Join me on the new Delta One suites, onboard their Airbus A330-900 Neo. In todays straight to the point and honest review I’ll be checking out the ground service such as the Delta Sky Club lounge at New York’s JFK airport. I’ll be showcasing the suites, my recommendation on which one to go for, but also (and unfortunately) showing just how filthy this plane is today. As with all my trip reports, we’ll look at the inflight food service, bedding (and initial lack of) and I’ll give my overall recommendation on whether you should fly this.
Sadly I did find this a disappointing flight given the focus Delta places on cleanliness, just for it to fall significantly short. Please improve Delta, because your hard product is great (albeit a little tight on the A339) and food has returned to one of the better USA offerings.
As always though, let me know what you thought to this experience below? Would you fly Delta One Suites? Have you flown these suites before on the Boeing 767 or Airbus A350, or indeed this very aircraft, the A330-900 Neo?

As I always travel in economy, I rarely have these disappointments, simply as my expectations are only that I won't die in an air disaster.

It happens. A lot of airports right now just don’t have the staff. I work for another airline, and in my base these days, we are always late pushing out and pulling in to a gate. Not enough ramp agents. Security and cleaning also take forever because there aren’t enough agents right now, especially night crew. People just don’t understand the severity of the situation. I flew a plane recently with no potable water. Our plane sat for 24 hours at a station, but staff is short and they never made it to our plane. It is what it is.

Being from Singapore and how highly coveted SQ is, I think DL has a lot more common sense in their service department than rigid SQ service team that is by the book all the time despite having PPS… of course there are better airlines out there but if you’re based in the US, it doesn’t make sense to fly United or AA in my experience. The issue with the spiraling down of customer service and fleet care with all US travel companies is that they really do not care, never did and never will. As long as they sell tickets and are able to meet their profit margin, they are happy. But fleets that are operated out of US, like the name brand Middle Eastern and European flights, simply enjoy competing to satisfy their customer, the American culture of "I don't care", "who cares", "it's not my problem" and "who give a s$#t", has extended into the American business models for as long as their company meet their profit margins.

    • @ChaosBarnaby
      @ChaosBarnaby 2 ปีที่แล้ว +16

I think it may have more to do with the fact that 3 airlines monopolize most of the US market so they don’t have to compete. Whereas European and Middle eastern airlines have lots of competitors so they’re forced to be better. What we need is lawmakers with the balls to break up monopolies.

Just pick up garbage and vacuum. And of course take out trash. But people would always shortcut everything, especially with how quick we have to be so we don’t risk a delay. A couple months ago, some of the executives came to our station and basically told us to F Off about giving us better benefits and told us and I quote, “If you’re in this to make money, you’re in the wrong business.” Well I’m in this to help my career in becoming a pilot but thanks for showing your true colors. The last time I flew delta (coach) was such a disappointment I have never flown with them again over the last 12 years.
Flying from the US to France for a 14 day trip, I arrived in France and was informed my only suitcase I had brought was left back in the US by mistake. I was told it would arrive in France following day but I would need to come back to the airport pick it up. After explaining that I had absolutely nothing else to wear or any toiletries they offered me a small toiletry bag that had the bare minimum (toothbrush, toothpaste, shampoo and conditioner) which included a white t-shirt with the delta logo which was so thin that my man nips were on display for all to see. After 4 full days without my suitcase, it was finally located and brought to where I was staying. I was relieved and excited to have my warm clothes at last as it was November and not warm. Again delta did not fail to disappoint when I discovered several items (gloves, phone charger, hat, and a couple other new items I had purchased for the trip were missing. I was told by delta that the only thing they could do was provide me the web address to file a claim/complaint.
I figured nothelse could go wrong until I was on the flight home. They ran out of food at dinner with about 4 rows of people left. They did apologize but said our only option was to purchase food they had for sale or they could give us more of the free snack bags they hand out with the drink service.
That is the last time I will give them my business.

