Mr Agbaletu, Baba O, three Gbosa to you Brother.
Many thanks for sharing this tape with the world.
This tape was one I acquired in 88/89 in Lagos, took to Abuja for my NYSC and then brought to the UK only to lend it to a friend who never returned it!
You have made my day, year, rest of my life!!!
    Gbosa Gbosa Gbosa!

Again, SSP released ijo shina(Afro juju) in 1989, but you tag this live "1988", and all the songs/anthem he sang here were in his 1989 record, which I believe was the first time he released it. how come? please check the date again and confirm!

Artists don’t sing most of their songs first in the albums. The songs that make it to the albums are popular numbers during live shows. For example, a lot of songs in this live play came out in Experience 1992. So SSP has been singing his Ijo Shina since 1987. It only made it to an album in December 89. Also, the Demo of Ace was ready about a year before the eventual release of the popular version. Same songs, different production style.

Please, don’t forget that several live performances are at one time or the other arranged into studio recordings.
      My take on this, thanks.

You guys are absolutely right. Shina is known to have sang most his music during live plays before arranging them into albums, back then.
The problem I have with Shina Peters is the dropping of the guitar. I don’t buy his explanation for that decision in his interview with you. The guitar brought him to limelight in his younger years. It was his wizardry on the same guitar that propelled him during Afrojuju, Shinamaia.
Remember the portion of “Emi pelu won ni yio ko…..orin Shina Peter” where he threw in a solo guitar interlude I always love to hear every time. That part was later copied by Late Dayo Kujore in his own “Ayo, ayo a kari gbogbo wa, Oba mimo ti gb’ayo de o…..”
I think dropping the guitar did his career in. People want to see and hear creativity from your fingers in addition to the voice. That is what stands you out!
I may be wrong but as a big fan and follower of his trajectory, I think the abandonment of the element that brought him to limelight was a mistake. Just listen to their Shina Adewale songs, where he had the freedom and did the impossible on the guitar back then!. That guy is something special. I love him greatly and still want to see him sing and performing (howbeit with “more maturity”) lol.!
Dele, I really appreciate you in all you do. Your approach is quintessentially brilliant. May God continually bless you

It is in order. I am a follower of Shina Peter from when he was with Prince Adekunle. When he broke with Segun Adewale he made many adventure and lots of live performances before he eventually came out with ACE. This was one of his live plays way back then. Lots of respect to Agbaletu.

Used to love SSP and juju in general until they started messing it up with saxophones. Saxophones don't belong in juju music. just my take. I still listen to pre-saxophone juju though.

Really? How many juju musician actually use Saxophone? Wale Thompson is about the only juju musician that used saxophone for intro in his debut album Lalale Friday. Fuji musicians even use more of saxophone these days.
