmaille artist there are pros and cons. Rings cut with a flush cutter are only flush on one side so the join when the ring is closed isn't perfect. They are also easier to close however, the final joint, even when soldered isn't smooth. One has to rely on soldering technique and pulling the chain through draw plates, sanding, and the tumbling/polishing process to smooth out or hide any imperfections. As you saw, the soldering failed in one spot. Saw cut rings are flush on each side of the joint. These are more difficult to close precisely, but if done correctly, and the piece is work hardened by tumbling, they do don't need soldering. These are more suitable for fine jewellery, where the finish is critical. The jeweller here is balancing speed and effectiveness in his production process by flush cutting his rings. Moreover, he isn't doing fine jewellery, but tribal fashion jewellery. so perfectly closed joins aren't necessary in the rings in this design. If he was say, making a belcher chain, saw cut rings would be necessary as every join would need to invisible as such chains rely mostly on the quality of the ring joints for their integrity, strength, and attractiveness.
