The Fashionistas are meant to be "affordable" - I'm just happy that they shirts aren't painted like they were for a while and they're back to real clothing, although I do wish they would release outfits for the dolls like they used to with Fashion Avenue instead of force you to buy a whole new doll with a body type that potentially doesn't fit the clothing you already own. The line is not perfect, I still think the 90s dolls were better, but it is an improvement over simple tulle skirts and painted on bodices
It’s nice to know the fashionista dolls always had tacky fashion and it’s not something Mattel started doing recently, granted the older fashionistas did look like the fashion pieces were better quality as opposed to the current ones, I just wish Mattel stayed consistent with certain Barbie lines but just made them more diverse and more fashionable
@@avril6922 all I ask is to see a curvy barbie dressing like glam and sweetie, at the very least wearing an actually fashionable outfit instead of an oversized t shirt dress
@@BloodyBraces Ahhh so you meant today's version of glam or sweet... I thought the style of those years 🤣 it was cute tho but not all of those outfits would sell, I guess glam is very classic and timeless 👌
At least this time Mattel actually listened and did something about it when people complained about the Wheelchair not fitting into the 2020s dream home. That certiantly didn't happen in the 90s when there was Wheelchair Becky.
There was also a line of fashionistas around 2014-2015 called “Barbie Style” and each dolls had the classic fashionistas articulation as well as trendy clothes for that time
The bald Barbie and long-haired Ken were amongst the first dolls I bought as an adult collector, when I just started picking up the hobby. I love them so much. Nowadays they‘re both on MTM bodies, wearing my most realistic, high quality clothes haha
I remember being obsessed with the Fashionistas line as a kid because they were the first Barbies I’d seen with WRIST ARTICULATION AND I WAS OBSESSED. MY CHILD SELF THOUGHT THIS WAS THE PEAK OF INNOVATION. SAME WITH THE SWAPPING HEADS. My favorites were Girly and Cutie, I actually played with cutie so hard in fact that I broke her leg elastic.. My fathers solution was to super glue her legs in place .. I guess it worked but my girl couldn’t sit down anymore, just kneel 😭🤚
I absolutely love fashionista line. I still want a bit of articulation and better fashion. But I think barbie is the most diverse doll brand and the fact that they have introduced so many new face molds and screaning in past years blows me away.
I was almost too old for dolls when Barbie appeared. My Jill dressed like my mother. Barbie dressed like my high school student neighbors and what we imagined college girls dressed like just before Jackie Kennedy became FLOTUS. Barbie appealed to each separate generation. I loved my 1950s dolls because they were a reflection of my generation. The fashionistas appeal to you for the same reason. Enjoy.

fashionistas are very affordable if your a doll collector. 2016 and 2019 was obviously the biggest years for barbie fashionistas. even being one of barbies most successful lines they still have not decided to add articulation which sucks heavy. i used rave about this line untill around 2020 when everything kinda got boring and gimmicky. the new fashionistas are really boring in clothing wise but we need to remember your paying the price🙂
They should’ve kept the articulation the 2009-early 2014 fashionistas had and kept them $14.99-16.99 if they would’ve gave us in 2016 when they gave us the 3 different body types it wouldve been a step forward
@@tevinthelifestyleguy2570 100% agree. And also barbie needed to make it wore by putting them in that weird model pose. Like i can stand all my fashionistas up except those ones 😭
8:09 I've been asking myself that same question ("Did anyone win that contest?") for years about that "Doll for a Day" contest where if you bought so many items with the "Doll for a Day" sticker, you could get a Barbie doll that looked just like you. And I LOVED watching those animated Fashionistas shorts when I was younger! I'd watch them all the time! ("It was cancelled") THAT explains why there were scenes that were shown in the theme song sequence that were never shown in the episodes. Like the part of Sporty picking up a puppy gnawing on a high-heeled shoe and the parrots on Sassy weren't in any of the episodes. To conclude, Joey LOVES Raquelle but HATES Sporty. 16:02 At least it came with high heels.
