I met them at The Russel Club in Hulme Manchester in the late 70s and sat with Sonny for an hour before the concert began.I even took him to the toilet and played a bit of harp for him in his ear.He said you got it boy and that was enough for me.Brownie was a lovely fellow too but they were estranged so they kept apart from each other until they got on stage and made their magic.Strange but true.Jim.
Amen Bill, the blues ain't got no limits on how the soul needs to get it's own message across through the music and it's a mighty safe bet that pretty much all the blues legends didn't care about whether they were playing 4 bars, 8 bars, 12 bars or whatever... if the music and rhythm fit the song and story they were trying to tell, they worked it and that was all they needed to know. The magic of their music is still alive and strong to this day. "The blues is the truth and the blues are here to stay." - Willie Dixon
I enjoy listening to Sonny play the lickin' stick as much as any harmonica lover would, but sometimes I wish he could just quit stomping all over Brownie's awesome vocals.
Blues will forever be a part of my soul, an era of music that needs to stay alive
I had the privilege of meeting them in 1974 in Shrewsbury,UK backstage. What lovely gentlemen.
