Over the years, my journey through Lupe's music has been akin to discovering a sanctuary amidst the tumult of the rap landscape. In a genre often overshadowed by negativity, his artistry emerges as a beacon of balance, offering a safe haven from the conventional. With eloquence and grace, Lupe invites us to explore the vibrant and uplifting facets of hip-hop, unveiling its intrinsic beauty and serving as a source of profound motivation. You did it. Thank you Wasalu 👏👏

The way I used to feel about Lupe was how I felt about Kendrick now. I can vibe with Kendrick's music better as I wouldn't say it's dumbed down but it's a easier flow for me to get into. Lupe takes a few listens, a book and an encyclopedia usually but he's god-level lyricism
This track is exactly what I hoped it would be. And the hook is unbelievably catchy. Also the album art is too fire. I’m hyped for this. This is the Lupe i absolutely love. I recently watched his MIT video and the way he thinks about this art form is so deep and methodical, it was so interesting just hearing him talk about. Every little detail in his songs is intended.

Lupe is tied for GOAT status with Kdot personally. I never get sick of Lupe, his songs are so layered and deep that they always feel fresh, and these vintage Lupe vibes are unbeatable. Lupe is rap equivalent of comfort food brought to a micheline star level.
@re4796 multiple classic albums and commercial smash hits that have stood the test of time. He's one of the greatest storytellers and songwriters in music history, he's incredibly versatile, reinventing himself and his sound with each album. He has a near perfect discography, incredible features, and incredible unreleased music like Prayer. He's the only rapper to ever win a pulitzer, has 17 grammys, has the highest grossing rap tour of all time. He also just bodied Drake so hard that he's breaking a ton of Drake's streaming records with a single song. A lot of GOAT contenders get on the top 5 just because of 1 or 2 classic albums and that's it, so why shouldn't Kdot be there when his resume has so much more?
I hope this whole album got this vibe. I need that Food n Liquor flow. Some interview said the album is about street performing/battle rap world and how its akin to samurai life. I can dig it.
Lupe likes to take real-life tragedies and take them in a different direction. Give them a better ending or at least a more hopeful one. Lupe calls them "ressurectives". Samurai is about Amy Winehouse. She had some demons in the form of drug addiction and depression which lead to her death. Lupe is reimagining her ending and having her instead live out her dream of being a battle rap samurai. Lupe describes and raps about her the first verse. Talks about how she is in front of the opera house, singing/rapping something thats fits todays climate, something about gang violence meeting the gangsters demises. The stuff that raises the eyelids of the blind (wakes them up). Second verse, he sets the scene. How those wearing bow ties and suits that are entering the opera house are laughing and looking down on the lower class "blowers of the notes". They look down on her and her band as they enter a place that one day she hopes to perform inside. The final verse is mostly from her perspective. Talking about how she, as a wandering poor artist, was offered to stay at the apartment of a friend for a week. It was like her raft found a beach; a temporary reprieve from the usual lonely wandering. She took a drag from her smoke, read a book, drank a tea, took a bath and went to sleep. What I am guessing is that this is the beginning of a journey. We see her now at the beginning. A struggling artist. A street performer. And hopefully we get to see her grow into a legendary battle rap samurai in this new life story Lupe is telling. The inspiration for the new life he is giving her is what she said about her own dreams to her producer in a recorded call. That is what the hook is quoting. Thats all imma give you. Rest is up to you.
@@ImInYourBrains I was able to watch the clip/remainder of that video and what a thoughtful way to commemorate such impactful artists!
