Yes it was the year, maybe it was destiny (although I'm not sure that exists in reality). Probably could've played this frame 500 times again in the same position and not won.
This match always stuck in my mind. I watched it on ITV when aired in 1990. I was a big fan of The 3 main Canadians Bill, Kirk and Cliff but often watched Chaperon. I spoke to Bob at The Connaught Rooms in London in Jan 85 after his match with Big Bill. I went to see Bill play that day and had never seen Bob Chaperon before. Bob won 6-1, and including my father and I were only 7 people watching the game. After the match I spoke to Chaperon after asking him to sign a programme I had. He was a friendly chap.
Lovely bloke Bob
Both Bob and Alain are class acts.
It's a shame that Alain haven't grown his mullet just yet, otherwise this could be one of the most 1990 videos ever :)
That was a great escape
This was the year Bob Chaperon beat Alex Higgins, right? Quite fortunate to get to the final given that final frame

Yeah he did .one of biggest surprise wins ever this was
Amazing how if it's meant to be it's meant to be. Snookers is one thing but the fluke was just outrageous.

Chaperon looks like George Roper 😅
Can't see the resemblance myself, never saw him in Man about the house or George and Mildred looking like that.😀
Poor attempts to get out of snookers cost him the frame.
yes the last red cost him the match
