This season came out sadly during the fucking Game of Thrones Hype so they won most of the awards. and not for their best seasons either! It's just whenever GOT had a year run, they were automatically getting an Emmy that sadly should have gone to other shows.
The conversation betwen Ragnar and the seer is some briliant dialogue, and some of it was left out in the censored version, as well as some of the dialogue of last episode or on episode 12 when Ragnar tells Bjorn he was proud of him. Really stupid decision, glad you watched this version. We told you that Ragnar is one of the best characters on tv and i think you agree at this point. Him and Walter White were in my opinion some of the best. I haven't cried in a series more than in this one, so happy you watch and enjoy it. And there's more to come, even if we lost a huge character.
Fun fact: Ragnar was supposed to die in like season 2 if I remember correctly(as the show was supposed to be about the Sons of Ragnar) but Travis Fimmel's acting was so good it literally kept the character alive. As for the wrath of Ivar the Boneless....I would not want to be on the receiving end of that. The real Ivar was absolutely brutal and ruthless.
I love when the showrunners recognize the strength of the performance or the character. In Breaking Bad, Jesse was supposed to die in S1 too but Aaron Paul was so stellar they went with him all the way.
That's historically how the real Ragnar died , in the snake pit. Also ,the sons have a lot of fame so don't search them on wikipedia you will get spoiled.
Ragnar can say what he likes, but he's down to one shining blue eye, just like Odin. 'Odin gave his eye for knowledge....' So many great touches in this show.
Bjorn=Raw Strength and adventure side of Ragnar Ivar= Ruthless, violent, strategical and resourceful side of Ragnar Ubbe= Compassionate, human and delicate side of Ragnar Hviserk= Doubtful, torn and conflicted side of Ragnar Sigurd= Ragnar's Bullshit.....(No i'm kidding lmao)...More like the arrogant, mocking side of Ragnar
That last scene and a couple you see next episode are references to what the sagas say about Ragnar's son's reactions on hearing of his death. Supposedly Sigurð was sharpening a knife and cut himself without feeling pain, Bjǫrn was sharpening a spear and accidentally snapped the shaft in his rage while Hvitserk was playing Hnefatafl (a viking board game similar to chess or draughts) and squeezed the piece he was holding so hard blood ran from his hand. However Ivár was the one who mastered his pain/rage and asked about his father's death, an early sign of the tactical mind and clear thought which would become one of his greatest assets
OMG this EP is awesome! it's the best and the worst for being so sad! Ragnar rocking the speech once more! this one is so iconic that I already know it by heart! Best character EVER ❤️⚔️❤️

Fun Fact: The actor who portrays Ragnar actually wanted the scene to be as close to realistic to the actual historical records of Ragnar's death. So he gave the same speech as the real Ragnar gave and he did have real snakes bite him.
@@kyuujinreacts yeah, definitely. When I found that out, I was like, "damn, he's got some large ones and he must have some Viking in his blood" lol I'm actually curious to know what his (the actor's) lineage is.
@Pratik Smith Yes. And in regards to the snake pit, the actor portraying Ragnar (Travis Fimmel) had this to say: "There were about 60 of them and then there were fake ones around my legs,” Fimmel told THR. “I was covered in snake poop at the end. I got bit a few times but that was fine - it was them pooping on me that annoyed me more than anything.” Also, in another interview, it was also stated that they also added a few snake bites with camera trickery for added effect. But yes, Ragnar did get bit by real snakes. Great reaction/discussion and I remember this episode I was in denial and after it i remember being in doubt if Ivar could keep me excited and be a big character going forward and the actor and character surprised me and became my favourite in the future episodes definitely lives up to the hype and ruthlessness to put it lightly this season 4b is probably one of the tamest versions of Ivar not seen the true ruthless and sadistic side just yet.
