    Aww your embarrassing/sad story really touched my heart. I am a very hesitant rider, so “tough love” approaches just make me shut down.
    I was going to ask about how to choose a trainer, but was happy to hear you address it. When I tried researching it online, a lot of the articles are geared towards able bodied children.
    I would love to hear more of the “green flags/red flags” type video when finding an instructor or horse yard.
    Definitely want to check out those exercises too.
    Best of luck with your 10k goal…so so close! 💜

    There’s an old saying - plan for the worst but hope for the best. It is not just about our beloved animals in our lives we should think about - we should also think about the family we want to advise should the worst happen. Most of these plans will never be executed but the peace of mind of having a plan is invaluable!

    My goal for 2022 is to actually get a horse to enjoy with my daughter. Can’t wait to enjoy and love a new fur baby in our family. Enjoying the countryside and beaches together and see what rosettes we can start to add to our collection.

    Before this year I hadn’t ridden in 15 years. Your videos were the first ones I watched on my return to riding and inspired me enough to not only start riding again but now 8 months later have my own horse! As a first time horse parent of a similar age I have found your videos so relatable, particularly your work life balance and the practical implications of having horses in your life, the good and the bad. My goal for 2022 is to grow my bond with my loan horse Monty even further, work on our jumping and to hopefully enter my first ever competition! I can’t undersell how big a help you have been. Honestly, I even learnt to groom and tack up using TH-cam videos and without people like you definitely wouldn’t have the opportunity I have with Monty. I mean you taught me how to put on a martingale haha. It feels silly to say I feel like I know you but your videos have been such a big part of my journey that you feel like an extra friend for advice (plus monty looks a little like Woody haha). I cannot thank you enough and can’t wait to see what 2022 bring for both me and Monty and you and Woody!

    My riding goals for 2022 is to become more confident in my riding, start jumping, and learn more about horse care. I have been keeping keeping track of my progress through notes on my phone, I would love a planner to make it more concrete and physical.
    I have been a subscriber for about a year now I think. I love all your videos, I pick up tips you do in the school and apply them which I have found to be really useful. Thank you for all that you do and share with us 🥰xx

    Its so nice to see you and woody riding again 💞 my main goal for 2022 is to build more of a partnership whith my new horse (first horse) and become more confident when riding as i can be quite a nervous rider and my mare really picks up on it so i need to definitely work on that and when i am more confident hopefully i will be able to take her out places and to shows in the summer. My biggest 2022 goal is to go to my first ever show/arena hire with my first horse! There’s lots of prep, planning and hard work to do this winter but I’m so excited and motivated for it! Watching your channel is also so inspiring! I work full time and have bought my first horse in 2021 so I feel like I can really relate to lots of your content (thank you!) x

    Thanks for addressing the plans you should have in place if (heaven forbid) something happens and you are unable to care for your horse anymore. This is something I've thought about as a horse owner and now feel more empowered to set those plans in place.
    Please keep us posted on your symmetry/balance journey-I'm working on that, too! Especially interested in seeing if you notice a difference with Activate Your Seat video and bungee. Ready to Ride has a lot of free workout videos for equestrians, too.

    Absolutely love how down to earth your videos are - Sadly I'm the only one without a horse amongst my friends and can probably only afford one as an adult. It makes me feel a little better about missing out on things and only see horses at the yard I volunteer at (no riding tho since Livery)
    As well as the fact you show us how to treat an abscess and your initial thoughts and your coaches thank you for your knowledge!

  • @nataliedavies69

    You were very brave in your lesson - it’s so hard to trust our seat and steer without the rein contact you’re used to, especially at canter, on a cold day and with a horse who sometimes notices things outside of the arena ;). Well done Rhi!
    I also hear you on the hard work of balancing our bodies. I’ve been going to the gym 3x a week since the summer, I still don’t love working out and I still wonder why I am finding symmetry, and riding in general so much more challenging than other riders seem to! But, I love my horse and I have this dream that one day I will feel that riding him is almost effortless, and joyful, and fun for both of us. So I’m doing what I think it will take to get there!

