Toyota's small car family has grown in recent times, with the addition of the Smart ForTwo rivalling iQ citycar. While the Yaris looks conservatively styled in comparison to the newcomer, it's still a real contender for those who feel that the current crop of superminis is a little on the large side, but don't want a tiny citycar like the Smart or iQ. Reliable, dependable and with a impressive safety rating, the Yaris that is spacious inside, but small enough to squeeze through the tightest city streets. A sliding rear bench, and interior trim that contains an antibacterial coating it's also child friendly. With light steering and a supple ride, it's best for town trips, but it's still a capable motorway companion. Our favourite model is the diesel engined 1.4-litre D4-D.

I owned this as my first used car and it was amazing. It works hard and never gives up. I've never had any engine problems and no fixes. The only thing bad about it was that it had a serious clear coat problem on the roof on the drivers side which became apparent that all other similar blue hatchback Yaris had the same problem in the same area. Overall it was a great investment. Still works till this day with absolutely no engine problems and is extremely reliable. I recommend this car for first time buyers!!

I have a Toyota Yaris 2008 hatchback 5 door version with the 1.4l diesel, and i couldn't be happier with the car. The suspension is a bit hard, but other than that i've had no problems during the time i've had it so far. It's a great small little city car and i would highly recommend people the 1.4l diesel version as it generates a bit more torque than the other versions (190nm on the 1.4l diesel vs 174nm on the 1.8l gasoline version og 93nm torque on the 1l version)

Had my 3 door Yaris which is exactly same as the one reviewed, even the colour! And can very easily say that it is such a wonderful car to own and drive.. I mean cheap to run, looks very nice and different, tonnes of room inside, the seats are it's party trick! (always impressing the mates) and the list just goes on.. The only thing it is missing would be the auto lights, auto wipers, electric folding mirrors, and the dimming rearview mirror.. similar to my old Toyota iQ thumbs up for the Yaris!

i have one of these (2010 Yaris TR 1.33 6speed) and it is an excellent car, comfortable, reasonably economical and spacious. The sliding rear seats that recline are such a quality feature - most larger cars dont have those! Shame they ruined it so much for the newer generations, these older yaris' are built like tanks - ive never had any problem with mine. The only downside is the hard touch dash - but then again, with so much storage, i'll let it off!

@Против Глобал It depends on tyre pressure. On 2.1 bar it's comfortable, on 2.3 it's a little bit uncomfortable. Best solution is to fit 185 65 r15 instead of 185 60 r15 which are default tyres, higher sidewall will improve comfort.

    • @aleksdj7628
      @aleksdj7628 5 ปีที่แล้ว

@Против Глобал For example, opel corsa d is stiffer and much less comfortable, clio 3 is more comfortable over bumps, even with smaller tyres than yaris or corsa.

I'm expecting to get the Toyota Yaris TR Multimode 1.33 MK2 in Automatic next week. My friends mum has the 2006 model in Automatic and had no problems driving it and it was reliable with no issues. I'm a learner driver and I saw many learners and new drivers driving it so I thought I'd give it a shot. This model is extremely different to all the other hatch backs and I'm used to the digital speedometer than the dials.

We use to own a 2009 base model - 1.0 VVTi. Was a great little car! The 1.0 litre engine may not be quick on the dash to 60, but it's extremely nippy at town speeds and very flexible (much more flexible than the 1.3L engine/gearbox combo on the Mazda2 we replaced it with). It can also hold its own on the motorway and can easily maintain 70mph even on the steeper inclines of the M74 motorway. Fuel economy - if you achieve anything less than 50mpg you're doing something hideously wrong.

I have a 2006 Toyota Yaris RS with A/T with 382,000 km on it.
So far it's been reliable for the most part but I've had 2 issues with it so far.
1st issue: check engine light came on at around 280,000 km. Told by Toyota it was a Charcoal Canister which was about $1000 CAD for part and install.
2nd issue: ABS and e brake light appeared on dash and when taken to Toyota I was told it was a speed sensor. $1000 to fix for part and install.
Besides those problems the car has been very reliable.

Yes I bought one because I wanted a reliable runabout for my job. It’s better than that, actually it’s flippin nippy. And it surprises cars behind that it can accelerate as good as it. Downside is that bits have dropped down from underneath scraping on the floor. Usually just covers and shields, but nevertheless, they don’t seem to have fixed them very well. And yes I agree with the guy here, the suspension doesn’t seem very relaxed. But I get 65 to the gallon and twenty pounds a year for tax, so can’t complain a lot about this little car 🚗

@@jayislander - I Don't own the Yaris anymore. Let it go last year - not because of any faults with it, but because my needs changed where I a larger car was necessary. I was given a generous trade in value, as I kept it super clean and showed my maintenance records. It operated flawlessly, started first or second flick of the key and gave me an honest 36 MPG. I miss how easy it was to maintain. I never NEVER had to put a cent into it, other than gas and oil (and it did not burn a drop). Jay, I'll be honest, the only downside was the road noise, but that's it - this was an *exceptional* value in a car. If I ever fell on hard times where I needed to find a "point A to B" car that was cheap to operate and easy to maintain, this Yaris was it. Hope this helps you.

The car itself is not bad but Toyota recalled it 2 or 3 times to change some airbags.
What is "funny" is that just after one of those recall (replace wheel's airbag) The airbag nearly open itself while I was driving! Hopefully it triggered my klaxon (continuous noice...) which frightened me and made me stop the car.
    The garage didn't even apologize.
Then the climatization turned to no more work (my car was around 4 years). They was anable to find the issue after several meetings during several months.
The last time I went there they even said there was no climatization inside the car while they previously worked on it. To solve this they sent a quote through mail which is around 800€.
Just for those really bad experiences with Toyota garage (we know it's difficult to have a Toyota repaired in some other garages than Toyota) I would not buy another Toyota car...

Above the 2006 version, Yaris got downgrade due to not originally made in Japan (maybe from China, Thailand, ect.)
Luckily, mine is the Japan one and no Doubt about it's performance :)

This machine is a work of Japanes art, if you appreciate symmetry you might like it.
Own a 2010 1.33 for the last nine years and the only thing it needed was a passenger door lock which Toyota fixed for few coins.
These are so bomb proof that when all the golfs and Audis will be turned into meat cans the little Yaris will soldier on for 100s of thousands of miles.
4m long and can turn on a penny, 50mpg always, never see a mechanic garage from the inside, what not to like?

I owned this car before and my comment would be : Clumsy auto transmission, plastic is really, really hard ! Bad visibility (Especially the front pillar where my friend almost crashed my car because of that), rough and noisy engine, white panels on the door side reflected by sun to the window causing visibility problems, and the steering grip is poor when air conditioner is cold. On the good side it's spacious, fun to drive, and the exterior looks good at night (Because theres no sunlight lol)
