    That nurses are saying “all nurses regularly make mistakes we shouldn’t be charged” is an L. There’s a difference between a mistake and just straight up ignorance.. how tf you mistakenly give a patient a dose of a bottle that had warning written all over it…

      I think what they are saying is that accidental death is part of the job. In the US alone 250,000 people die annually just from medical mistakes. I think they’re just worried that if you can be put in jail for an accidental death then what’s to stop them from arresting someone for death because of surgery

    • @DaeCod

      Mistakes do happen really often but you’re right. Especially if the bottle literally tells you it’s a paralyzing agent. Those are hardly ever given except under surgeries… the nurse should’ve known she pulled the wrong medication before giving it.

      It’s like a double edged sword. I work with nurses everyday, I work in a cancer research lab. Nurses do make mistakes but when it results in someone’s life it’s like they’re not allowed to make mistakes and that sucks but it comes with the job. @elithevibe5441 2 ปีที่แล้ว +90

    The nurse does deserve what she is getting. There was a CLEAR LABEL stating that it was a PARALYZING AGENT that she should be able to READ AT HER AGE. Also as a nurse dealing with HUMAN LIVES you should not be allowing yourself to become "distracted" while doing something that allows no room for mistakes. The fact that people are saying "everyone makes mistakes" is sickening, as they are acting like she just knocked over and broke a cup or forgot to go to an appointment or something, which is an actual mistake. What occurred here was an irresponsible fatality caused by her negligence combined with her apparently awful attention span, and that distraction better have been crazy for her to end up killing someone like that...

    That last story has me absolutely livid. It's people like them that make so many lose trust and hope in our doctors and healthcare professionals. It's makes me so sad to see that woman cry about her mother dying at the hands of a doctor who was 100% responsible for her life. There are no mistakes in this field, only fatal actions. It's not just a mistake to purposely drink or text while driving and hit someone, "oopsies 😅 I was watching 👀 TikTok📺, didn't mean to hit and kill them 🥺🥺". So why isn't this the same to them??

      Im literally thinking while watching this what would you think if you saw your close family member basically get killed when it came down to the actions of a nurse giving them medication that can literally take their life. It wouldnt be nearly as bad if it didnt have THE NAME AND THE WARNING ON THE MEDICATION. How do you make that kind of mistake? You dont check the medication you are giving to a patient? That is like one of the most crucial steps out of anything you do in the healthcare field because its literally MEDICATION. The fact that nurses are lining up supporting this woman is pathetic in its own standards. You are telling me that while knowing how important your occupation is it is fine to make a detrimental “mistake” like that which took a life and be forgiven for it when you literally had to bypass all safety precautions by not taking note of the specific medication you are about to administer or noticing the prominent warning on the medication. How can you be qualified to do anything like this when you dont even bother to check every medication you are about to give a patient?

    If your mistake costs someone else's life, then there is no excuse for this. She had to go to school or a nursing program and within that time, she was taught all the medical procedures so cases like these are preventable. She must've been snoozing in some lessons because that drug she given to the deceased was written in bold, white letters on a red cap so how could she have missed the warning? I’m a nurse. We make errors ALL THE TIME. So do doctors, pharmacists, etc. It usually doesn’t result in a patient dying. In that last case, I can see both arguments… the nurse speaking about liability and no one wanting to enter the field if we are criminally tried is very true: many get scared off the profession because if you fuck up, you can kill someone. I disagree that she shouldn’t be tried however. Her mistake ended up in a patient death… something has to be done. There are steps in place to prevent medication errors from happening and she would have to have been very distracted in order to fail at every check. If that bottle was the one she really drew from and said “CAUTION PARALYZING AGENT” she should have immediately stopped what she was doing and double checked the order for the medication. I don’t know how she should be prosecuted or if she will be at all, but she’ll likely lose her license regardless.
    One last point I wanna add is that medication errors are usually the fault of more than one person. The doctor has to prescribe the correct med in the correct dose, the pharmacy has to fill that medication correctly, and the nurse has to check to medication multiple times prior to administering it. If all those other checks were validated and she simply just gave the wrong medication without checking, she is at fault.

    • @DaeCod
      @DaeCod 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      So I looked into this some more: in my opinion she is definitely at fault for the error, however, I don’t believe she should have been found guilty in a CRIMINAL case. Most med errors, even those resulting in fatalities, are handled in the civil courts, which I believe they should be. She has lost her license already and admitted to the error as soon as she became aware of it. I truly think she had a lapse in judgement and it unfortunately led to a fatality. I hope this case doesn’t lead to more criminal charges being placed on nurses and doctors for mistakes, because as someone entering the field I’d likely switch careers to avoid possible jail time as the result of my job.
      Tl;dr: I think she is at fault and was right to have her license revoked and face civil charges. I don’t think she should have faced or been prosecuted for manslaughter in a criminal court. I hope her verdict is overturned because this simple mistake can happen to any nurse or doctor.

A nurse accidentally kills one patient due to medication labeling being similar, and she gets prison time. Yes, its a life, and incredibly tragic, but the nurse herself was also traumatized by it. The people going off on that nurse honestly have no idea what happens in the medical field. Mistakes happen everywhere and all the time. Doctors make mistakes, nurses make mistakes, pilots make mistakes. Mistakes in these roles lead to high consequences, but that doesn't change that fact that you are human. As a nurse, she's probably administered hundreds and thousands of drugs to patients, but it only takes one to ruin a career? You don't understand how stressful the medical workplace is.

    personally I'm on the nurses side. this happens more often than you might think and this is the first time in history a nurse has ever been prosecuted for it. nurses and doctors get sued for things all the time and i 100% agree with that, but, a mistake (which is bound to happen eventually) should cost someone their entire future, that goes for the victim or the nurse. we know its a bad thing, but because there was no ill intent there's really no good done by making her serve time.

    Sorry, I can't agree with the nurse going to prison. Put yourselves in your place, you've been a nurse all your life. You get distracted ONCE and your facing prison for 10 YEARS in prison. May the patient rest in peace and I'm sure the nurse is going to regret that for the rest of her life, but the odds of that happening in your hole career as a nurse and for this mistake to cost you your hole life is heartbreaking. Responsibility in your job is THE most important thing but is taking that ONE mistake and question this nurses responsibility as a experienced nurse right?