    • @RidingWithRhi
      @RidingWithRhi  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thank you for saying that! It looks very easy and relaxed on video but I've worked so hard to feel confident enough to just let the reins go and relax when he's looking here there and everywhere 😂 the biggest challenges come in simple looking packages!
      And I totally hear you. I keep reminding myself of the "valley of despair" from the Dunning-Kruger effect - I just keeping telling myself that my valley is a little longer than I thought

    Hi Rhi. I'm exactly like you. Not as confident as I used to be. I'm getting better, almost ready for jumping soon I'm excited for that.. I think keep doing what you are doing. Important to have a great coach to help you. Woody is beautiful 😍. I'm on a waiting list for a former race horse to rescue. They will match me to the right horse witch I'm waiting for j the mean time having lessons to keep me up to scratch on my riding. I'm looking forward to getting my own xx 😌

    My goal for 2022: really start cracking down with my new horse Bob! He is very new to me and has only been brought over from Ireland very recently. I really want to work on our flat work and my position affecting his movements and how comfortable he is, alongside doing lots of hacking and maybe some beach rides. I love your channel as it really shows all sides of owning your own horse (first time owning) and I love how informative your videos are along side being extremely entertaining and enjoyable to watch! 💞

    The second embarrassing story brought back a lot of memories for me - like you I’m not the most confident rider and I’ve had a fair few lessons where I’ve ended up in tears. Changing instructors made a massive difference, I was able to enjoy riding a lot more again! My goals for 2022 are to progress with my share horse for the few months I have left with her, I’m hoping to get some lessons to work on our flatwork (and my riding as like you I’m a bit wonky!) then find a way to keep riding when I start uni (shouldn’t be too hard as I’m studying vet med so plenty of horses around 🤣)

  • @jomc4265

    My biggest goal for 2022 is to start building a strong partnership with my new horse, whoever they may be (I’m actively looking now!)
    I know it won’t happen overnight and I need to decide what our smaller goals are when we start our journey together. No pressure, step by step, in for the long run ❤️

    Great to see you and Woody riding 😁 and a great lesson. We have our gorgeous dog Gelert. We have put it in our Will if anything sadly happens to me or Patrick, my sister is to have him and we have also put money aside for his insurance, vet's cost etc and most importantly we know she does and will love him like we do ❤ It is I think important for you to know and to have in place the well being of our beloved animals. Loved the vlog 😊 I can't believe you were treated like that from your instructor, that is appalling behaviour but so glad it didn't deter you Rhi ❤

    Good morning 🌄 from Australia. Your channel is interesting because a lot of people are going through the same journey or are planning to. Am old enough to be thinking that by the time my current horse is elderly, I will be too. Still plotting my next horse but with the idea that my son will inherit. It was his idea. So no more fire 🔥 breathing dragons. Sigh... Getting older is great but also sucks.

    How did you gain confidence to canter on a horse?

    • @RidingWithRhi
      @RidingWithRhi  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I started learning to ride when I was 11 (I'm now 28) so I'm coming at it from a slightly different place, but if there's ever something I'm nervous of doing on my own, I wait until I have a lesson with my instructor and then say "hey, I'd really like to try more of X, but I'm a little nervous about Y". Try to identify what it is about cantering that makes you nervous, then use your instructor to help break it down for you.

    • @RidingWithRhi
      @RidingWithRhi  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      🤣🤣 we do have one coach who hates when you click. That said, Woody is voice trained (previous owners) and it really helps him to go off your voice and back up your seat when he's getting a bit stronger or excited 🥰

      @@RidingWithRhi I wish I had the option lol! Both Casp and Dex are voice trained to an extent but does it mean I can use it, hell no haha, classical dressage = no voice commands but ALL in your seat, body energy, breathing and the smallest of leg movements... ie, getting them to do what your asking with the most insignificant ask that no one else would notice or see. 🤦🏼‍♀️ od rather just say Woah and go with that hahaha!!!! But nah I know I'm learning specific stuff. It's hard for both boys too cause they don't get taught this way the rest of the time so they have to adapt also but they're both coping well and rise to the challenge 🤩