Thank you for such a comprehensive video taking us through the entire evolution of the line. The downgrade of boring robot bodies and fashion (including even the fabrics) is a bit disappointing. I just got an artsy and find her a really phenomenal doll compared with the new ones. Love everything about her and am adding more to my collection from that era.
This is my favorite line. They remind me of friends and fun people I’d like to meet. The simpler styles that are sometimes considered outdated are perfect for throwback styles like 2000s skateboarding and 90s grunge.

I love that they currently have so much diversity, but I am continuously extremely annoyed with the lack of articulation for most of the fashionistas. The only one I currently own is one that came with a wheelchair, and I'm probably going to get another one soon. I like that the chairs resemble modern manual wheelchairs that people actually use. I'd love to see them make more dolls with different types of mobility aids. Yes all the other dolls are very affordable, but that's because they are cheaply made and Mattel doesn't want to spend the money on more articulation if they don't have to. I really don't want to encourage any dolls brands to keep making dolls with little articulation so I haven't bought any. I don't want a doll that can barely move, to me personally that defeats the whole point of a doll. If other adult collects can enjoy those dolls then I'm glad they can. I'm the most tempted to get one of the ones representing different disabilities, but even then my distaste for the articulation is still very strong. I really wish the ones with prosthetic legs had knee and elbow joints. The only other barbies I've bought as an adult is two of the barbie extras.
One of my favorite dolls ever was the original Girly fashionista from 2009, and eventually one of the dolls with the round leg joints but I don’t remember if she was a fashionista or not. I honestly still mourn the day I finally threw her out I miss her so much 😭 Also early 2012 fashionistas? I only know Cameron and Shay Van Buren
This was so interesting, I was brought back to having those fashionistas with the swappable heads, but not really being able to swap them because I had a Barbie, a Teresa, and a Nikki (different skin tones), it was an odd and impractical idea. Also seeing that my most favorite dolls were some of the first editions of the fashionistas
All my barbies in the90s had bendable knees, that's hugely missing now. You could get them to sit on chairs,in the car....and it set them apart from other dolls at the time. The dresses were beautiful too,so many now have painted on plastic clothes! Not a patch on the old ones sadly. Give me peaches and cream Barbie any day!
I love diversity - but I just want good fashion. I don’t need a doll that looks like me. I need a doll that can wear a well constructed piece of fabric .
We deserve to have both. I want dolls who look like me and the people around me in the world but I also want us to look great and show our sense of style and unique personalities.
I think that many people tend to forget that today's world economic stability is not what it was 20 or even 10 years ago. We demand many things from Mattel but honestly it's difficult that the whole enterprise will change the massive production of their products just to fit whims of luxury. Sadly they have become cheap, fast and simple, for some this is good, some others want more but the reality is that Barbie hardly endures the change of times and we have to accept that things change and that if we want better clothing we can sew it ourselves 😊
You're also an adult and these are dolls made for children. We deserve both good representation and good quality. It pisses me off to see adult collectors dismiss the importance of representation when pushing for better quality.
It feels like the current line of Fashionistas lacks a lot of diversity from some of the previous diversity lines of Fashionistas. Like there aren’t really any dolls with textured hair from the 2023 lineup.
Great video! I also was so excited when the curvy fashionistas were released that I bought all 3, they actually started my collecting journey- it was the first time I had ordered anything online, and at that time Amazon took 2 months to deliver the order to my rural northern town. Totally worth it.
The Barbie Fashionistas is my favorite playline. I love the diversity, the body types, faces, and I love how they includes dolls with disabilities. Unfortunately, the ones with colored hair, their hair is made of Polypropylene, which is not too bad to be honest because I could always try styling their hair into an updo, or pigtail braids.