This is the halfway point of the show, episode 44 of 89 (S1 only had 9 eps, otherwise it would have been a perfect 45/90). This is how Ragnar really died too, thrown into a snake pit by King Aelle. "How the little piggies will grunt when they hear how the old boar suffers" is a quote from the sagas and was supposedly his last words or something he said before dying. Einar Selvig and Wardruna's music continues to elevate this show, especially the special songs they make for important scenes. In the sagas, there's a poem where Ragnar is describing his own death as it happens (and includes the little piggies line) and the song that was playing during the snake pit scene actually uses that original Norse poem as the lyrics. The upcoming moments are taken from real history too - this is a major part of Viking and English history. Ragnar started the Viking age when he raided Lindesfarne monastery, but it was his death and the rise of his sons that really took the Viking age to the next level. Half of the conversation between Ragnar and the seer was cut for time from the History channel version, including the stuff about Lagertha. Keep watching the uncensored version, there's more important dialogue missing from the censored version in upcoming episodes. Ivar squeezing the game piece in anger until he bled was taken from history/legends too. One of the reasons this show foreshadows so well is because the history is known - they make adjustments but follow the main events, so there's no need to try to fool the audience with absurd plot twists like many other shows. It's not about what happens, but how and why it happens and the journey there. Aelle swore to kill Ragnar, Lagertha swore to kill Kalf, Ecbert swore to take over the other English kingdoms, Rollo swore to defend Paris, etc. This show doesn't try to outmaneuver the audience, and doesn't just make things up as it goes along while forgetting what happened before. That's a benefit of not having a writer's room with a rotating staff and instead having a single author write every word of the entire show. And by the way, Vikings broke the record, the showrunner Michael Hirst is the only person to single-handedly write a show of this many episodes, but quite a margin. There's never been any other show of this length created this way. In a lot of ways, Vikings is less of a TV show, and more of a book, just presented in cinema.
Great reaction and perfect after thoughts. I totally had the Braveheart vibe as well. Especially seeing Ecbert in a robe watching him. Someone actually just gave me a special edition Braveheart Blu-ray the other day. I think I should watch it after this!

Travis Fimmel went all out on this episode. He rewrote Ragnar's final speech to make it even better than in the script, and really did a good job "acting while actually acting" in character - you can tell Ragnar is performing and doesn't actually believe what he's saying in that final speech to the crowd. Most impressively, Travis wanted the snake pit to look as real as possible - that's not CGI, those are real snakes biting him! They milked the snakes of all their venom and actually let them bite Travis over and over in the pit, he suffered bites and injuries all over his body shooting that scene. You can actually go back and compare it to the CGI snake bites in the season 1 snake pit and see the difference.
Omg, really?? O.O if it's true, I'm guessing it was his idea or something (or production on Vikings is intense 😅) but he nailed that character!! That's for sure!!
Some fans felt like the show ended with Ragnars death. Originally he was to play a small part in a story about vikings, but due to his popularity with fans, it became more "his" story! And he will live on througgh his sons!
It's definitely sad to see him go, but I'm actually interested in what they'll do with the sons next! It's pretty bold to kill what essentially became the main character o.o
Eckbert's motivation was not personal greed so much as trying to turn little Wessex into a proper country. Except for this show and a couple of Christmas carols, who ever heard of Wessex?
Ragnar deserved his fate, you don't invade another kingdom and don't think judgment day won't come for you. And King Alle got what was coming to him for his arrogance.
In a show about religion, where two religions are portrayed equally, Ragnar's story arc of looking past both religions and becoming atheist was really well done. He's the one who looks to people while everyone else looks to the Norse gods or the Christian God. Just because the supernatural appears real in this show doesn't mean it's real - it's presented in a mythological way, shown to the audience as the characters think is happening or how the legends tell in the sagas, but it doesn't mean that what you are shown is actually what's happening. The show leaves an alternative explanation for everything. Athelstan seeing gnashing teeth and demons under his bed while freaking out - probably just a rat. He saw the virgin Mary, but it was just the woman he saved (sometimes they show the alternative, sometimes they don't). Harbard seeming like he has powers - or he's just good with people and babies and is a womanizing con man who shows up to take advantage of the men being gone (there's actually more to that effect you missed in the censored version, where they make it clear that he's intentionally coming when the warriors are gone). And so on. If you want to believe in