Then I was afraid it'd stink because she was new and didn't have time to learn the material. Fortunately, it turned out my fears were completely unfounded. She did a great job at the show I saw, she did a great job here, and she seems to have been doing a great job since she joined the band. They do not need Kim or Paz.
Yep. No offense to Paz but she couldn't really sing. Good bass player though. This will open up the back catalog at shows too. She can handle all the vocals.

I was there too, great sound, great band. I've been lucky enough to see them 3 times with 3 different bassists and they've all been fucking great, still humming Vegas Suite of the new ones..The only reason I went to Victorious tbh 😁

I was lucky enough to see Emma with Band of Skulls at a bluesfest here in Australia a long time ago.Super rad! What a cool surprise because I had completely forgotten about Band of Skulls and how catchy they were. 3 piece, very similar to The Pixies in the way that they get so much sound and musical energy from so few band members. If i had of been full of cash, I would have seen The Pixies when they recently supported Pearl Jam on their tour of Australia. And I would have left after the Pixies set because I find Pearl Jam a tad boring!
I saw them do the Vegas Suite in June, a few months before the album came out. I remember that song. So far, this album is sounding great. Best Pixies album since Doolittle? The new bass player is doing great.
Not impressing me so far. Bit too slow and bland for the usual Pixies sound. Sounds like our Charles has gone back to his Honeycombe country roots. Hope the new album has some uplifting songs too.
She's been out of the band for awhile. Started her own band and everything. They were fairly successful. I'm surprised that no one told you. You should Google her.
In fairness to the three gents isn't it correct that she didn't want to do any new material/albums? To be a nostalgia act as opposed to a full recording and touring band?

¡¿Cómo que te parece que no son Pixies?!. Francis, a cada álbum que editan, le pone su "sello de identidad" musical a cada canción, para diferenciarse una de otra. No son como las bandas de estilo "Dream pop", en que todas sus canciones son igualitas. Y todas esas bandas suenan también igualito. ¡Ah! y la nueva bajista EMMA RICHARDSON, (ex integrante de "Band of Skulls") tiene una hermosa voz. Creo que Paz, fue perdiendo contundencia en la voz y eso lo noté en los conciertos; a mi entender. Aunque ella me agradaba mucho y tiene un gran carisma. Pero así sucede en muchas bandas: salen unos; entran otros.
3 original members is enough for a bands continuity. I don't imagine Kim would particularly have issue with it? You know a band I think that's definitely not the same band? Queens of the stone age, every other member but one changed multiple times.
@@ericritchie6783 Appreciate that perspective. What I struggle with is the notion that Kim was a major creative force in the band. It’s hard for me to imagine the removal of a major creative influence and have them be the same band. That said, I don’t actually think they’re not the Pixies. Not sure I’d listen to an album without Kim. Probably listen to old stuff or The Pod..
@@eggsII Definitely major influence, they're all very creative musicians though. So although yeah it shifts the dynamic to something a bit different it allows for other musicians to contribute in that spot to ongoing work. Kim's iconic for sure though, the Pixies aren't the Pixies without her legacy. Isn't it just that she moved on from it, maybe found the touring and fame a bit too overwhelming and it just wasn't for her anymore? I mean she was a iconic figure in popular music, however she doesn't owe anything or to feel obligated to help uphold the brand legitimacy or something. Like I say I don't imagine she would begrudge the others for maintaining it if it's, better for them.

Let me put it this way: if they’re such amazing creators, why don’t they just start a new band? Because they want to hold onto the cache that Kim helped to (and some might say was primarily responsible for) building. There’s a reason why Steve Albini worked with the Pixies on Surfer Rosa. He stopped working with them but was involved in other Kim Deal projects… None of it matters it’s my hang up. Please enjoy what you like.

It pales completely in comparison to something even from latter day pre breakup Pixies. The singles off of let’s say, Bossanova, Dig For Fire and Velouria spin circles around something like Headache. Let’s be real here.

Sounds so good. Black Francis on the vocals is always 10/10 and wow the new bassist really fits in well and has a sweet voice

Saw them last night at the Victorious Festival in Portsmouth, England. Great performance. Still a fantastic band and, yes, Emma fits in really well.