JOEEEEEEEY! The firrst frame of the 2012 wave (swappin styles) brought me so many memories!!!! I still have the girls I got back then, a Glam, a Sporty and a Sassy (that one with the purple hair and a sort of top hat hairband). It was the poseability that got me, I always hated how my dolls used to sit LOL ps: I love that the ad on this video was the Barbie movie on HBO, LOL
I loved the original fashionistas line. the glam barbie was my absolute favourite and i named her veronica. i had the hottie ken as well who i named eric. i had the barbie townhouse with the pulley cord elevator and the hot tub along with the glam jet. it was so fun pretending my doll was a famous actress
I remember the first 3 waves of The Fashionistas I even have a few dolls from those waves. I remember the ones that had the BFF head swap & the ones with the pet & colorful hair. I miss the ones with 2 fashions they should bring it back. Personally the first wave was the best wave & I loved the big thick knee it looks better than the skinny ones we have now. I wish I could go back in time & grab every single Fashionista doll just for the clothes.
Thanks, You’re so much help, I was gifted a bunch of dolls from all eras and stuff, and your shows been helping me a lot with know what’s what and who’s who. Thanks
I too like the dolls having names instead of numbers. I get it, the names would make them friends of Barbie instead of “the Barbie” - so every skin tone and body type are all equal. Fashionista was the one Barbie line I really got into. I bought all the dolls, all the single fashion packs, all the three fashion packs, etc. I stopped collecting after the first line with names, and only because of collecting Monster High and Integrity Toys Jem and the Holograms at the same time. Loved the packaging and shimmery back drops, the articulation, and even the fashions. 😂 Funny that Hottie Ken, Girly Barbie and Wild Barbie were replaced after the first wave. You might find it as interesting as I do, the new body types came out in 2016, almost one year after the Jem comic book was released with Jem, the Holograms, and Misfits having different body types. Very suspicious timing, especially with it being the 30th Anniversary of Jem and also Jem’s knock off Barbie and the Rockers. Guess Mattel was expecting Hasbro to release Jem dolls with different bodies for the comic, so they had to rush to be Hasbro to it.
As a kid I had Cutie, Glamour, Girly from the first wave. Second wave i had, Sassy, Cutie and Sweetie. i had a couple with the swap-able head dolls, i never used that feature. my absolute favorite of all my dolls was the Raquelle one that you also have, i thought she was so beautiful,
The reason the 2009-12 had articulation was because Spinmaster had releaesed the very articulated dolls LiV! When Spinmaster stopped making them in 2012 Mattel stopped the articulation too .
I put both the first braids Fashionista and the heaing aid one on to mtm bodies and redressed them :) Well braids kept her t-shirt but paired with some jeans. Other is now my mini-me and wears ily clothes. 😂
I wish they would go back to giving the Fashionista dolls articulation. I have several of the Fashionista and have mad several articulated. I also wish the clothes were made better. Mattels quality is no longer great or very fashionable. I have really embraced the Integrity dolls last year because they are articulated and their clothes are great quality! Great video Joey!
