    It actually makes me feel good that I learned most of these things on my own through so much trial and error and practice. all the new kids out there just starting out watching this probably don't understand just how helpful this video is lol but I did learn a couple things here too thank you so much Whanowa you're a legend.

    • @whanowa

      I agree that learning by doing and finding stuff out for yourself is a good way of working. I've been doing it like this since I was a kid. And no, I'm not a legend. I'm just a regular guy struggling with life like everybody else.

    I've been making films for 30 years and have just started making something with GTA V. The shots/scenes etc. I can get here would be impossible in real life, it's an incredible tool. Your videos are very well explained and have given me a bunch of inspiration, my movie is about to go up a level. Thanks.

  • @Crime_Mime

    Even five years later this video is massively helpful. I've tried my hand at some various 'music videos', but I haven't tried any panning shots. This will really help me overcome some of the limitations I've run up against and had to work around in other ways.

    "Rope" by Alfred Hitchcock is a great example of designing shots for cuts that give the impression of one long take. Thank you so much for your knowledge and time in making these tutorials. This is awesome stuff...

    I love using the smooth camera blend. Especially, for car chases and action scenes.

    • @whanowa
      @whanowa  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes, it takes a while to understand all the nooks and crannies but it's worth it.

    • @ras.9524
      @ras.9524 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I totally agree. Like you said, you have to play with the camera a bit. I learned a lot from watching your videos , as well as Duggy's, Bloodlust180, and a few others to work on my machinimas. Only thing is that I have a PS4, so it's kind of limited. But I make do with what I got. It's very fun indeed.

    • @sirhoneybadger5875
      @sirhoneybadger5875 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      I think the smooth camera is shit. You can't have the camera follow the player and then move in front of the player because it just doesn't move in front. It's too slow. So please explain to me why it's so "good".

    • @whanowa
      @whanowa  7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I think I gave plenty reason in the video why the smooth blend is good for your videos. A tool can only be as good as the person using it. There is a reason all big machinima creators use the smooth blend. As I said in the video it takes some practice to get the hang of it. If it's too slow you need to move the markers further left or move the camera further to compensate for the transitions between the markers. Admittedly it's nowhere near perfect but it's better than having a static camera or linear blend.

  • @truffleshuffle009
    @truffleshuffle009 7 ปีที่แล้ว +7

    I love this and thanks. I always wondered why my smooth blend always looked a bit off. We need a good comprehensive tutorial for scene director like this. That is something thats really hard to work with.

    • @truffleshuffle009
      @truffleshuffle009 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Ya or longer there is a lot of stuff to do. There are a lot of stuff I learned myself but the harder things like setting up a scene where actors do things and go to certain points of foot and with a car just escape me. my actors always end up in the middle of nowhere even with waypoints. Their cars also end up trashed lol.

  • @ProjectHelisexuality

    I don't do a lot of smooth blending if it involves more than point a to point b. For now, that's how I avoid some of its problems - they don't kick in when I do that. I might have to experiment with longer clips though. As it is, I do quite action packed videos with a lot of changing camera angles.

    • @whanowa
      @whanowa  4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      It always depends what you're going for. Some people wanna make long handheld oners and smooth blend is inevitable for that.

      @@-crispychips-9187 You can activate subtitles if that helps and always pause to see the settings in editor. Watch in full screen mode! Everything is in there.
      You CAN use "follow target" but that isn't what smooth blend is about.

    For some reason I can’t edit the camera angle at all. I’m on PS5 and I’m trying to edit me in a Savage but I can seem to use the camera angle.

    God I have such good on foot camera knowledge but when I try doing car shots it’s a fuck fest i can never get the camera to actually keep up with the car:/

    • @whanowa
      @whanowa  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      You have to move the markers to the left a lot more. If there's not enough room for that, move the camera farther to where the cars will be instead of where they are. It sucks, I know.

    This tutorial really worked for me and my scenes looks better, but at the end the smooth blends sped up to the last marker like in 3:00, but setting another marker doesnt do anything and idk what to do anymore :/

    • @whanowa
      @whanowa  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      You cut that part away in your editing software because the speedup always happens at the last marker, no matter if it is the 5th or the 50th marker where the blend ends.

    Can someone help me, the smooth blend does some really weird stuff sometimes and i really cant figure out why. i know that its often too slow so u need to move the markers but sometimes it stops completly and jumps forward in the last second before the next marker. Ive always used the linear blend because of this but i wanna make more complex camera movements. Is there a way to explain or do i just have to learn from 'trail and error' which takes alot of time.

    Thanks this was a big help.
    Couple of questions.
    Is the letter boxing an option in rockstar editor?
    Is there a technique to get two clips with camera movement pass from one clip to the other seamlessly? Or is that time to hide the cut with a passing object.

    • @whanowa
      @whanowa  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      1. No.
      2. There will be a tutorial about how to pass on camera settings to other clips but this only works for shots like this: th-cam.com/video/yHHiKdriFjE/w-d-xo.html
