I used dry dog food with a little water & a squirt of blue Dawn dish detergent. This is basically the same way I've made fruit fly traps for years. Same process with the bottle but you don't need to tape it if the way you cut it gave you a clean seal. For the solution mixture to catch fruit flies it's 2 parts apple cider vinegar to 1 part water & a squirt of blue Dawn. Fill it up to JUST below the funnel. Works like a charm

    • @dreamingrightnow1174
      @dreamingrightnow1174 ปีที่แล้ว

What's the dawn for? Do the maggots die in your mixture? I've tried killing them several ways and they are tough suckers.

@@dreamingrightnow1174 dish soap breaks the surface of the water to help drown. I'm assuming that's what it's for, at least for the fruit flies. Doesn't sound like there's enough water in for the flies for that.

@@dreamingrightnow1174soap breaks the surface tension of water, I'm pretty sure they can just sort of stand on water without soap. You might have done the salt and water trick before where it all goes to the edge when you add soap, it's the same as that. The water molecules are being pushed away from the soap making them more spaced out. Another example is when you fill a glass of water past the rim where it's sort of a bubble over the top that's possible because of the surface tension, so if you added soap the the same glass it would spill over the edge. Sorry that was long I like water haha

Keep in mind that they do that on purpose to get u to watch there videos and have more commercials to get paid by TH-cam! So that's another huge reason I liked this video! Please if u notice a person that keeps talking and talking stop watching there videos and tell ur friends! To avoid the smell. Construct the trap the same way but instead of rotting meat fill 1/3 of bottle with 50% water and 50% apple cider vinegar. Couple tablespoons of sugar and some liquid dish soap. The flies will drown in the mix and will not create maggots.

I'd like to add a bit of info to this, if you don't mind. While this device works well to catch flies, as you mention, you have to remember that it is designed to attract flies. Which is why I'm guessing you've got flies coming in when you open your door. Particularly if it's placed near your door. I might suggest placing it further away from your door, if that's in deed where you're placing the fly trap. Also, if you got garbage cans near your door, as I do because it's the only place for us to put them, then that could be the main problem. There are other steps you can take to prevent them from being attracted to your garbage cans in the first place.

We live on a 70 acre farm so there is no shortage of flies. We mostly see them around the kitchen area no where near a door. Our trash is also in the kitchen area but your ideas are good ones. I’ve seen people around here hang bags of water in front of their doors to keep flies out not sure if that works but they think so. Thanks for commenting and watching.

ok i just used another method to get rid of flies and small flies in my house. take a water spray bottle.. fill it with water and some dawn dish detergent. Just keep spraying the flies and small ones.. i killed 3 big flies.. they all slow down because they get wet, and there is also dawn dish detergent so that must slow them down also.. then i just get them with the wet kitchen cotton towel. I just kept at it, spraying all those flying ones, big ones. small ones on the wall.. etc. i killed so many. I got the big ones in mid air and as you spray them and keep spraying they will slow down.. they will land someplace and just get them. The small ones if they land on the wall or in mid air the same system.. keep spraying.. keep wacking with wet towel.. then after all that you can also add this trap. But spraying them worked so fast.

My solution was to place a small amount of pineapple juice in a small container, not covered. Iplaced it close to my plants were I saw a lot of flies. Within the hour each container had over 50 flies. Good luck with those pesty insects.

Thanks buddy as I live in the mountains of South America and I don't have screens on my windows and must open the doors and windows by 10:00 or 11:00 because the Sun makes it too hot in here and as you say even with screens they will sneak in. I was already using yogurt containers with little knife holes in the top and putting banana peel and other things to catch fruit flies but now you have given me your idea to catch the real badass flies that try to drive me crazy when I'm eating and I don't want a flying maggot crap eater landing on my food haha. One guy said raw eggs out in the sun but I like your ground meat idea better because I don't think the order will be as bad and I will do what I do with the fruit flies after three or four days I drown them by pouring water into the holes running it under the faucet Shake It Up and they all die. If there's maggots I'll pour them out and monkey Stomp Them. Then another guy had dishwashing detergent added to the solution so that way maybe it would keep the maggots down or I'll just drown them in 3 days and that should do it. God bless you brother and your whole family. Trust your creator to take you through these crazy times that we're in. I don't play churches brother because most of them are fake but I have studied the Bible for 40 years and I help young men get off drugs and I teach them the word and how to live a stand-up life so you just made a contribution to helping young men get their lives right. God bless you with the truth the life and the way and that's for everyone looking at the comments. We're fighting luciferian bankers and you can't fight Lucifer without Christ. Think about that. They admit Lucifer is their God and they even do child sacrifices plus drink the children's blood after they rape them so the adrenochrome is high. Sick really freaking sick people so grab on to your creator Jesus Christ and he will either take you through it or take you home. This life is but a breath and Eternity is a long time. Surrender to the Lord and you get free eternal life just come as you are don't pay any attention to churches or preachers that tell you you have to change this or that. Leave that up to God he will guide you. Bendiciones, blessings. From Craig in South America