I loved the Barbie Fashionistas when I was a kid. I’m with you on some of the clothes not being stylish, but i still love some of them 😂😅. Even though I was 6 when the Fashionistas got the quality downgrade, i hated the stiff bodies with a passion. But i did still Like some of the clothes. When the New wave with more diversity was released, i got into them even more. I Also Like the Millie mold, it’s really adorable and really youthful, but the GG sculpt is still my all-time fav. And it continued Like that for a few years until i started not Loving the clothes very much… the majority of them wore big baggy t-Shirt dresses and the Fashions were a bit plain… but some of them i did Like. Another problem i had with the Fashionistas was the variety of clothes lacking, very few of them, even in the early 2010s, had all similiar cuts and silhouettes… they were just wearing short dresses to thighs, which is fine but i like variety and each doll has a specific style, not many of them wore pants or sweaters, and it still remains to this day, but i understand it. I feel Like recently there has been a slight improvement on some fashion pieces, and i hope they will get better and better and then bloom like never Before! Here are my top 10 fav Fashionistas of all time (2010s): 10. Glam from in the Spotlight collection 9. Barbie from the clutch collection 8. Wild from the First wave 7. Sweetie in the Spotlight 6. Sporty With the hoodie 5. Sassy in the Spotlight 4. Teresa Clutch 3. Raquelle Clutch 2. Glam Wave 1 1. Sassy Wave 1 Top 10s (The unarticulated era) 10. The One With Braids 9. The original Barbie reference from this year 8. The one with the pink plaid Dress with the white frills and the black bow 7. The one with the purple gingham peek a boo stomach Dress 6. The one with the green hair and denim dungarees 5. The one with the patchwork denim dress that’s off the shoulders and wears an orange tie on the head 4. The one with the purple hair and a purple holographic dress 3. The one with the blue crimped hair and a rainbow tee. 2. The Shani that has a long sleeved marble dress 1. The Daya with the orange top and floral pants. I really enjoyed your video, and you never disappoint Joey, keep up the good work! 💝💝🎀
The Fashionistas are such a cool diverse line. Mattel just needs to do two things to make them great. One bring back good articulation and two give them names as I would love these dolls to have an actual identity and bio it would be fun.
Il y a une vraie tempête ici ce soir à Québec. Quand je regarde ces reportages de gens complètement perdus en hiver, c’est incroyable! Pas d’épandage de sel, pas de pneus d’hiver, pas de gestion des routes.
I vivdly rememeber the 2016 Fashionistas cause at 20 for the first time since I was a kid I begged my mom for a Barbie as a gift cause I saw myself in the peitie mold and was excited to have a Barbie that looked like me

I love your videos so much, you tube needs more doll content ❤ I’m sure you’ve got lots of content already in the works, but I’d love to see some videos on vintage dolls 😍 Blythes, Madam Alexander, Lonley Lisa, whimsie dolls ect. I’ve been collecting them for years, each one is so unique and different xx
When they released the curvy Barbie it meant so much to me. I felt so seen. I wish they would make a petite and curvy Barbie. I'd prob just cry from happiness because I'm a plus sized 5'0 gal.
Hi Joey I came up with a video idea the other day and would love to see it if you could make a video about it. The video idea is the evolution of the Barbie body throughout the years, like body mold, articulation, etc. Always love watching your videos and hearing your thoughts about dolls in general!!! 💖
Thanks a great idea! I’ve been thinking I should make a video about the evolution of Barbie at some point since I’ve done most of her friends and family
Lower quality dolls are quicker to manufacture, and that matters when there are so many coming out. Even Mattel can only produce dolls so fast. If they’d waited until the year with a bunch of different bodies to make this drop, it would be seen as “Mattel doesn’t think curvy/etc bodies deserve the same quality,” even if the drop was to enable them to produce to many types at once. So start a few years earlier, and you separate from drop from the diversity.
I personally prefer the fashionistas that came out 2015 and beyond, as they are the ones that got me into collecting dolls inbthe first place (the ones before 2015 but after the fashion fever line look tacky, save for the Nikki doll), but I wish they would include articulation and better fashion. More fashion packs and clothes for curvies would be highly appreciated. It's hard to find the earlier wave of fashionistas, so maybe sticking to say 15 different body and face sculpts and focus on articulation and the clothes would have been nice.
Great video! I love how you really included all the dolls from the OG line! I never heard about the Hollywood travelers (forgot the name 😅) but now I need to get them! 😅
Enjoyed the video Joey 😁 But you did one of my favorite Ken dolls dirty. The 2009 Hottie/ Cutie Ken is one of my favorites. I love his face mold and blue eyes. I don’t get why you think he looks like a creepy old man????

I still have the girls I got back then, a Glam, a Sporty and a Sassy (that one with the purple hair and a sort of top hat hairband). It was the poseability that got me, I always hated how my dolls used to sit LOL
ps: I love that the ad on this video was the Barbie movie on HBO, LOL
Another thing i noticed is how some barbie peices feel cheap and papery but some are used with quality fabric.

