  • Today, we will check out the Yolink temperature and humidity sensor. There are many uses of these sensors inside and outside of your home but I'll be putting one of them inside my freezer so I would know if somebody left the freezer door open or when power is out when my GFCI outlet has been tripped. Yolink sells different types of temperature sensors like one is for outdoors with an IP67 rating, one with a probe to monitor the temperature of your pool or hot tub, and a general indoor rated one that has a screen so you can easily see the current temperature and humidity in a given area.
I'll be also updating my Yolink hub to their new speaker hub which has a speaker so that it can alert you with tones, alarms and even a test to speech voice message when your sensors were tripped or when the temperature or humidity gets out of your set range.

Yolink is very underrated. Specially the technology in their devices. I can see some day Amazon pitching to buy them for $billions.

I'm glad to see you doing a YoLink video. I have a lot of their stuff (I bought every bit of it) and it all works well. The leak detection with the ability to shut of water to the house when there's no power or Internet is unmatched. I use their regular temp sensor in my freezer and it works fine. The LoRa system allows it to work though the metal of a refrigerator easily. I use their temp sensors to also control ceiling fans in two places. When the temp is "high" (80F) an Alexa app starts the fan and when the the temp is "low" (74" it turns it off. I use a motion sensor in my mailbox which works with an Alexa app to announce "You have mail" when it comes. Thank you.

They have a pretty good system and their products and sensors are the ones that fill the gap that other popular brands don’t address and make.

I would move whatever else is plugged into that outlet and only keep the freezer to ensure that you reduce the chances of it tripping. GFCI could also be faulty. But I would definitely pull the outlet from the wall to make sure there is no damage to the wires itself. It’s tripping for a reason, look into it for safety reasons! Best of luck and thanks again for your reviews!

Also, they do have GFCI’s that emit an audible alarm when tripped, hope that helps!

The only thing is..this is only the outlet I have in the garage. I cannot pin point yet what trips it but it happens rarely…mostly it is because of power tools but there are a couple of times that I don’t know about which caused the freezer to thaw out. Thanks.

Another simple solution is to buy a Power Fail Alarm that connects to the same outlet you want to protect. These alarms emit a very loud noise when power is loss to the outlet and the one device I bought on Amazon also emitted a bright flashing light. The noise is loud enough to hear inside your home even if it is connected in your garage.

YoLink has one that will send an emergency alert to your phone, or SMS/email. I use that, a door sensor and temp/humidity sensor as triple protection.

@@LifeHackster The device I use is the Reliance Control Corporation Power Fail Light W/Alarm. Also, another viewer stated Yolink also makes a more sophisticated device that will send a text to your phone upon power failure (Yolink Smart Power Fail Alarm, AC Power Outage Alert).

I bought Yolink leak detectors and alarms. They are very easy to setup, to the point of I wondered whether or not these work. I have 4 sensors and test them every couple of months, they work like a charm! Having sensors on the top and bottom is a great feature. I wish they would make more products including cameras since they do a bang up job on everything else. If anyone is into automating their aquarium Yolink has enough sensors and smart power outlets to make economical setup. Great video LifeHackster!

Hey LifeHackster! Not saying these are "bad" products at all but I use GEN1 SwitchBot temp/humidity sensors with the additional "internet" hub and have these all over my home from the fridge, freezer, basement, garage, and a few around my home. These too can be setup with temp/humidity "ranges" which will alert you on your phone/email to let you know something is wrong in a particular area/appliance and I picked up a "bundle" of (4) sensors for $39 on Amazon after testing a few first. Now SwitchBot does not have the 1/4mile range (which is useless for me) but, these also work with Bluetooth! SwitchBots internet "HUB" costs $49 but sometimes goes on sale. The "beauty" of these products is there is NO annoying alarm or beeping which I absolutely HATE! Now WHY I choose SwitchBot? Well in a power-outage situation and these use Bluetooth I can "constantly" keep an "eye" on temps of my fridge/freezer and determine if I need to hook up my portable generator if temps start to get too high and my local "power" app says it's going to be several hours before power is restored! Most "modern" fridge/freezers are "good" for 6-8hrs with NO power. The "simple" knowing of my temps with NO power is great and has kept me from "pulling" my generator out in MANY cases.