You might want to get a Ziploc bag with 4 Pennys and put a few inches of water in the bag with the pennies. The water refracts of the pennies making them look like 8 eyes. when the flies see it they stay away because it looks like spider eyes. Hang them in a couple areas around your windows and doors and the flies won't rush in. No joke!!! I've done it for years and the flies don't come in

I don't do anything this elaborate. All I do is get a small bowl. Put 1/2 cup water in it. Then put 1-2 ounces of apple cider vinegar and 1 teaspoon of sugar in it. Lastly, 1-2 drops of dish washing liquid. I then put the small bowl under a light in the kitchen. I catch each and every fly 100% of the time within 20 minutes. I use an old cottage cheese container with a lid. Once I catch the fly/flies, I fish them out, put the lid on the container and put it under my kitchen sink for later use. Why waste the ingredients?

I had a swarm of flies in my house one morning. What has worked for me after a lot of trial and error is this:
    1. Clean out the bathroom completely. You don't want the flies to have options of things to land on. And when you start spraying them, it'll get everywhere.
    2. I was using a can of Maximum Hold Hairspray, but then I switched to a spray bottle filled with water and some dish soap (This is VERY SLIPPERY use CAUTION). I leave a fly swatter in a bucket in the bathroom for quick and easy access.
    3. Turn on the bathroom light and leave the door open.
    4. Turn off off ALL the other lights in the house. Listen to some music. Talk on the phone. Go for a walk. Run a quick errand. Just keep the lights off. You don't want to wait for hours because you'll have to keep doing this about every hour. You won't get them all in one day.
    5. Wait an hour.
    6. They'll be there.
    7. You can spray them first to slow them down. It will be messy and sticky.
    8. When they land, usually on or near the light, or the mirror, just get the swatter no more than 2 inches from them (they really don't fly away, so be brave and get close) and flip your wrist. SMASH!
    9. When they start swarming after you've killed some, leave the room.
    10. Wait about 30 minutes for them to settle down and start landing again.
    11. Repeat.
    12. Pick all of them up and put in a tightly sealed container and mail to Bill Gates, he says we should quit eating meat and eat bugs.
When you go to bed at night leave the light and door open. You will probably have some more in there in the morning.
You'll think you've gotten them all, but more will come back. I guess they have to grow up. So, don't move anything back into the bathroom until you've not see any for a couple of days. Be sure to wipe EVERYTHING down with water and Borax or whatever you use.
Make sure you're extra diligent about keeping the trash out. Don't let it sit overnight. I threw away all my fruit and onions and potatoes that were out. Keep everything dry.

One thing I've done, not having chickens, is pop it in the freezer just long enough to freeze them. It kills the maggots then I stuff a something in the hole so no new flies get in and toss it in my outside trash. I made the mistake of leaving them in the freezer too long and the smell is so powerful, it soaks into the walls of the freezer. Disgusting.

How come you didn't want to put liquid in there so they drowned? Some soapy water?

Put some water in it and the flies will drown and not hatch maggots. Just need to make the water smelly somehow. If the flies in there are dead and the meat decays and everything gets good and yucky you'll have a nice oozy mess that still drowns the flies. Once you're done with it, just call a hazmat team to dispose of it.

I poke holes in the inverted part,it seems to attract the flies more.

Put a bit of rank organic matter in a 5 gallon bucket, with a mouse sticky trap/card (outside of course) and you'll have 50 flies stuck in no time.

My mom puts water and meat in the bottom keeping the meat covered. I don't know if that will solve the maggot problem. It is not something yo noticed in her outside traps.
