    Spike Lee was the first of a new wave of black directors who later joined him that made black conscious or dominated films that became the trend in the 90s. So even if the film wasn't political there be some form of conscious message in the film. Spike Lee was very specific with his films until he wandered off making mainstream hollywood stuff for a bit before he came back to do more black centred films.

      Collected more money and went right back to making black films 👏🏾

    Growing up with the 80s and 90's hip hop culture Spike was an icon and Malcolm X for me as a Dutch/Moluccan person is maybe the best movie ever.

    This movie most literally and single handedly changed my life! I've watched it hundreds of times growing up but I had not yet developed the understanding of it until I reached a certain age and certain point in my life where I needed it the most and this film made everything clear for me for the very first time, seeing from a brand new perspective on life and values, been on a journey ever since.

    The dance numbers in this film especially the one in Malcolm's gangster days is a tribute to the black film industry of the 1940s. They were films made by black directors or black productions and released by a few black owned movie studios that was a rival to hollywood. A lot of those films had a dance jazz number in a jazz club. Oscar Micheaux is the most known of the black directors making these films. The mainstream calls these movies race films and try to underplay their status and what they really represented, that they weren't independent from hollywood but that they existed before hollywood became a thing and starte makig black films which is why i call it a rival to hollywood and refer to it as the black film industry because it was its own thing controlled by us and no stereotypes. But like anything black owned it didnt last and got shut down in the early 1950s when integration was approaching .

    He should've won the oscar for this, just check and see what he did win for. Compare and you'll see why. Amazing film, performance and direction. Salute...

    This movie or Do the Right Thing should have been an Oscar winning moment for Spike Lee. Hate that it wasn’t. Also should have been an Oscar winning moment for Denzel too.

    SUBSCRIBED IMMEDIATELY! 👏🏾FINALLY, someone reacts to Malcolm X! This is Spike Lee's Greatest Masterpiece and Denzel Washington's best performance. Denzel was nominated for an Academy Award for Best Actor for his powerful potrayal of Malcolm X, but he lost.🙄 His loss is still controversial today because everyone agrees Denzel literally became Malcolm X. 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥

    A monolithic film. The fact that only four people have reacted to it on youtube, is saddening. The fact that Denzel didn't get an Oscar for it is beyond garbage. But hey, it's power remains regardless.

    1:41 Believe it or not, it was "in" for OUR top celebrities to make art "for the people" in the late 1980's and early 1990's. I would include albums by Prince "Sign Of The Times", Janet Jackson "Rhythm Nation", Michael Jackson "Dangerous", John Singleton movie "Boyz N a Hood", Bill Cosby TV Shows "Different World" and "The Cosby Show", and many of the popular rap acts popular songs. Yes 🤣 that's not a typo, many of the popular rap acts made their art "for the people" back then. The first and only song N.W.A.s Ice Cube, Dr. Dre, and Eazy E could get on the radio in 1989 was a "for the people" song called, "Express Yourself". BTW 16:47 Yes actor Delroy Lindo was in "This Christmas", "Romeo Must Die", "Crooklyn", "Clockers" and the sleeper critically acclaimed "The Cider House Rules", 17:42 the actress is Theresa Randle of "The 5 Hearbeats", 1996"Space Jam", and "Bad Boys 1-3". Unfortunately she was re-cast for health reasons for Bad Boys 4.

    Malcolm X was a great orator . His elocution and diction were perfect .
    He was clinical and precise . His mind was a steel trap . But his akhlaq ( manners ) were excellent . At the end of the day he would be nothing with Islam .

      It’s crazy that young people today don’t know their Black history. I’ve worked in the film industry for 25 years all because i saw Spike Lee directing movies as a Black man when i was a teenager. He was my inspiration for a kid like me during a time when Filmmaking wasn’t an option as a career for a Black kid.

    • @im_a_Fann
      @im_a_Fann  4 หลายเดือนก่อน +3

      @travisbickle1552 We each get around to it in due time. The majority of us have to find it on our own. Stop demeaning the younger generation; instead, uplift them and introduce them to the knowledge.

    • @travisbickle1552
      @travisbickle1552 4 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      @@im_a_Fann It’s the attitude of the younger generation that’s bothersome. There is a lack of desire to learn your history that is offensive. I hear to often “They didn’t teach us this in school.” Educate YOURSELF. Library cards are free. The internet has opened up a world of info at your fingertips. This isn’t an attack on you or meant to demean anyone. It’s a call to action to young Black people. That’s it.

    The one movie Spike made that should've had 2 or 3 parts. Reading the book was fascinating especially when reading the beginning about his Mom/Dad family tree. This budget should've been over 100M. But just a thought, still a movie I appreciate from Spike. The one film all black people should watch from Spike is "Bamboozled".

      I agree. Malcolm X's 1965 Autobiography by Alex Haley taught me about Malcolm's sister Ella Collins. I guess the movie time ran too long for Spike to include Ella. That was a lost opportunity. The 1994 PBS Documentary" Malcolm X - Make It Plain" (available on TH-cam as of the time of this post), and the 2024 Hulu doc "Genius: MLK/X" did a nice job of including Ella. She was a HUGE influence on Malcolm X aka el-Hajj Malik el-Shabazz. HUGE.💯

    Spike Lee’s first 4-5 movies are must watch for Black people. It’s hard to believe you don’t know Spike Lee’s platform. Also, first time watching your channel, do you eat in all your videos? It’s just not appealing watching someone eat.

      I knew of him when I was younger but never cared to watch his movies. Sometimes I eat, and most of the time I do my hair. I do what I want on my channel. Thank you for watching 👍🏾
