I am glad you did not try this on your pet mice. It would probably give them a heart attack! Although this one is a riot, I think the bucket design is just as effective and FAR cheaper!
There's about $3 worth of electronics in that and they're selling it for 250 bucks? That is highway robbery. I may have to design an open source one with 3D printed parts and schematics just to set them straight.
Should be able to do it with easily available parts and pieces, like just using the hose itself with bait inside the hose, just add motion detector and timer.
that would be awesome. If this price was around $99, which is still a lot for this application, I would probably not hesitate to purchase. But at $250, that's a bit harder to sell.
It's not how it works in business. I used to repair TVs and would charge $60 for replacing a $0.02 resistor. It was the hours spent to find it, plus the knowledge that cost so much more.
Sensor is less than a buck. The power relay thing looks like a modified stock product... let's be generous and call it $20. Custom plastic injection molding is expensive, but in quantity they could get that down to a reasonable level (for example that commercial bucket trap Sean helped design was custom plastic and wasn't terribly expensive). No way this should be anywhere near $250. I'd say $60 would be a reasonable number.
Vacuum is mass consume product made in an OEM factory that is optimized for that and produce tons of them. The other item is more like a small production batch .... In short numbers everything gets expensive.
Because there’s a sucker born every minute 😂. I’m sure they have their own version of “gloves, Shaun…” who imagine a parasocial relationship that doesn’t exist, but will spend hundreds of dollars proving to themselves that it does.
Value is not just on a tag. You must also account for your time spent re-setting $3 traps, and the risk of touching the deceased with the cheap traps. Water in a bucket with no crushed bones and blood splatter / popped eyeballs juice to clean up... valuable imo.
Thanks for the new trap Sean! I'm glad didn't let go of the vermin this time around. My neighbours grand kids emptys my water traps in the woods for other animals. I have 6 of your bucket traps , 50 peanutbutter/ baking soda bait stations and a few more modified traps the kids invented. So far so good as I haven't seen anything in my house.
I LOVE those guys! Been following them for a long long time. I built one of those things myself, before I realized they were actually selling them. Cheap motion sensor from Harbor Freight, a couple simple relays and a vac. Works well. Likely not as well as that one though. I don't have the rat experience Jim and Dave have, and definitely don't have their skills (and I can't do The Rat Dance)...
Professional pest control tech here. This is neat but its applications are gonna be limited by the noise and expense. Also, bro, the amount of rodent activity you have on your property is certainly concerning. I love your content, keep it up.
@@GregObpar To make even this simple trap you need to pay for molds, inyection, setup. In small quantities is painfull and expensive. It is not a mass consumer product on the order of 200.000 or above 1.000.000. The price is probably due to small production runs. And of course, the profit, for sure.
@Globss I do understand that, I'm a fan of LTT, and Linus talks about this extensively, but 250 bucks seems to be a massive markup, even considering that.
👍🏻Shawn really charging ahead with his inventions and his friends. Very cool. I saw these twin pest control guys on the Minkman channel a while back. Great guys , fellow pest experts and funny👍🏻
For $350 (without the actual vaccuum) I'd say this is meant for commercial farming or people who make a kot of money. I definitely dont see where the cost comes from. It's a very basic tool. You could probably make one for a tiny fraction of what this costs. Its neat, but novelty for the average consumer.
Shawn, it was very nice meeting you this weekend in Nevada. We love your page. We wish you luck in all of your endeavors. Do you have any pages on hunting? We love to see more. Patty and Jimmy
Is this a very special vacuum cleaner? Because 6.5 hp are about 4.8 kW. Here our vacuum cleaners have 1.2kW to 2kW and they have a lot of suction already.
The mice in my house would not fall for this one. My mice would need to be motivated to walk into a $250 dark tube. If they are not starving (likely), they would run past it on their well-known path to a reliable food source outside the house. My smartest mouse, Speedy, would stop only long enough to give me the finger while laughing at me via my mouse-cam. Is this product from Acme? Wile E. might buy it.
Oh wow, that’s cool! I didn’t realize that they were still getting away with false advertising, but that vacuum cleaner motor outputs 1 to 1-1/2 hp driving the impeller. Not 6-1/2, not ever.

Why does the small attachment cost twice as much as the vacuum that powers it?
Because it has a sensor and power relay?