From the 1980s to the early 2000s, I was a Delta fan. They weren't as good as American back then (domestic US travel), but they were wicked close. Now, I wouldn't fly Delta unless I absolutely had to, and even then I might look into driving. Sad that I feel this way, but the US airline industry (United, American, Delta) don't really seem to focus on delivering a good/great experience for the customer anymore. Guess who's paying the bills? Right....anyways. Now I usually fly JetBlue, Alaska Airlines or Southwest. Or like I said...I'll drive if I have the time. Thank you for the wonderful review glad to see I’m not the only one who has noticed especially recently how dirty some of deltas planes are. Like you I am a Delta platinum member. I typically fly first class domestic and business or a first class product for international flights I’ve also flown many other airlines and had some absolutely amazing experiences. One of my best experiences was Asiana both to South Korea and to Australia. Both of those flights were pre-2020. The planes were exceptionally clean and the service was amazing. But I bought a many delta flights especially in the last two years and been a palled at how dirty they were not let me be clear I’m a nurse married to a doctor I am not going to get into the ins and outs of Covid everybody has their opinions these days and everybody thinks they’re an expert but I definitely find it interesting that we are required to wear masks and they hand you a little sanitizing packets but yet they can’t simply keep the planes clean which One would expect no matter what is going on in the world to get on a plane and for the seat and tray table to simply be clean just like when I go to a restaurant or eat in the food court at the mall I expect the tables to be wiped in the restrooms to be clean and they are not it seems like we’re spending a lot of time these days preaching at people to wear a mask social distance alcohol your hands till they are Rall but we can’t do things that make much more logical sense like keeping bathrooms clean wiping things down between different parties things that really do make a difference in spreading germs but they also make experience in the world simply nice. I have to say most of the time I’ve had good experiences with the Delta crews I’ve had a lot worse experiences with American Airlines and I’m a gold member there. But I certainly had my share of snippy cruise especially when I’m flying with my children primarily my youngest one who seems to be ignored in the first class cabins now I know just like with Covid everybody has their opinions on whether children should fly first class or not let me be clear no parent is perfect and no child is perfect but mine have traveled the world since birth so they’re very used to being out in public and know how to behave I’ve had many passengers complement me on how well behaved they were I don’t allow them to get out of their seat with the exception of needing to use the restroom I’ve never had a baby cry I’ve never changed a dirty diaper or others are exposed to it and I’ve literally flown for 7 hours with my youngest and she’s never moved from her seat. (with the exception of me taking her to the bathroom one time she was still wearing a diaper then and if I had not picked her up and said let’s go wash up and check your diaper she would not have even flinched she slept most of the way) so with my disclaimer stated it’s very frustrating when I’ve boarded planes and I’ll take drink and food orders and completely ignore her my older kids usually don’t have a problem these days but experience the same when they were younger I like I said I’m not a perfect parent and they are not perfect children but I do believe children can be a nice restaurants Fly on premium products when parents first and foremost know their children’s habits and know how to set them up for success and also parent them meaning that that’s not the time to enjoy the luxury product if you’re going to take your child along you have to be actively engaging in the parenting duties not sleeping drinking etc. so although most of the time I have experienced that particular situation on American Airlines I have had a Delta crewmember or two that I was severely disappointed in the lack of service equally to all paying passengers. Anyways glad to see I’m not the only one who has noticed things have not been clean like I said not to get into the back-and-forth as to whether we should or shouldn’t be doing certain Covid mitigation strategies or whether they work it just makes me frustrated and chuckle that we are doing certain things things that I think whether you agree or don’t agree most of us can agree with the fact that they’re not all enjoyable and yet despite that they can’t do their simple part of keeping the plane clean and they’re still charging high premiums they’ve taken away services although Delta has brought most of them back (i’ve still noticed a lack of things like blankets on shorter flights in standard first class) I just feel like if they expect us to do certain things they could at least wipe the planes down now I understand there is very little time between turnover although not in this case the plane was on the ground for 24 hours but many times you literally watch passengers get off in a few minutes later you’re boarding. I certainly don’t know what the answer is but I do know that I’d like to stop doing certain things if they can’t keep the planes clean that’s just my opinion I’m sure many will have a different comment on it hopefully my disclaimer will prevent it turning into a back-and-forth this was not meant to be a Covid discussion just simply a statement that if we are supposed to do certain things they should keep their end of the bargain up and keep things clean (although they should probably do that regardless). Thanks for the really nice review. Sorry it wasn’t the best flight.

The airline industry in the US has always been behind in most facets of the entire flight experience. They have not caught with the premium airlines.

I reckon the big question which is not covered in this particular video is any response from Delta; either at the time of posting or later. Should be most embarrassing for Delta, seeing as they push their ‘Cleanliness’ and ‘Covid-care’ in their recorded flight information. Or is it a possibility that the ‘Cleaning’ routines are done by people who just want to get through their days without any worry as to the consequences of their ‘slap-dash’ approach to their jobs; and a complete lack of scrutiny from the management?

How about shitty pay and work benefits ??
... how quick you are to judge the workers. No doubt it will be a cost cutting effect by the airline company ... reduced cleaning crew hours to save money.
The cleanliness was non-existent. A sticky floor in the washroom near the toilet can only mean urine on the floor ffs
I can almost guarantee it is penny pinching by the company and labour stretched thin as wages are slashed ...

It certainly looks to me as an airport ops employee that the aircraft actually wasn't cleaned at all after previous sector. There are 3 stages of aircraft cleaning - gashing (stripping cabin rubbish, emptying bins etc) , disinfecting/surface wiping and finally dressing the soft goods like blankets, headrest covers, vacuuming and toilet amenities (all three steps lacking today). My gut feeling is that the only way this can happen is a rego change to a spare aircraft on a long layover or ex hangar maintenance without physically checking the aircraft after the aircraft was swapped. The multiple step failure at Delta JFK is that Gate staff should have checked when they applied the aerobridge and advised ops and then the Cabin crew should also have done a visual cabin inspection as they walked on, and told ground ops it wasn't cleaned at all. Put it this way, even if it was discovered last minute before boarding that flight should have been delayed to accommodate a clean. Even a so-called "quick clean" (less thorough) would have made it superficially much better than that. I would have complained to crew as soon as I got onboard and noticed that pigsty. The photographic/filmed evidence would be a written/email complaint to Customer Relations/Media demanding some form of compensation in form of voucher or upgrade certificate.

My thoughts ( though not as technical as I don't work in this field) were similar. Someone dropped the ball. I have flown Delta and have always had an excellent experience, and never experienced a dirty cabin. The restroom however? I have always made a point of either trying NOT to use it, or going early in the flight as possible. Otherwise, I bring my cleaning wipes in with me , and I don't care what anyone says. I have, however, done that after my 1st flight ✈️ in '89 on a United flight to Orlando. 🙂

I've flown into Seattle a few times. Once during a storm. There was lightning all around then the lights of the city came into view. It was stunning. I can't believe the filth! That would totally freak me out. Ick.

9:28 - That meal costs Delta about $12.50 and it's "priced" into your ticket at $117.50. Enjoy!

Pathetic that Delta - which identifies itself as "premium" - won't properly clean their aircraft before and throughout flight. Lazy sky Karens.