Anybody who watched MPGIS saw the silver dress one and immediately thought "oh hey it's Cameron"
Thanks
Hi Joey I bought for Christmas of last year in 2023 Camping Barbie she is beautiful
I loved my „Hottie“ Ken as a child 😅
As a kid I had Cutie, Glamour, Girly from the first wave. Second wave i had, Sassy, Cutie and Sweetie. i had a couple with the swap-able head dolls, i never used that feature. my absolute favorite of all my dolls was the Raquelle one that you also have, i thought she was so beautiful,
As a kid, i have always wanted the one of the first fashinonistas dolls. 💕
I think I am going to be looking for the first four years of Fashionatas to add to my collection.
The reason the 2009-12 had articulation was because Spinmaster had releaesed the very articulated dolls LiV! When Spinmaster stopped making them in 2012 Mattel stopped the articulation too .
I completely missed out on the swappable head dolls.
Barbie Fashionistas 2009, 2010, 2011, 2012 and 2013 are THE REAL FASHIONISTAS, are THE QUEENS. ❤️
Thank you. I love Millie and do not understand why everyone hates her
2009 - 2012 Fashionistas was the best!
That was informative...as I've always loved Barbie & been making barbie stuff for a few years...I've only been actively collecting for a couple.
I put both the first braids Fashionista and the heaing aid one on to mtm bodies and redressed them :) Well braids kept her t-shirt but paired with some jeans. Other is now my mini-me and wears ily clothes. 😂
i loved the xtra heads from myscene too
I wish they would go back to giving the Fashionista dolls articulation.

I really enjoyed your video, and you never disappoint Joey, keep up the good work! 💝💝🎀
I might've asked this before, but do you keep your Barbie boxes? Do you put some dolls back in the box for display?
The Fashionistas are such a cool diverse line. Mattel just needs to do two things to make them great. One bring back good articulation and two give them names as I would love these dolls to have an actual identity and bio it would be fun.
You should do fashion fever next!!
i owned the raquel doll from the last fashionistas line in 2012, looking for the nikki
Thank you for your video. Is it possible to make a video about the different fCemolds?
Il y a une vraie tempête ici ce soir à Québec. Quand je regarde ces reportages de gens complètement perdus en hiver, c’est incroyable! Pas d’épandage de sel, pas de pneus d’hiver, pas de gestion des routes.
I vivdly rememeber the 2016 Fashionistas cause at 20 for the first time since I was a kid I begged my mom for a Barbie as a gift cause I saw myself in the peitie mold and was excited to have a Barbie that looked like me
Hey!
My daughter and I have so many of these
Hi Joey I came up with a video idea the other day and would love to see it if you could make a video about it.
I also like the videos you make and my daughter has a bunch of baribes with diversity and original body and shin tones.
Love your videos! May I asked where you found your cool heart lights in the background?
Thanks, now I kno years to search some
The 2018 wave with the Albino girl was honestly the last good Fashionistas wave.
The ken with long hair is the first ken doll we ever got and we still only have 3
Lower quality dolls are quicker to manufacture, and that matters when there are so many coming out.
My main issue with fahionista is lack of articulation what makes cheap clothes to look even cheaper.
Oooh, I wonder when we'll get a Barbie who uses an AAC device 👀⌨
Great video Joey!
I love this líne and i still buying ❤
I want the Ken doll you don't like and am searching for him on ebay now!
Enjoyed the video Joey 😁 But you did one of my favorite Ken dolls dirty. The 2009 Hottie/ Cutie Ken is one of my favorites. I love his face mold and blue eyes. I don’t get why you think he looks like a creepy old man????
i would like to see the lore of barbie fashion fever
yes including the hilary duff collab and i think someone else not sure
@@bb-nq9ho i guess just hilary and thats it, but im not sure
Please do evolution of ever after high dolls!!❤
