I just did my home solo with a roller, brush and a hopper. I ended up using a DIY lime wash from a site from MX since its whats common in MX and EU. Which consists of hydrated lime(type S*48cups), salt(1cup) white glue(1.5 cups) and water(4 gals). It was a consistency of watery pancake batter. If you strain the mix you can run it on a hopper used for texture. The hopper will have a lot of over spray but its a great way to knock out a large wall. Don't forget the PPE, especially if you use a sprayer or hopper.

My wife and I have the same exact brick and the same “spray gun” haha when we got to the AC and all that stuff, we just sprayed everything on the wall and then wiped it all down afterwards. We tapped off the big and easy stuff. Like the AC unit. It was a pain but worth it!

You do excellent tutorial. Subscribed. Suggestions:
It may be easier to remove the window screens rather than taping them up before paint spraying
Use a paint brush around all the wall mounts by the central air unit. Consider detaching the cable brackets for the duration.
For future reference...You could probably set up a removable screen to hide all those wall units, perhaps a trellis panel.
That might not be possible if it blocks the utility person from reading the meter.

There's going to be a huge amount of limewash in my future. I'm building ferro cement campground buildings in the Philippines. The walls and roof all from the same material, which will be the color of Portland cement. No glass in the windows, just thin ferro cement shutters.
There's no need for heating or air conditioning, so every portion of these buildings will be the same material, that can be whitewashed without covering anything for protection, except the polished concrete floor.
I'm not sure what type of sprayer we will settle on but I'm keeping an eye on options and on what you are doing.

Sooo freakin much better...I HATE any brown and red bricks! You've done amazing things to the house. It looks cute and interior too! When lst started looking @ houses even no matter how decent interior was I was 100% turned off w/ brick. I'm so damn picky and hated everything on market until we went to new home division looked @ 1yr old home but our offer was beat, had multiple offers w/in 24hrs on market...so we went to same builder and built 3 houses down lol...CRAZY part it was only 2k more w/ waaaay more upgrades and my idea of perfection. It even wasn't that much more at all surprisingly to old homes and everything was picked by us! We've been in 1yr August and I don't think Id ever by a preexisting house now. I just don't see the point of fixing up for me..thought about it w/ 1 house that was 2014 but everything had that basic brown cheap builder grade finishes. By the time to do complete new kitchen and flooring it cost same as our build. It's actually shocking what ppl think they can sell their outdated af home for as if it's a "comp" to updated homes. Idu lol if it's been on market 1yr and not sold look at actual comp home values. Sure cost of homes go up but not if you haven't updated it it at all. Our house isn't huge either but it's very open floor plan w/ tons of huuuuge windows...it's only 1600sqft, w/ 2 car, full basement 3bd 2bths just me n hubby w/ 1st 👶 due in August.

Thank you for sharing. Most videos I have watched mixed the product like you did. However the Romabio website says to dilute it 50-70%, meaning 1 gallon of product mixed with 1/2 gallon of water (50%) up to 1 gallon of product mixed with 70% of a gallon of water (70%). The website has a picture diagram explaining the mixing ratios.

I saw your husband putting 12 cups of romabio to 9 cups of water, meaning 4:3 ratio. Couldn't you just have filled the old 1 gallon empty romabio bucket with romabio and then fill 3/4 of that bucket with water in to the Homer bucket and mix it so you don't have to scoop each cup? Just wondering if there was a reason why he measured out each cup with a measuring cup.

easiest way is to get an airless spray machine from harbor freight (for under $200. with coupon, or wait for ad discount price), mix a few 5 gallons buckets (box them together), then spray everything (like you would with regular paint). when it comes to wires, pipes, etc. Use a spray can of Kilz, or Coverstain, after masking off only the face of electric or other boxes, and throwing a drop cloth over the air conditioner. It will look better, and go way faster. When using spray cans, use a guide (cardboard, plastic, or metal), against the bricks as to not saturate with oil primer, otherwise the brick will not accept the lime wash. This method only works with white lime wash. If you were to use a different color, you would have to paint the pipes, cords, etc. with an actual color matched paint, because the lime wash wouldn't adhere to metal, plastic, and other non-porous surfaces.

Why buy premixed limewash? A 50lb bag of hydrated lime is 11 dollars, add 10% salt by weight to your mix, add water at a 2 to 1 ratio to the dry ingedients and 10% raw linseed oil by volume to the overall mixture for a durable and very cheap limewash. Total cost $11 for lime, $35 for a gallon of linseed oil and $5 for 40 pounds of salt. So for around $50 bucks you can whitewash your entire house (depending on how big it is of course).

I would white wash a brick house but I would NEVER paint it. After you paint a brick house you have to constantly paint it. If you white wash a brick house and don't like it you can always just let it wear off over time. It won't peel and look horrible like paint. You can buy hydrated lime at a feed store in 50 lb bags for a lot less money.

I guess it all depends on the individual. A few hundred dollars is nothing compared to the convenience and reputation of this product. Even more so when you realize you are saving possibly $8,000+ from doing it yourself as opposed to hiring a reputable professional painter.

Please don't do it. I'm looking for a video to remove white paint from the pretty brick that was under the paint 8 months ago...ugh..
