This movie is a lot better than it’s 11% rotten tomatoes rating. Inspired by Blake Edwards’ Operation Petticoat (81% RT), it’s main difference is fewer women cast members, and no Cary Grant..
No, I would say the only thing the two movies have in common is that they are set on submarines. That said, 11%? That's nuts! This is a terrific movie. My nephew loves it and he's a submariner.

Yeah, they could have at least finished Sonar's part. He was the MVP of the crew. He knew it was 45 cents dropped and not a dime more, and the only one on that boat capable of impersonating a pair of whales.
@@odysseusrex5908 I did say a pair of whales. And I'm guessing that they might have been able to pick up the sounds created by the tape, possibly static too. Who knows, either way this method is funnier.
I was in my 50's when I first saw it. If I'd been in high school, I would have ignored the navy recruiter who told me not to bother enlisting. He said I'd never pass a physical because I had a lazy eye.

I've never seen this movie but, as a Navy vet, I have to ask: Why is the entire crew showing up for duty in civvies? And why is the CO only a Lieutenant Commander? Aren't boats usually commanded by at least a Commander?
During WW2 and on Diesel boats it was far more common for the CO to be a Lt Cmdr. In navies that still use Diesel subs this is not unheard of even today (in Australia for example the boat's CO is a Lt Cmdr with the XO a Lt). Probably occurs as a result of the small crew needed and thence limited need for higher ranks and potentially tradition.
Back in the Kriegsmarine days (Germany), you were usually commanded by 2½ stripes. later in the war you were commanded by 2 stripes. I do not know the equal rank in the USN.
Glad this was a full scene and not just a clip, otherwise I might have missed the
This was a GREAT little movie.
Kelsey NAILED this role.
yeah he did
Best Navy documentary ever created.
Opertion peticoat?
The sub used in the movie is USS Pampanito. She is a museum in San Diego.
1:00 Oh great, our Chaplain has arrived…
That line always cracked me up. Also hell of a way to introduce a major character.
I've got this movie on DVD and I watch it a lot. I like Kelsey in everything he does.
Still one of my favorite movies.
Same here, and I was a surface warfare sailor!
"That boys absorbed a lot of voltage"
One of the lines from the actual full scene is pertinent, “Sit on it and rotate sir!”.
In 1979 this scene a bit closer to reality than you might imagine.
huuuuuuuuuuuuuhh
One of my work mates was a bubblehead on missile subs. He loves this movie.
FULL SCENE???? I think you don't know what a full scene is.
In porn I do
Zoom in.
@jefffaulkner2875 WHAT?
@@southerngent716 you can zoom in and get your full screen.
@jefffaulkner2875 it's says full SCENE not full SCREEN! Maybe you all should have listened more in school.
"Full Scene" Barely Half the scene.
I watched this 2 months ago, time before when i was a kid. I had no idea rob shneider was in the film
That's Rob for ya, he's just kinda in a movie here, a movie there.
Love this movie

I've been cheated, expecting a full scene and got a snip it.
0:58 I will neither confirm nor deny that I was ever brought back aboard in this fashion.
Seek attention elsewhere.
What with an SP escort

If I throw you off this boat, it’s going to be in the middle of the Atlantic. Board the damn boat. 😂
@@0newingedcrow Not just one whale mind you, a pair of them. I never understood why they couldn't just play some of his recordings.

Pascal played the part excellently.
Should use this movie for recruiting submariners, LoL.
They play bits of it in BESS actually haha

This is a really good one ,
Old but still fresh! That's my dirty pleasure. I love to see this one time on year or more, because still makes me funny.
Just watched the film, TY it was great fun to watch.
You come with a volume control pascal?
Excuse me sir.
love this movie:)
I love this movie!
I did root for Frasier Crane
Full scene? Full of what?
The tech is all wrong but damn did they get the human side of sub life right.
This was an old WW2 sub pulled out for a wargame.

In what realm do you call this a "Full Scene"?
Hilarious movie
The film itself is great. This clipped version is pants.
Harland Williams is in this I think
