    This is what I was looking for. Ideas on how to build a smoker from a file cabinet. I was paid to remove a heavy duty fire proof file cabinet from an office building. It weighs about 400 pounds and Instead of trashing it I wanted to find ideas on how to modify it. Thanks for the video 👍🏼

    Difference in temp from top to bottom seems like a good thing. Temperature control. Loving this build!

    The paint from the cabinet isn’t harmful to the food?

    What’s the purpose of the trays of water? I’m starting my build today, I got 2 cabinets from a buddy of mine and I’ve wanted to build one forever, but I’ve never seen anybody use water like that?

    Where'd you get those dampers, and how did you install them? Looks like you cut the bottoms of the drawers out and welded in some grating. That's a lot of work.

      You can't. Heating a galvanized metal surface releases zinc fumes. These fumes accumulate in the food but are also toxic to breathe. For this reason, utensils with galvanized surfaces should not be used in food cooking. This includes using galvanized-surfaced buckets or cans for cooking, as well as any ladles or stirrers.

    I have a question about your build did you replace the plastic wheels on the rails with metal ones or just remove them and use it without wheels?

      Jason Smale This particular file cabinet come from a government office. it’s all metal construction and has metal ball bearing wheels on the inside.

    I am working on my own project now converting my cabinet to smoker. Question, are you not worried about juice dripping on chicken from ribs? Wouldnt alter the flavor of chicken or something?

    This rig is a nice set up. What was the final cost of this project? I'xe seen quite a few vids and yours look really study and well built. Why didn't you use more wood with charcoal only as a starter?

    • @gerardhalford
      @gerardhalford  6 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Von Voluptuous. I got the file cabinet for free. There's about $100 in material. And my time. Which is priceless. LOL! It took me about two and a half days from start to finish maybe about 4 hours a day working on it. The primary wood that I'm smoking with is pear, and I didn't have a lot of it. So I was trying to ration it. It seems like you don't need a lot of the hardwood to get the flavor out of it.

    Dumbest thing I’ve seen and toxic as all hell. If I went to a filing cabinet bbq I wouldn’t eat anything cooked out of it, also wouldn’t stand anywhere near it
