Great video, clearly showing the railroad tracks from Ripon right up to the gravel pit. I felt for the guy that was sent on the 180 heading, it was like he was being sent packing. Good for him that he called the controller back and got back in the flow.
Great video! Brings back the fantastic, heart pounding experience of my first, of two, visits to Oshkosh in 1988 just two years after obtaining my Private Pilot License.
One piece of advice. The NOTAM states "Turn base prior to reaching shoreline. Do not continue past shoreline unless advised by ATC." The diagram also shows turning base half way between end of runway and the shoreline. So you overshot it a bit (which was why the ATC sounded urgent).
Thanks for the advice. This was the first time I've been into Oshkosh and any pointers for the future are appreciated. The only item that you can't see in the video was that we were following a Lake Amphibian in and couldn't turn in front of them.
If you get a compliment from a controller with no additional instructions, you are a pro! Well done!
It's always nice when the FISK controllers actually have time to talk to individual pilots.
GREAT JOB! You stayed inside the gravel pit and the approach was EXCELLENT! Better a little high and fast than low and slow.
I think if I were flying into this for the first time it would stress me. Watching this would be a good way to prep. It’s good you post this.
Great job flying the pattern! More should review your video as the way to do it! -OSH ATC

Turning your radio off after you clear the runway will also reduce the stress...
