Lemon Ice Cream Recipe Ingredients: 1 ½ cups heavy whipping cream, organic 1 ½ cups half and half, organic 1 cup sugar plus 1 Tbsp. 6 egg yolks ½ tsp. Vanilla extract ½ cup fresh lemon juice, organic, chilled ¼ cup Limoncello liqueur, chilled, optional, can use all lemon juice if desired Lemon zest from 3 organic lemons Directions: Freeze your ice cream insert overnight. Pour the heavy whipping cream and the half & half into a 2 quart saucepan over low heat. Add the sugar and the lemon zest and stir to combine. Increase the temperature to medium high and continue to stir the mixture until it you see a little bubble around the edges of the pan. Don’t let it boil. Once it simmers, cook and stir for about 5 minutes making sure the sugar dissolves. Turn off the heat and place a lid on the pan. Let it sit for 20 minutes so the lemon zest can infuse into the cream. At the end of 20 minutes remove the lid and place the saucepan back over medium low heat to bring it back to a simmer. Once the cream is back up to a simmer, turn off the heat and we will temper the eggs by adding hot cream a little at a time to the yolks while stirring constantly. This will bring up the temperature of the yolks gently without scrambling them. Here’s how you do it. With your egg yolks in a medium size bowl, take a whisk and break/mix up the yolks. Add a small amount of hot cream slowly to the yolks, whisking constantly. After you ‘ve added about a cups worth into the yolks, you are going to pour the yolk mixture slowly back into the saucepan with the rest of the cream over medium low heat. Remember, you will whisk constantly until all the yolks are in the saucepan. From here you will continue to stir with a wooden spoon until the mixture thickens and coats the back of the wooden spoon, between 6 and 8 minutes or so. Turn off the heat and stir in the vanilla extract. Let the mixture cool enough so you can place it into mason jars or a covered bowl and refrigerate ideally overnight. The ice cream mixture must be cold before pouring into the ice cream maker. When you are ready to churn your ice cream, add the lemon juice and the limoncello and stir until it is well combined. Pour the ice cream mixture into the ice cream maker and churn for 15 to 20 minutes or until the ice cream is the consistency of soft serve ice cream. Place the ice cream into a shallow dish, cover and place in the freezer until ready to serve. The Limoncello helps keep the ice cream from freezing rock solid and you should be able to scoop it right out of the freezer.
About 2 years ago, I bought a delicious lemon icecream, with tiny pieces of hard lemon candy, it was thrifty brand from thrifty drug store. They only had it that summer, and never again, so I made my own recipe and chopped lemon head candy,it was really good. Now I just purchased a 4 qt old fashioned style churn( except electric!) so excited to use it, so I will be making your recipe, let you know how it turns out, thank you Robin!
This was wonderful! Maybe the best ice cream ever! I’d hardly used my ice cream maker and was a little nervous, but I followed your recipe and directions exactly and it worked! We had to eat some as soft serve ‘cause we couldn’t wait over night! Thank you 🥳
Hi Robin! Lemon is my favorite flavor! I’m in San Diego and, unfortunately, have never seen lemon ice cream in grocery stores. There are ice cream/custard shops where you can sometimes find it. It’s getting really hot here so I’m definitely going to make your recipe. Love your videos, keep up the great work💖

Hi, I made this with Lime instead of lemon and the result was the way I wanted it to be. Growing up in Thailand we always had lemon ice cream but I couldn’t find it here in America. This recipe is perfect for my childhood memory. Thank you.
Lemon is my favorite flavor of everything. Years ago Blue Bell ice cream used to make a very good lemon ice cream. I wish they still made it. They came out with a lemon flavored ice cream with cookies in it that was not nearly as good and too sweet for my taste. That was before the listeria incident. I don't think think will ever bring back the original lemon unfortunately..
My husband found me some mayfield lemon ice cream at our local united supermarket in amarillo, tx about 4yrs ago and have never seen it anywhere in amarillo again being from ga I grew up on mayfield and finding it in amarillo was great but even more of a surprise
I'm from Mississippi. Back in the mid 70's we had a locally owned ice cream company named Seal~Lily. They had the BEST ice cream and they also had lemon. Lu Vel and Borden also had lemon ice cream. You are correct, though...I never see it any more. I'll have to be on the look out cause I LOVE lemon!

I love everything lemon, pie, cookies, and cake. Many years ago there was a man who had his own ice cream parlor, I was told that he made his own ice cream, lemon was one of them. It was so good, never had any since then, he was in SF where I grew up. My son bought all the ingredients to make ice cream, someone gave him a new ice cream maker that they only used once, he said that it cost much more to make it, then to buy it. So he put it away. You can't buy ice cream like that. It looks like fun though. Thanks for sharing☕️

I think of it as a treat that I don't make often and it's really special. Thanks for watching my video! Also I have a lemon playlist that will continue to grow over time. Can I substitute Half and Half and heavy whipping cream with a mixture of milk and yoghurt? If yes, would it be the same ratio? And for how long the ice cream is good to keep in the freezer? Thanks for the recipe.
Superior Dairy in Canton, Ohio makes incredibly good Lemon Ice Cream. It is smooth, creamy and has no hint of that bitterness one gets from using lemon oil or lemon zest. It is very difficult to find, though, even a few towns away.

Lemon Ice Cream Recipe
Ingredients:
1 ½ cups heavy whipping cream, organic
1 ½ cups half and half, organic
1 cup sugar plus 1 Tbsp.
6 egg yolks
½ tsp. Vanilla extract
½ cup fresh lemon juice, organic, chilled
¼ cup Limoncello liqueur, chilled, optional, can use all lemon juice if desired
Lemon zest from 3 organic lemons
Directions:
Freeze your ice cream insert overnight.

You know what? I've been looking for lemon ice cream for years and all I find is lemon sorbet. When I lived in Europe as a kid I had no problem finding it. Maybe it's not popular enough in the USA so manufacturers decided it wasn't worth producing.
Very nice