the supernatural, you can just believe what you are being shown, from the character's perspective, or you can come up with the logical explanation. The seer is the same - he's basically a pscyhic/fortune teller/soothsayer/etc. and uses all the tricks that modern psychics use. He lives there, he knows the people, he's a smart guy, he knows what to say and how to say it and how to make predictions in a way that can never go wrong for him. He knows Ragnar wants sons, he knows Lagertha has been trying and failing to have more children for a long time, he knows Rollo wants to get out from his brother's shadow and just lacks the confidence, he knows Jarl Borg messed up bigtime by invading Ragnar's lands, he knows Lagertha and Aslaug well enough that if one of them is to ever be queen of Kattegat, it's obviously not Aslaug, he knows Ragnar is important enough to die surrounded by people and anyone could be interpreted as a "blind man". In fact, even in this episode, you can take things both ways (religious or logical) - the real blind man saw Ragnar a few days before his death, and the prophecy was specifically "you will die on the day the blind man sees you" so you can agree with Ragnar that seer was wrong. But if you have faith, like Lagertha, Floki, Rollo, etc. you can do exactly what Ragnar said: be presented with a destiny by the seer and then manifest it, find a way to make it true. So if you think like that, you can say that Ecbert was the blind man, because he doesn't see Ragnar's revenge plan, and he saw Ragnar as he was dying. Or you could say Aelle was the blind man, because he was blinded by his arrogance and didn't consider the consequences of killing Ragnar. Anyone can be blind, that's the brilliance of the seer, and Ragnar is the only one there who understands what is happening - like he said, the seer's words can be interpreted in so many ways that they have no real meaning. Ragnar has been trying to control his own destiny the entire show, so it's satisfying to see that he finally did it. It's also a smart way to bring some depth to Ragnar's death, could never be a surprise since it's part of history. If you can't make the death a surprise, then you can at least give it a proper reason beyond just "well that's how it happened in history".
Can I follow you? I'm actually at this point of the show!. And lord I'm so fucking angry and heart broken . 😭I never knew of this show 🤦. You guys have ever Been made to question things? I'm Hispanic and Samoan . 2 different beliefs were tried to be forced upon me. But there to me it has been just one higher power to believe to me I can't say the other 2 cause I don't want to cause problems . I just believe in to be good and humane to others and that's it.
You sure can!! :D the rest of the show just gets more and more intense, honestly, but the whole journey is worth it n.n We've been lucky in the way that we were never put in a situation where our beliefs were challenged or we were seriously forced to follow along with someone else's beliefs. That allowed us to keep an open mind when it comes to religion and yeah, vikings led us to discuss this several times for sure
My Hispanic parents are evangelists and my Samoan family is Catholics 🤦 but how I wish I was from seeing all of Ragnar a viking following my higher power to Valhalla.ill follow

Yes n.n
I think you have a video in your ads
That IS a lot 😅 I never really know how many ads youtube is gonna put in my videos, I have the setting on auto 🤷 this one is a bit ridiculous
@@kyuujinreacts Haha yeah! But other than that, love your reactions! Thank you 😁
Can I follow you? I'm actually at this point of the show!. And lord I'm so fucking angry and heart broken . 😭I never knew of this show 🤦. You guys have ever Been made to question things? I'm Hispanic and Samoan . 2 different beliefs were tried to be forced upon me. But there to me it has been just one higher power to believe to me I can't say the other 2 cause I don't want to cause problems . I just believe in to be good and humane to others and that's it.
You sure can!! :D the rest of the show just gets more and more intense, honestly, but the whole journey is worth it n.n
We've been lucky in the way that we were never put in a situation where our beliefs were challenged or we were seriously forced to follow along with someone else's beliefs. That allowed us to keep an open mind when it comes to religion and yeah, vikings led us to discuss this several times for sure
@@kyuujinreacts thank you but I meant it when Ragnar loved Athelstan.
My Hispanic parents are evangelists and my Samoan family is Catholics 🤦 but how I wish I was from seeing all of Ragnar a viking following my higher power to Valhalla.ill follow
Why so many expectations at Ivar? He is just a psychotic and angry teenager, nothing more ... He is not Ragnar's legacy 🤷. Calm down girls!
I don't know, they sure seemed to be underlining things between Ragnar and Ivar and I feel like they've hyped just how intense Ivar is gonna become
@@kyuujinreacts Ragnar was smart and good in his own way. This boy is a psychopath who moves with anger. They are very different people with different visions and values of life. Until the next video girls. 😉
he is...and you are just a hater lol
@@Droidd1993 "Hater"? What a comment and qualification more childish. I only expressed what the character really is (except for the strategic, he is the antithesis of Ragnar). Equally each one with his opinion. Bye.
