Well, I'm so glad I found this video. I followed instructions to a T with one exception. Instead of cutting a hole for the hose, we used the slider with a hole that came with the air conditioner on the bottom. Therefore we just had to cut a rectangular piece of acrylic for the top part. Used gorilla tape to secure the space between the two. Used the velcro as directed and it worked like a charm! Our window is in a place where no one sees it so not as worried about aesthetics. Great video!
Brilliant. Truly. I just picked up my polycarbonate sheet today. The plastic piece is installed so tight it's incredible. Your idea turned out so perfectly. I didn't have to use the velcro because my polycarbonate sheet is exactly the same size as my screen so my screen clips are holding it nice and tight. I am so grateful for your clever idea!! thanks!
Greetings from the UK where the weather rarely gets uncomfortable, however last year was damn awful during parts of the summer (40°c plus😩). Just invested in a portable air con and couldn't think how to create a sealed area around the casement window until I happened across this. This is a brilliant idea, thanks so much 👍😊
Thank you Pat. You had the best and easiest way to install my portable AC in my casement window. Thanks for your follow up video. My local plexiglass store recommended plexiglass vs polycarbonate, as he said the polycarbonate would yellow over time. I can’t thank you enough for sharing your wonderful invention on TH-cam. Very much appreciated!
Thank you Pat for making this follow-up video with the velcro updates. You are an amazing person to come up with this brilliant idea and then share the vital information online. You are empowering many people so they can stay cool during the hot months of the year. God bless you and your family always.
Thanks Pat you've just solved my problem. I just hope I can find that poly stuff in the size that I would need. My window is high and narrow. I was going to purchase the one made of cloth with the zipper but it looks weird to me. Thanks again!
Hello thank you for your helpful video. With the screen being in place, have you had any damage to it from the hot air exhaust? I've read that screens can get damaged due to the hot air. My screen is next-to-impossible to remove, so if I can just put the exhaust over the screen as you've done, I hope it will work without damaging the screen. Many thanks.
The hose fitting that lines up with the matching hole in the polycarbonate has notches. Push the fitting into the hole and move it to the left or right to lock it in place.
One more detail……., When you insert the vent hose into the hole that was cut in the polycarbonate, push the vent hose slightly to the left or right to secure the tabs on the hose to the polycarbonate. That will hold the hose in place.
I tried your method but couldn’ t get polycarbonate so I used a piece of wood paneling. The hose is heavy and the Velcro sticky backing comes apart when it gets too warm. What could I do to hold the hose up so it’s not so heavy?

I am planning to do exactlly same!!

Thank you Madison. God bless you too.
Thanks so much this was easy to follow and do
Very well described. Nice view too! Would be a shame to give up that view with a non-transparent panel.
This is a brilliant adaption, thank you!
This was a super helpful video, thank you so much for sharing!
This is absolutely genius!!!!
Fantastic very smart 🤓 👍

The polycarbonate comes in large pieces, and your glass company can cut it to the size you need. Stay cool😉
No. The polycarbonate piece is placed OVER the screen, so the hot air exhausts through the screen. No bugs!

Awesome! How did you attach the hose to the poly?
The hose fitting that lines up with the matching hole in the polycarbonate has notches. Push the fitting into the hole and move it to the left or right to lock it in place.
Wow. I used almost everything about your video
Very helpful. Thank you

doesn’t it leak air around it?
@@pattyadams3364 It does if you forget to open the window 😁 (otherwise, no)
how much did glass company charge u? how much for the polycarbonate?
I was scrolling through the comments to find this out!
Great idea. Thanks for the video.
The exhaust air does not get hot enough to damage the screen. Enjoy the summer!
Great! I just wonder what about the moisture droplets dripping from the hose? Will it stain on the external structure>
That has not been an issue.
How much did it cost for the sheet?
How do you keep the frame of hole in place to attach hose?
The velcro also allows the plastic sheet to flex when it gets hot. Is the adhesive heat resistant?
The Velcro I used has been on for 2 years, and has held very well. The adhesive is impressive.
@@fixerlady8274 - is the window facing north? How hot does it get there?
@@rob4197 we have this system in 3 windows, with 2 facing west and one facing north. We live in NE Minnesota, and temperatures rarely reach 100.
No, you don’t cut a hole in the screen. The air from the vent hose blows THROUGH the screen.
Thank you Pat for sharing, it is a great idea! I wonder what is the thickness of the polycarbonate sheet that you used? Thanks again.
When you bring the template to the glass company, they will choose the right thickness.

Some people have used plexiglass when they couldn’t find polycarbonate. I wouldn’t recommend paneling for any aspect of my solution.
So you cut a hole in the screen?
