    Inspired by the traditional Sami “yoik,” a very old vocal tradition among the Sami people of Scandinavia and Russia, this beautiful music was used in the Disney animated film "Frozen". Now available in several voicings, all choirs can now enjoy these works that are infused with style and ethnic authenticity that will bring a wonderful and unique sound to your choral concert.

    My choir ended up not doing this, but in practice with 11 tenors and basses all acapella felt like I ascend to Valhalla

    Part of this song is derived from the Christian hymn "Fairest Lord Jesus" also known as "Beautiful Savior."

    Our school choir was going to do it, but quarantine hit. I remember when the director was playing it for us, and everyone's reaction was memorable, because (I didn't know this at the time) it was from Frozen. She explained that this was made before Frozen, without the religious stuff, because, well, it's Disney, there can't be any religion. She told us not to tell our parents, because, as she said, "We don't want emails asking why we're doing Frozen songs"

    Love this piece and am doing it with my middle school choirs right now, but it drives me crazy that the performance clip the publishers are featuring includes incorrect pronunciation. There is a clear pronunciation guide in the front of the piece that instructs all "o" vowels should be pronounced as "oo" like in the word "moon". This choir is singing on "oh" instead of "oo". Wish they'd feature a recording with CORRECT pronunciation!

    • @anjagoller
      @anjagoller 5 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      This version is english, but you can sing it in any language in which the text of the hymn "Fairest Lord Jesus" (Schönster Herr Jesus) exists. This "na na na hei ja na" is just sounds, no specific words.

      Hello, We will be doing this for our Unitarian church--your question of what language sent me to at least read the notes inside front cover, of the Doreen Rao's choral music, Boosey & Hawkes CME edition. Composed by Frode Fjelheim, born in Norway. from a Silesian Folk Melody. (Being a bass, all I need to know is the 'Yoik', I guess--na na na hey na na, etc.) Reminds me vaguely of something, chanting, I sang years ago with the Syracuse Chorale, and Syracuse Symphony--when we asked what does it mean, we were advised....something native-American, probably from an extinct tribe. Just sing it! Good luck!
